I get that, I just wanted to enjoy some games after 10 hours in the heat/cold. But every game is like this, the tryhards always ruin it for people who just wanna play the game.

Like our local armory guys are grinding 100s of games on talishar a day and treating every armory like it's a tournament. There's gotta be something between tournament try hard and just being a fairly average person that enjoys the game.

matters to whom, is really the question.
WotC's great revelation was that the people who care about balance don't matter. the competitive vets are responsible for almost all of the complaints, but as a group they don't spend 1% of what the casuals and whales do. trying to make a deep well-balanced game is, financially speaking, a total waste of time.

which is why the only games where you actually get that are community-run dedgames, or shit from tiny garage publishers that are small enough to still have players in charge of major decisions.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop minture brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: [YouTube] Kingdom Death: Monster - Prologue (https://youtu.be/FNLc8dHv0Ac) [Embed]

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

NMM looks good only on pictures, but on an actual 3d model it's not nearly as great as you think it is.
It is the best for display miniatures, but when dealing with pieces that you will be moving around and look at from different directions TMM is better more often than not.
Keep in mind that TMM doesn't mean slapping a random metallic color and then do edge highlight, that looks like shit simply because it's poorly done.
A decent TMM is miles better than your average NMM.

It's not mandatory, a lot of painters want to lean into the grimdark aspect and OSL lends well to that. There have been some really good entries to the contests with relatively flat lighting. You will definitely want to get good at glazing though.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.

I'll offer an explanation on Braunstein/BroSR play, hope people here don't mind. I'm not one of them, just an interested observer.

Basically, the BroSR is interested in how to make rpg campaigns more fun and engaging, for the greatest number of people (echo OD&D: "4--50 players") and for the longest time possible.

Their definition of a Braunstein is "multiple independent actors acting in conflict under a fog of war". They claim this is the secret sauce for continued, almost addiction-like player engagement.

RPG campaigns should therefore look to incorporate braunstein dynamics as much as possible. Characters should be acting independently from each other in downtime, while coming together into various cooperating teams/parties each session. But the party is not monolithic; it can change and come into conflict with other parties.

Braunstein elements can be implemented as 1) one-off larp/diplomacy-like sessions where players are assigned roles/characters (not necessarily "session characters") and try to gain as much as possible as that character under a fog of war maintained by the ref, 2) weekly downtime downtime orders submitted to the ref, either as a character or a faction (the latter being "patron play", now out of fashion), or 3) month-long "always-on" events where orders can be submitted whenenver and are processed ASAP by the ref(s). In all cases, the actual RPG rules should be used to resolve conflict, if possible.

Braunstein elements necessitate strict timekeeping linked to the real-world calendar a) to get a handle on what's going on when, b) to make sure the resource of time is being handled fairly (important if players are working at cross-purposes), and c) to make the long-term passage of time predictable for everyone without having to ask the ref every time.

Conversely, it was observed that playing with a 1:1 time rule encourages players to pursue independent goals, making Braunstein interaction likelier.

Will write more if there is interest.
>>
>>96460502
very interested
>>
>>96460502
>>96460515

Thanks Anon, I'll write more.

I left off at 1:1 time. Not misunderstanding this is crucial. 1:1 time means that a session starts on the game day equal to the actual real-world calendar day the session is played in. Characters can still "play into the future" as much as they want, but they will be "locked out" of future sessions until the real-time calendar catches up.

Similarly, if we do a one-day delve this session and come back to town, this grants characters an amount of days of downtime equal to the number of days until next session. So we start seeing how 1:1 time enables longer independent downtime projects that will sometimes come into conflict.

Another advantage of 1:1 time is that all the weird AD&D downtime rules and time penalties actually get used and generate interesting gameplay and situations that can even serve as adventure hooks for the next session.

The third ingredient for BroSR play is an easy and solid system for mass battle resolution, and the encouragement to not be afraid of playing out such battles. I think it's quite clear how something like this arises from high-level Braunstein dynamics with 1:1 time and fog of war. I think posters here already appreciate the advantages of having such a system in place.

Historically, we see either the use of Chainmail, or of 1:10 scaling. The latter is similar to the "brutal scaling" idea within the noob guide, but has a couple of differences. a) the time frame is left unchanged at 1 round = 1 minute, b) HP and damage for 1:10 mass units are averaged, sp that the only random factor is the to-hit roll, c) hero-types are allowed to attack mass units by dividing their damage by 10 (exception: AOE attacks), and take 10 times standard damage from such units.

A lot of stupid fucking faggots have been posting some bullshit about how AI art is "good" and "fine for the hobby". I am here to tell you, no, you are a FAGGOT who will not pour BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS into his game. You know what AI slop is? You coveting the ability of others and compensating by using tools. You are a fool with an automatic drill acting greater than a true carpenter. Continue down your path. One day you will awaken and see yourself in a pit of disingenuous tar. An inescapable muck that you have built into your home, a fitting place for a wretch unwilling to unabashedly display their love for their fellow players in any form.

Anyway, post art from your campaigns. I need to update this, but its mostly my current party. Goblin and the orc died during the end of the last dungeon.

Second season probably provide more value than the 3rd season starter if you like the team, because it also have the refs and the star players, while the 3rd season won't, and probably cost the same, since GW just announce a price hike in October.

I believe the more you stray away from the beer and pretzels "DnD" game with a simple set of adventurers (a martial, a wizard and a rogue) against simples enemies (evil lich, demon king), the less interest it will attract.
While I'm not trying to make a commercial product or have some grandiose fantasy of becoming the next Gygax, if I just wanted to daydream about giant fantasy knights I could do so instead of putting an effort into worldbuilding and a system for playing it. I'd rather make something that would at least catch the attention of my friends.

Yes. Star Wars ships should feel like interwar aircraft with lots of silly features that wouldn't appear in optimized designs (think things like passenger planes with corridors in the wings so the mechanic can reach the engines during flight). You'd still need to answer the question of whether or not the BFF-1 containers are detachable from the drive section. It seems like they should be, but I think X-Wing implied otherwise. I was always unclear about whether the BFF-1 was a properly engineered ship or something a second-tier manufacturer built from recycled parts that ended up being a big success despite that.

Star Wars seriously misses some grim and gritty war vibe. No matter how retarded shit like Dark Empire was, imaging the sheer butchery and carnage that Legends gave us was as kino as it gets. We need more giant fucking battles and a focus on warfare and military.

>You'd still need to answer the question of whether or not the BFF-1 containers are detachable from the drive section. It seems like they should be, but I think X-Wing implied otherwise.
X-wing didn't say anything about it, but the ship is seen with four Type A containers every time it appears. i'd say there is an airlock to climb into the containers for exactly the reasons you mention.
>I was always unclear about whether the BFF-1 was a properly engineered ship or something a second-tier manufacturer built from recycled parts that ended up being a big success despite that.
I decided that this freighter was more like the IRL 'class' of Panamax ships. Built by various shipyards across the galaxy, with varioous reactors, engines, etc., but to a standardized set oof docking ports and dimennsions.
If you get one of those, you will be able to carry 4 containers around, fit into berths of a known size etc.
But you may have wildy different types of reactors, thrusters, navcomps, cockpit layout, etc.

I came up with this because my group wanted to fly in on something inconspicuous to blend in, but ended up on the 'oh no the city is full lof riots and fire' end of the inconspicuously blending in spectrum on the way out.
So they ran up the ramp of 'their' freighter, only to find out that the HowalWorks ship they had flown in on was very different from the Dawon Heavy Industries one they were to leave with.

>undead/robots
>literally human but BIG
>the token furry race unless it's ugly
>orc/dwarf/human toss up, depends on the stats
>maybe a small race for memes
>elves
>DnDslop like Tieflings, Draenei, Genasi, Aassimar ect. where it's just a modern Californian human but with blue or green skin and a short blurb about how they are from the elemental plane of Blorbo and they have zero lore or personality
This is my priority order for deciding on a new character whenever I play an RPG. AMA.

>the token furry race unless it's ugly
Making them ugly is the only based choice. Even better if they are based on some undesireable or lesser known animal. My next game is going to include the ancient race of flying buttock worms who are in war with the Ramisyllis multicaudata folk.

You SAY that, and are then surprised when you get players that are into that shit!

You can always switch species up between games. Next game is about the wonderful world of slaver ants and their slave ant subjects.

I don't think I even agree with the idea of proxies.

If I've got a knight/goblin/troll/giant/skeleton mini it doesn't stop being a knight/goblin/troll/giant/skeleton just because it's not a Games Workshop official knight/goblin/troll/giant/skeleton.

What exactly, do you think lawyers do?
Little is stopping an established lawyer from working 10 hours a week or even less.

I used to go to networking meetings with a local lawyer who was into warhammer and ended up helping one of the big warhammer YouTubers draw up contracts for some big titan he purchased or hired for a video or something. I can't remember the details, it was getting on for 8+ years ago now. That lawyer is now a KC (king's counsel, UK senior lawyer) and posts pictures of his minis on social media. Sure he's not a golden demon winner but he still finds time to hobby.

Hopefully this helps, thoughts on each:
- the dwarf army has plenty of useable units and the minis look fun to paint. Overall it has everything for a decent starter army imo. However it does have 3 cannons which is a bit overkill, if not outright illegal, I can't remember.
- the orc army has 20 crossbows which iirc are not a unit choice in TOW. Then you have 20 spears alongside 20 hand weapons alongside 20 savage orcs. All very similar units, I would have liked to see something else in place of maybe the spears like black orcs or a chariot. I think you might be adding units to your army fairly soon if you buy this box. Also the aesthetics of this box aren't the best imo, especially the trolls which look like they have weird proportions, but I know that's personal preference.
- the goblin box *looks* like a big army but again there's quite a lot of overlap or units that don't map to TOW. You have 20 netters and clubbers, but in TOW netters are just an upgrade to regular night goblins, so you only really need a couple of them to show that the unit has nets. I don't think clubbers are in tow at all, but they're in 4th edition if you're planning on playing older editions. Then the knives and the axes would both count as hand weapons, so although they're 2 separate units in the box they'd be the same battlefield role in TOW. Same for the 10 wolf riders and 10 wolf archers, nobody's going to care if your wolf riders have bows on the model or not, so you have 20 wolf riders which is quite a lot, possibly more than you'll ever take in a battle. Same with 3 wolf chariots. The trolls in this set look like better sculpts then the orc ones.

So if it was up to me, out of these boxes I'd probably get the dwarf one and maybe convert 2 cannons into a bolt thrower and a flame cannon maybe. All 3 boxes are a great price for the amount you get though.
Alternatively you can go on Etsy and find 3d prints of loads of different ranges.

Is 60 sea guard legal? Either way I feel like such a big brick wouldn't be very manoeuvrable, and especially with objectives you might find yourself with too little board control.
For straightforward battles though it does sound like a fun concept.
