Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>96492168You not appreciating how badly you got beaten is pretty sad. Also, you do this thing a lot, where you always try to turn any conversation into a game where you stop actually talking about the topic at hand, and then just laser focus on screaming that whoever you're talking to is actually your boogeyman. Having seen you do this to other people as well as seeing you do this right now, you're basically just trying to force the other person to have to drop the discussion and instead defend against your accusations and to also defend your phantom strawmen, and you actually think people can't catch on to this even though they keep outing you and your tantrums keep disappearing.Whoa, that post actually contains a post that outs you, you even screencapped it, and you still haven't succeeded in reading it yet. I understand you live life with blinders on, but damn son, that's a complete lack of self-awareness.The funniest part is that the proof we have, of you having your screaming matches with literally no one on the other end in the last thread, shows that you have no respect for this board, its rules, its culture, or its people, and yet you expect them to respect you and your increasingly insane claims with no proof beyond you begging people to believe you. But, while that's the funny part, the sad part is that you're still just attacking your phantom. No one is your phantom. Not me, not the other people who've disagreed with you in the past that you've thrown tantrums over, and not the literally absolute no one that you were shrieking at in the last thread. Please, just for a second, actually think about how you've genuinely lost control over yourself. You mention caring about this general, but you were throwing tantrums even entirely unprovoked. You've got someone living in your head. And, now's the part where you ignore everything and begin to shriek at your imaginary enemy because that's a hell of a lot easier for you than facing what's been said.

Thats' it. Either accept them, or there's the door.>Third one seems acceptable, especially considering the others.>Be firm and tell her: next time you do that, you're out.>Same on the last one: if you don't like the group, leave instead of complaining all the time. The problem I see is only 1 (one): you're letting people getting away with it, and they do take advantage of it.>I want to leave them and find other playersWell, you're completely right on this.>I can't play onlineThe last 2 campaigns I've played online were a blast, give it a try.

Why do traditional games seem to attract the most socially undesirable people? Not trolling, I seriously would like to get to the bottom of this. I don't get it, tabletop games are social in nature so why do they attract anti-social weirdos, you expect these types to stay at home and video game. Why are some games MUCH worse that other when it comes to players, ie. Warhammer 40k is worse than historical Wargames, compared MtG to Chess, etc. Is there an explanation for this phenomenon?
>>96491728>Send me back 20 years in time and I have the tools to become an absolute Gigachad. You have them right now, but you won't.I don't know where this idea comes from, that the issue that keeps you from self-actualization is lack of knowledge on some secret to success. You're fat because you're lazy, you don't have friends because you're too socially anxious to talk to people, and you're poor because you're too dumb and/or lazy to get a college degree in a well-compensated field.
>>96486188No idea. Most people I meet who do the hobby I don't really connect with, I tend to play with friends and family.A lot of the guys I have met in the hobby are just too ill mannered for me to ever have in my house for a game. And I would probably not play a game with someone I would not have over. Stinky, weird, too political, impolite, ultra competitive, disrespectful of my property or family, you will not get a second chance. Ever.
>>96490501>Modern Western Society is a bit like Holy Roman Empire.Reminder that Voltaire was a militant Atheist and the gut worm of kings. The existence of a large, strictly Christian territory without any assholes large enough for him to take residence in naturally horrified him.
>>96486188I think if you're a high-functioning nerd, you have a mask on at work etc that's pretty exhausting to maintain. You need to pencil in a certain amount of time with other nerds because the normies will crush you with their banality. A guy at my work ribs me about using a word he didn't know months ago like it's the funniest thing he'd ever experienced. So you have a certain amount of time when you can be yourself and chat about history or Asian horror movies or whatever and while you enjoy the game, you're aware it's a vector for socializing. And then you have low-functioning nerds who are NEETs etc but have realized they have social needs(the more hardcore autists won't get past playing vidya on their own) and want to be around the high-functioning nerds. The autism brain goes all in on Warhammer or whatever and they play extremely competitively because it's probably the one thing they're good at. I think the most successful games are the ones that have allowed these two groups to work in harmony. Like how old 40K tournaments had painting/sportsmanship prizes or how RPGs have a mix of combat and roleplaying/acting.
>>96492809I have a nerdy coworker to shoot the shit about Battletech with at least
What do you guys think are the most useful skills for a player character to have? I'm largely talking about non-class based games here.Obviously it somewhat depends on the premise of the game, but for the most part there's quite a few that are going to be pretty much universally indespensible across every premise and even every historical era.>Movement>Stealth>PerceptionThese three are probably the trifecta of the most important things a player character being might be capable of, at least from my experience with the medium. It pretty much single handedly allows them to dictate the terms of engagement and cheese their way through the most difficult scenarios. But then again if you really think about it, it's not like humanity in real life is the fastest, sneakiest, or the most perceptive, and yet they're still the most powerful species on the planet. So what exactly is it that brought them to this point, and is it even relevant in the context of a TTRPG?
Glad people are finally waking up to the fact that crafting is the epitome of HFY.>MovementUse a vehicle>SteatlhMake a ghillie suit.>PerceptionSet a trap.

>>96483671>>96479241I quite enjoy crafting subsystems, and luckly so do my players.Currently we're playing in a campaign settign similar to warhammer fantasy (but not as grimdark) and one of the players is playing a dwarven engineer. He's used the inventing rules to make an automated turret and is going to try to make a monster hunter style switch axe next.He also makes all the potions that keep everyone alive now that the healer got a bad case of "crushed to death by a hill giant" and the healer player just made a slayer instead of another cleric.

Let me ask a tangential question. Out of all non-combat, non-stealth skills, which one gives for better/funnier gameplay? Musician is probably one of the best: You can put it to use in taverns, campfires, in the court of a king or seducing an NPC (Even if it's not useful, You can always try and fail like annoying bards irl)Stonemasonry OTOH is only useful in the most obscure and boring of the situations
Back when I lived in Tennessee I remember seeing ads for this every now an then, was it actually any good?
My wife and I have two shoeboxes where we keep our assembled ships, though some are worse for wear. It was a relatively simple wargame that we probably played wrong, but we had fun with it, and liked the little boats enough to hold onto them over 20 years. Really liked my Spanish fleet.I recall Rocketmen like the other anon mentioned, and I think there was a Star Wars game that had a similar "pop out and build" element, but worked by very different rules. I only ever had like one or two boosters for either of those, and nothing I particularly liked.
>>96486399I loved this when i was a kid it was awesome
>>96490616>and liked the little boats enough to hold onto them over 20 yearsI still got a few hovering around, too. Turns out that the market for 10-part model ships is criminally under-served.
>>96486399I remember having fun with chaotic multiplayer games. It also helped to just houserule that every ship had a captain for free(let you move and shoot in the same turn). Donated all mine to a thrift store when the Konmari thing got big. I wonder if anyone's made a similar ruleset for a miniatures/board game.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can shape your charges too if you want, so consider that to get that sweet sweet Casaba-Howitzer action (nuclear spears). You need more ingredients than that, but at least those are sometimes called H-bombs so you have that. Otherwise, use the hydrogen as reaction mass for kinetic weapons.

>>96483821Females have a minimum size they must be in order to successfully give birth or lay eggs (for egg-laying species this is particularly important, since the calcium for the eggshells comes from the female's bones. The larger the female, the larger the bone mass, and more calcium can be leached off without causing osteoporosis). So for males to be bigger you usually need a specific reason for it to be so. Usually it's either that the males compete for mates or have harems of females that they protect (or both at the same time), in which case being bigger provides an advantage. In most species the male is larger, it's for that reason. Though there's some exceptions. A bunch of snakes have males that are larger than females seemingly for no reason (likely just some random evolutionary quirk that has no reason to be selected against because it's not like it's negative affecting them), though usually in those cases the size difference is small.

Palladium Games and Rifts General! /PGaRG/The world is a broken, post-apocalyptic wasteland destroyed by the eruption of inter-dimensional portals, rifts in the fabric of space-time and ley lines which crisscross the world. Demon & alien invaders have poured out of the rifts to destroy human civilization and claim the Earth. Now the wasteland has had 300 years to partially recover, and civilization has returned to the world; but not just human civilization: alien empires, monster kingdoms, lost time travellers, lands of mutants, demonic overlords and wizards have arisen from the ashes, all trying to rebuild the world in their own image!RIFTS! The science fantasy world of post-apoc cyborgs, wizards, dragons, ninjas, giant mecha, super-nazis, robot ninjas, vampires, underwater kingdoms, remnant human supertech civilizations and everything you can imagine all rolled into one setting where interdimensional RIFTS have pierced Earth's fabric and turned it into a playground for aliens and monsters!Plus other Palladium Games about superheroes, zombies, classic fantasy, supernaturals investigation and more. >>96466285Warhammer continues to thrive and mutate. Some of them are bad, others are good. Sometimes you get Astartes, other times you get Femstodes. This is the sign of a healthy franchise, because people are trying things and invested in it.Magic is much worse. It’s cannibalizing other IPs to feed off their popularity. Lord of the Rings having Black Aragorn is masking the true sin which was having Lord of the Rings at all. Being the cloaca from which all franchises can enter is not admirable, it makes you sleazy. The last few attempts at an “original” setting have failed, that cowboy world was pathetic.
