Buddy loaned me his 3e book for a game. Love the whole feel of it. I started with the 5e Black Reach box so it feels like a slice of time in my hands.

Question though, flipping through I saw this glorious bastard (picrel) but it has no description. Is it just an old Chaos Lord or a kitbash? How would I search for him if I even can??

It's supposedly going to be dropping here soon (it was supposed to drop this summer, but apparently they needed more time to cook). I went to their Twitter page, and it only has 120 followers, so I'm feeling a little nervous. Worst case scenario, I can pinch off lore that they've promised to include if they completely butcher the actual game mechanics and shoehorn things into a better system if I have to. I hope I don't.

Anyone familiar with Skydawn games, or are they a "literally who" of the TTG scene?

Unfortunately no. I was slowly playing through everything post-EP3 on my JP account to prepare for NGS but then Sega hit it with a region lock and I was too lazy to do it on the western server. I think they removed the region lock recently (or the wizards that work on the unofficial launcher managed to make it bypass it) so I was thinking about coming back but I fear that I'll find a ghost town there.

don't have those, what I had is white colored primer, so I decided to go over all of them with black to get into the corners and nooks, but I feel like that was an unnecessary step.

I want to make them look similar to the pieces on the bottom left, so planning to do what I did with those.

>>

Usually, there are 3 types of people who primarely respond to those posts.

A) Newbies. Complete and utter newbies to WoD and perhaps even TTRPG. These are the most innocent but also the most annoying, in my opinion. Key word, annoying. But they have the most potential to actually become decent players and perhaps, a ST in the far future.
B) Fuckwards who got chased from groups. They have nowhere else to go and they are looking to fuck up a new group. They are the most dangerous, because it can disturb your plans and if hidden well, the whole game. These are the guys who want every session to focus on them, everyone else is secondary. Some of them also have a tendency to sexually harass girls if they are in the group.
C) Older adults who have limited schedules these days and your game fits perfectly. It happened to me thrice, which is a pattern. They are great.

Turbo newfag here, what am I in for with vampire counts? I want to build them for the sole reason of using a shit ton blood dragons/knights as I love the old white metal sculpts as well as the old zombie dragon mount for characters. I am not too big on the ghouls nor the spirit sub themes and I am only tolerating Skelletons as they are one of the few troop choices available that would look nice with bats and vamps on horses. I know incredible little about lore or army building beyond cliffnotes, I am going in purely on rule of cool.

It depends what edition you want to play, but generally, your going to play a fucked up and evil brettonia. Meaning hyper elite knights and beat stick heroes crashing into blocks of infantry tied up by your lowly canon fodder. if you are going to play the old world, I don't think this edition has the bloodlines from earlier editions, meaning your likely just going to play a standard vampire army. You can still have a cavalry majority force, but it'll be a little awkward since there's no lord abilities that benefit cavalry.

I had the same thing with a retarded Ref running Traveller. I asked if we could buy a bigger air/raft as the example given in the vehicle book wasnt big enough for our needs. He tried to argue that ALL air/rafts are exactly 4 tons throughout the Imperium's 11,000 worlds and there are no variants from the single sample described in the booklet he owned and there never have been any variants at all in it's 5000 years of use. No smaller civilian versions, no trucks, no pressurised versions for use in dangerous atmospheres or environments, just a single open topped flying humvee used by EVERYONE EVERYWHERE. Some refs have no idea how to extrapolate from the examples they are given and get annoyed when the players do.

I have been playing and running Draw Steel's playtest since August of last year, and have since moved on to the release version. I recently ran a brief level 5 game. This is my play report: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Be1a7GJ1gjK7SqYQWZmxA2Tx_nIF6vRcTNqOKuUUQ3g/edit

The full version is above, but to summarize:

• I had four players. One had already played the system a fair bit, and had experience with grid-based tactical games like D&D 4e and ICON. The other three were new, but also had experience with tactical games.

• I set this in the timescape's space-fantasy upper worlds, in a UNISOL-aligned manifold. The story began with a counterattack on the fleet of Lord Syuul, and culminated in delving into the minds of two Space Gods to save a planetary system.

• I kept basic numerical statistics transparent, but enemy traits and abilities opaque.

• Negotiations were received poorly by the players. They felt too rote (uncover, appeal, uncover, appeal, repeat), and it quickly became evident that some PCs should just step back and let the characters with relevant perma-edges (e.g. High Elf Glamor) handle everything.

• Montages had a somewhat better reception, but the players still were not too warm on them. They just do not like 4e-style skill challenges.

• Combat was the most well-received facet of the system. The consensus seemed to be "decent, would definitely play again, but nothing special compared to other grid-based tactical games we have already played."

>The most optimal party maximizes damage output as much as possible. Spare room to lower the enemy's actual damage output like with healing, typically takes second place.
I have literally gave you an example where healing, defending, and repositioning are just as important. And it is a D&D game, and is probably one of the reasons why D&Drones don't like it, because they can't just make a party of unga-bungas.

>maximizing damage output
Damage output is damage output, if you are not dealing damage, your damage output is 0. DPR is how much damage you can cause per round.
You are trying to dissociate the concepts of "rolling to hit" and "rolling for damage" in settings where both of them are inherently tied together. If you find people theorycrafting high DPR builds in systems with roll to hit, they will always consider that to calculate the expected DPR of the character.
You literally gave me an example of a character who does 0 DPR, and another does some DPR, and the guy with higher DPR wins.
From what you described, you simply got more focus on the "roll to hit" part, but it's stil a race to see who gets more damage output.
>>
>>96517338
>I have literally gave you an example
No you didn't, you just said those are good. Saying a thing is true, doesn't make it so.
>because they can't just make a party of unga-bungas.
Alpha striking is one of the most optimal ways to play 4e.

>Damage output is damage output, if you are not dealing damage, your damage output is 0.
Ehh sorta. If you're giving another guy 2x damage though, you are in practice just dealing his damage, so there's a difference between real and technical DPR.

>From what you described, you simply got more focus on the "roll to hit" part
You don't have a "roll to hit" part. You are either in a position to force a hit, risk a hit, or you can't hit. Unlike in what you're familiar with, the defense has a very active role in the homebrew I refer to. This is what I meant by you having very limited experience.

>I wouldn't use it in place of a scene for an area that we're spending multiple minutes in
It probably depends on how significant you consider the area. Normally I use Share Media or just paste an image in chat for transitional areas, like "you're visiting a shop in town". So the players stay on the Town scene, and I just pop up an image of the interior of the shop (or maybe a picture of the shopkeep if they're plot-relevant, so they have a face they can recognize.)

It's probably a side-effect of how much you rely on player tokens; my groups always have a token for their character on the active scene, and use it to track where they are in town/the dungeon/whatever. So for our playstyle, scenes which you wouldn't put your token on just get reduced to a shared image.
>>
How do you fix the Hunter's Mark problem? It's probably too strong without concentration right?
>>
>>96515955
* Remove concentration but still require concentration checks to maintain (since otherwise there's not pressure on their spell slots)
* Make it only allowed to proc once per turn (like Fey Wanderer's Dreadful Strikes feature)

Probably also need to scale the damage like a cantrip or something since making it only proc once causes it to lose a lot of damage (since with multi-attack you're getting it to trigger multiple times).

I think it'd be interesting to change it to "a creature you can see" instead of 90ft range, so that the tracking functionality could come up more often. (Since needing to be within 90ft to put it on a creature means you already had to... be within 90ft of them, i.e., the tracking part is done.) Not sure how that would impact its use in combat though.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.
