Yaya would get Alyona's best side: none of the more criminal things she does happen around Yaya because she wants to preserve her good opinion of her as long as possible.

Suffice it to say she treats the student council a bit better because she has a friend there who overrides her "survival mode" need to conquer territory.

Alyona would be VERY interested in learning about real (or "real") Japanese culture. I get the feeling Yaya would be treated very protectively by Alyona. Anyone who tries to bully her is going to get reprisal.

Most merits are overpriced or niche. Every now and then you get some outliers like Enchanting Voice that feel like must picks for a type of character.
>>
>>96464665
Merits are like most thing in WoD ruleset - extremely poorly balanced. Most are garbage, some are useful, and rare few like Lucky or Eidetic Memory are absolutely busted.
>>
>>96464369
All the crafts in M20 plus all orphans and hollow ones uniting to become the disparates. I'd say that the treatment crafts get over the different editions is a thinly-veiled metaphor for what minorities and niche cultures go through, but the writers probably don't see the irony at all. lol
>>
>>96464665
Hot take. More things should be overpowered. If everything is busted, nothing is.
>>
>>96464593
I think the main problem with the whole Hecate thing is that I can't see Giovanni, a clan of merchants and necromancers that clawed it's way to the top among vampires, actually showing how weak they are these days by allying with their own enemies.
Like, a few years ago they had 20+ million wraiths imprisoned and they were getting ready to cause a nuclear apocalypse.

The only thing even worse in V5 is Lasombra and how nonsensical the whole "joining" Camarilla is. Nevermind the Camarilla's demans.

>>96464665
Most Merit and Flaws aren't worth it but are there to give flavor to your character.

NtA, but I didn't find GURPS to be that scary. I have several sb's in my offline cache (The Prisoner, the Autoduel trilogy, the Cyberpunk trilogy, Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, Lensman) & pair them with GURPS Ultra-Lite to understand some rules notation.
If you don't want to go in whole-game, I find the 'rules-lite' or quick-start rules to be helpful, & the GURPS sourcebooks can stand on their own when it comes to basic lore.
>>
>>96451915
It is great. Works best for short campaigns though, going by the vanilla rules makes characters grow quite strong quickly due to +1 in attributes being a major addition and careers being very broad in skill checks. .
>>

>What this thread is for:
/tg/ gets shit done again and is creating a “Battle Bible” (Ala 2nd edition) for 4th edition Warhammer 40k.
>What this thread isn’t for:
Alternative ideas for what 4th edition could include, such as alternating activations, new unit ports, etc. This is a Stage 4 process and so there's plenty of time for that later on.
Don't engage edition warriors, trolls and rule revisionists. We're trying to keep it tight; mannered and objective focused.

BATTLE PLAN:
Stage 1:Finish revising and formatting the SRD.
Stage 2:Compile all GW official erratas into the SRD.
Stage 3: Condense all the codices into up to date SRD. - pending
Stage 4: Make a Hobby Enthusiast supplement for the SRD.
Stage 4: Make an Optional Rules supplement for the SRD.

>>
>>96458347
I think in addition to the actual problems with the core rules, dislike for 5th gets - justifiably IMO - amplified in groggy circles because it's also the edition that began GW's modern embrace of named characters. They had tried mostly dropping the "opponent's permission" prohibition on specials already, but the community largely continued to enforce it themselves, and 5th was GW saying
>Oh you won't get on board of your own accord? Fine you ungrateful fucks, now all your subfactions fun flavour rules are tied to a specific dude, howdya like dem apples piggies?

We know very little about the box overall. If you're just starting out, the Combat Patrol and/or the KT teams are a good starting point. As a new player, you don't really want or need the terrain as most places you will be playing at will already have terrain and the DW team is not a necron team. It will take a bit for the new stuff to get ported to the codex if you are interested in more than just Kill Team.

Corsairs are probably the easiest of the three, but elf teams are all relatively difficult. Very fragile and reliant on their abilities to keep them ahead of the opponent's activities.
But whichever of them seems coolest to you will work.

>>96460746
If you can get it still, sure. Deathwatch aren't even a bad team to have as an alternative, they are peak "strong statblock without too many abilities to track" so they are decent for beginners.

>>
>>96462926
You can't take both the plasma gunner and plasma pistol on your leader. Most opt for the gunner
Flamer is not great on open boards, maybe better on ITD with lethal, but often left behind since you can only have 3 total gunners/sharpshooter
Enforcer is basically an auto-take for enabling your gunners to shoot twice in a tp
Ogryn is fun but depends in the matchup. You may want 2 troopers instead (group activation krak grenades are mean)

Blooded token/gaze of the gods management is key. Be aware of abilities like your leader that automatically grant those statuses

And you have a ploy that lets you shoot into melee and a serious sam mad bomber guy. Get close to your enemy and abuse them

Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

You are a fool with an automatic drill acting greater than a true carpenter. Continue down your path. One day you will awaken and see yourself in a pit of disingenuous tar. Should every aspiring GM read Appendix N?

>those are reasonable fantasy suggestions
Except that they're not.
Lanier, Weinbaum, and Brackett are all SF authors, and some non-fantasy genres too. Blackwood wrote ghost stories and while ghosts are make believe, Blackwood's stories weren't fantasy genre. Several others on that list wrote fantasy and SF but are best renowned as SF authors in addition to their work in westerns, non-fiction, detective, horror, weird fiction. Gygax at least specifies Conan, sparing you the westerns and boxing stories her wrote (a lot of which are better than all but the best Conan stories).
>>
>>96461612
>Should every aspiring GM read Appendix N?
"Should" is tricky here but I'd say that while a good chunk of that list is worth reading it could stand some significant improvement.

I've actually been spending some time here and there cobbling together a big infographic about what I think is worth reading and/or stealing from for GMs, but organized by genre/relevance and with a focus on foundational elements and tertiary and/or older works. Death in the Silent Places, for example is not only not fantasy but non-fiction and is still a fantastic book for GMs to read.

Count for what? If you're reading for some imaginary stats, you're missing the point. For me the ideal form of book is paper > ebook > audiobook, but each type has its uses. I'm not gonna take more than 1 book when traveling, and audiobooks are great when I'm painting minis, hiking or doing some other physical activity that leaves the other part of my brain to get bored.

Godbound is an RPG I have played and GMed since launch, in 2016. I have played and GMed it a lot. It is one of the games I have played the most, and also the one game I have had the least overall success with, as much as I like it (though not its mechanics).

It seems to be the perfect storm of an RPG wherein everyone at the table is near-guaranteed to have a nigh-irreconcilable vision of what the game is about. I have never, ever seen this in any other tabletop system. From what I see, it is far harder to have a cohesive group in campaign in Godbound than in most other RPGs.

Great freedom, grand scale, demigod PCs: a recipe for different people wanting vastly different things.

At least with, say, a grid-based tactics game, everyone has a roughly similar vision of what they are signing up for. Indeed, grid-based tactics RPGs are where I have found the most success. Besides them, I have had reasonable success with PbtA and cousin-of-PbtA games, because of their greater focus.

I do not like Exalted as a system or a setting anywhere as much, but it has plenty more built-in expectations of what the PCs will actually be doing together.

Godbound stresses, time and time again, that it is for sandboxes. The word "sandbox" appears 25 times in the 243-page core rulebook. This is the most salient passage:

>This is crucial because most Godbound campaigns are sandbox campaigns. The GM has built a setting with a great many conflicts, villains, heroes, sympathetic bystanders, long-standing afflictions, and fabulous rewards to be seized. They've brewed up a starting session to thrust the pantheon into a crisis situation to help you all warm up to the game and the setting. Beyond that, however, the game's progress is your responsibility. Your goals and your choices are going to be the things driving the game, and while the world will doubtless react to your decisions and have its own share of ambitious actors, the heart of the game is about the new world your hero is making.

Thanks for clarifying, what are the pros and cons of the system in your book?
>>
>>96461067
Pros:
+It's based on DnD, including the parts that actually worked well
+It adds some more things to the parts that worked well
Cons:
-It's based on DnD, including the parts that worked like shit
-The quality of the additions is all over the place.

To use an analogy, it's like if a cook whose favorite drink is water and whose favorite food is plain white bread, tried to make a copy of a popular recipe book and expand on parts he felt it was lacking.
The result would be a book that's not gonna be outright bad, it's just very bland.

Careful, anyone who fails to praise ACKS risks being harassed by an angry gamelet sperg.

Thanks for clarifying. If only the creators had picked a better base system.

The thread to talk about Super Heroes/Villains/Spies/Agents/Rogues be it in spandex or not.

Popular Choices for Games:

>Mutants & Masterminds
Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

>Masks (PbtA)
Rules light game with focus on narrative. Less rules reading more making stuff up on the moment. Game is built on the concept of playing as young heroes but you can use it for more mature settings.

What question? He didn't communicate anything.

Beast Boy gets mythical creatures and alien wildlife to hit harder, though that's a little too "random bullshit go" for me, the restriction of real animals breeds innovation

Why wouldn't it be relevant?

Animal Forms is quite strong for its cost, it's nearly as versatile as a narrow Omni Power while only costing two thirds as much, and doesn't have the unique drawbacks of Omni Power. What would prevent it from being relevant at any power level?

In M&M2e, a Variable Power is 8 points per rank, with each rank giving you 5 points to spend more or less however you want. Beast Boy limits that by, 1, being only able to transform into animals, and 2, only ever being green. This turns an 8p/r power into a 6p/r, which is enormously more affordable and only barely less powerful.
