That's the thing with Deviant, though. I like the ghost busting setup and connection to the Underworld that's in Geist more than the "on the run from shadowy organizations" that Deviant has

Tons. stvault has like half a dozen pdfs on it and Zanzibar's (in the op) has a large list too, we also made some in this general before

it's just that like with both canon bloodlines and homebrew in general most of them are shit (or at least only fitting into a specific group's game)

Speed paints: yay or nay?

I ask because Stahly rates them as worse than contrasts.
>>
>>96478410
I don't know who Stahly is but for me it's a yay, I've been using them for almost a year and they get the job done (sometimes two coats are required but that's not always the case).
Pic related is like the first proper set of minis I've painted almost a year ago, with no prior painting knowledge.
Keep in mind that I'm still a total noob when it comes to this hobby and that I don't have much time to dedicate to painting in general, so take my opinion with a grain of salt
>>
>>96478410
And he is retarded for doing so. Contrast is one of the few Citadel paints that is just straight up subpar. Most Citadel stuff is good, not enough to recommend them over stuff that is just as good but cheaper, Contrasts, however, are not good. They are inconsistent in how they handle, some are thing, others thick, most don't cover flat areas well (pretty common with the kind of paint used, however, when your product line of miniatures features a lot of flat panels, you get dinged extra hard here).

Speedpaints? Handle exactly the same. All of them flow the same, pool the same, cover the same, so you don't need different techniques for different paints. Contrasts don't even perform the same in the same shades and it's infuriating. AK is also good from what little I have used of it. Vallejo is too varied in terms of opacity with some areas requiring multiple coats to get a good shade which defeats the purpose, though their intense colors perform well.

All in all, AK and SP are the best choices for knocking out gray hordes that look good but not art competition level.

I find it weird that WotC isn't more willing to ban broken cards in standard, let alone UB cards. If I was making the decisions, I'd point out that Vivi is definitely capable of seeing play in other 60-card formats, let alone commander (clearly its intended home). Banning Vivi likely wouldn't cause the price of the card itself to drop more than $10.
>>
>>96478285
banning vivi would cause the price to go up because nobody plays paper standard and the banning would cause more discussion about how good the card might be in other formats that people do actually play in paper.
>>
>>96478310
This, wotc should already drop the act of standard mattering at all. They could ban all cards in standard and it wouldn't really affect the prices of the cards because no one fucking plays standard anymore. Might as well try to balance it with properly if they want to keep up the charade

Trench Crusade General - /trench/
Weird love Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. They have all been collected here for your convenience:

>>96473909
I've run an LGS for decades and it's more likely that two guys will stand beside each other, holding 40k boxes, and one asks you "how do I find people to play with" so you point at the guy beside him and say "talk to this guy, he likes 40k" then after like 5 minutes of them chatting you say "hey you guys should swap numbers and text each other and setup a game"

You gotta herd cats man, if you sit there reading a book in an LGS chances are nobody will walk up to you and say anything, they'll figure that you're busy reading

It's hard to say what edition this is because of all the LRB editions as well.

Technically, this is the third edition of GW's revamp. But I suspect it's going to just get called 2025 edition, same as most of us called it's predecessor 2020 edition.

Ah well... I was really hoping GW had forgotten about this one and another five years the community could have taken it back again and fixed it. I guess we'll have to see how bad it is when it arrives.

Point buy system, stats go from 1 to 10, but it's a d12 system. Initially you get 9 points to buy Mind Body or Soul (=), then you get double that available for (-) and (+) of every stat. In general terms:
> - : Passive i.e. Passive Mind -> Resisting Intimidation, or Passive Body -> Blocking an attack
> +: Active i.e. Active Mind -> Trying to learn something, or Active Soul -> Throwing a fireball
> =: Neutral or fallback value, for whenever you are not sure if something would be passive of active. It's also used for other calculations in the game
Items and magic have a similar structure, but with type of damage and stuff. Everything was made to be easily created with in seconds, I also have some scripts ready to make it easier.
>How many before it become too many?
Whenever you are unsure of which stat to use, it's already too many imo.
>How few before it is not enough?
If the game feels like a Power Point slide when it comes to calculations then it's probably not enough.

My system was thought for a play by post system but I've also used it in person just fine.
>>
>>96476950
Good idea. I would recommend that skills should involve specific actions pertinent to what the adventurers will be regularly doing rather than comprising a comprehensive list of every conceivable domain of knowledge. Start with a small list of useful skills and add more through play testing.

Maybe so. Or I do as this poster says:>>96473706 and just accept that it's nothing like history and myth, kind of bugged about that though, since one of the strengths of fantasy when it works is you feel like you're experiencing something some what connected to our real past. I cope a bit by knowing that many things are more modern inventions than you think though and still feel "authentic" until you learn about that they actually weren't a thing before, like the modern conception of vampires as nobility was never a thing, even if it feels iconic. In other words the "authenticity" that I think is being channeled by certain authors who I think are informed by history and myth may be more bogus to begin with than I want to admit.

How is my 5.5e divine soul sorcerer looking? Anything obvious I've missed or fucked up? I was thinking about getting shield/bless but don't really want to cut any of the other spells. I like magic missile because my DM regularly has enemy spell casters and it forces a lot of concentration rolls but it could go without too much difficulty. I have a lot of concentration spells but bless is still pretty amazing for a 1st level spell.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

The thread to talk about Super Heroes/Villains/Spies/Agents/Rogues be it in spandex or not.

Popular Choices for Games:

>Mutants & Masterminds
Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

>Masks (PbtA)
Rules light game with focus on narrative. Less rules reading more making stuff up on the moment. Game is built on the concept of playing as young heroes but you can use it for more mature settings.

Okay, but how does Scarecrow, or other mad scientist villains, get the materials and equipment they need, especially if they want to avoid the notice of the heroes and/or law enforcement? Not to mention if they're trying to avoid doing shit like robbing banks in public to avoid attention for something big.

How do drug cartels get their grubby mitts on the guns, lab equipment to cook meth with, and other stuff?
The answer is relatively simple — intermediaries. Everything from gun runners to "doctors without morals".
Any capable villain usually attracts a swarm of various fixers, logistic specialists, and even street gangs.

You're thinking too reductively. Villains don't exist in a vacuum.
Rather, they find or create a niche for themselves within the criminal "ecosystem".
Like any other ecosystem, it needs someone filling every level of it to remain stable.
From street gang plankton, and all the way to the apex predators — the supervillains.

Consider trying out some materials that don't need a lot of tools? PVC foam, modelling compound etc, maybe even consider sculpting?

Mm, that's a good idea anon. I have been spending more time on sketching and painting, but this is probably a good time to actually learn sculpting.

I've been there.
It's a great opportunity to try some new techniques, therefore buy some equipment which you don't already have, so that you don't end up with duplicates when your crates finally arrive.
Another option: Depending on how quick you work, 3 months can give you enough time to complete a project. So, for example, if you only ever made buildings before, now could be the time to make a battlemap.
The materials you'll need for it will be mostly stuff you don't already have and which will be used up for the project.

>What is Shadow of the Demon Lord?:
Shadow of the Demon Lord is a horror-fantasy tabletop adventure game that presents a world standing on the brink of annihilation. In this game, you and your friends play characters charged with fighting back against the spreading evil, whether that involves tracking down potent relics, exploring ancient faerie ruins, journeying into Hell to bargain with the Devil, or battling demons and the cultists who summon them. The system is setting agnostic and has a wide variety of possible details for your own world.

>What is PunkApocalyptic: the RPG?:
Another game using the Demon Lord Engine. Text trimmed for text length constraints.

>What is Shadow of the Weird Wizard?:
It's a high fantasy game running on the Demon Lord Engine. It's similar to SotDL, but without the horror elements and the power levels are higher.

I think the lore is over all better than SotDL. A lot of it is the same broad stroke foundations given the love it took years for it to get in SotDL.

From what I've seen Rob made it so gishes are actually viable. Power increases with your group level instead of paths level so picking a magic path later on isn't a trap anymore.

Gishing in plenty doable with the reworks to Adept in SotDL.

NTA but it's been viable for a lot longer than that, since core it's been viable. Spellbinder is basically all you need on top of Rogue or Priest. What hasn't really been viable is mixing non-Power with Power Paths because of how badly it fucks spell progression. That's something that's been fixed in SotDL.

Why the fuck Schwalb writes basically sotdl adventures for weird wizard? They all have the same tone as DL ones missing only the stuff about no good endings in conclusion.
