>>96602503Yeah that's not surprising. Having more orders is an advantage, there's no arguing against that, but a lot of people like to exaggerate that advantage until it's some sort of unbreakable law that Only 15-Unit Lists Are Worth Building. Actually, a lot of Infinity advice swirling around the internet is like that, inflating small factors into the only thing that matters. "Oh don't take that unit, it has -1 BS compared to a similar unit, and that small difference makes it absolutely useless." "This gun is a trap option, it has two less damage, don't even bother shooting it." "ARM 3? Made of tissue paper, dies to a stiff breeze."Ultimately, a lot of the advice isn't exactly wrong though! Even though a lot of it gets overstated, there are kernels of good advice there: having orders is good, shooty units should shoot good, pick guns that are effective, don't rely on ARM3 units to tank shots, etc. Rather than follow such advice blindly OR discard it wholly, it can be useful to think of it like this: what are you gaining by not taking this advice, or to put it another way, is what you're gaining worth the price you're paying? If you make a 13- or 14-unit list, are you doing this because the units you get to include are worth losing an order or two and this is a conscious decision you've made, or are you just being careless with your listbuilding? Is this gunner's neat gimmick really worth the relative -1 BS to you, or did you just grab it without thinking?
>>96599832In Caledonia i always used between 16 and 18 models, never went beyond 20, even playing 400 points
>>96602503It's more like "if you don't know what you are doing, maximizing orders is usually a good thung to start with". Some guy might start with an action pack and wonder why his 10 guys don't win him games, and in that situation bringing more bodies and orders is the logical first step.
>>96602341This one. F youhttps://youtu.be/qWtjUM8D9c4?feature=shared
But the problem I see with "must have 15 guys" approach is how second group is still limited to 5 orders. Since it's mostly also composed of defensive units (like some remote you park at spot and let it scare off people), someone who would activate at last turn to touch objective or be entirely situational, they don't need much orders anyway. In the end, it's still about main group of 10 people.

>>96606216I made one up in highschool with the concepts of "proper letters" that could only be used at the start of a sentence, a more base tone required to speak it, and the formal language being easier to write but harder to speak and the common language being easy to speak and hard to write. But I wrote it in a notebook and that was over a decade ago. It no longer exists. So whatever the hell they speak in Fantasy.

So I'm kinda curious and would like to try it out. What's the best way to get into FAB? An armory deck featuring a character I like?
>>96605454Armory decks are good entry points and recent ones have been decent with reprints and power. Avoid the Maxx deck because it sucks and the Aurora one was only CC legal for something like 53 days. But the others Jarl-onward are decent starting points. New set has Pleiades armory deck who is like a heavy metal bard. Older ones are hard to find and only Kayo and Dash IO's are worth it from that group. The current store play promo packs are reprinting the cards from those anyway. There is also smash palace which is like mtg's planechase and pretty fun as a small thing. Blitz longboxes for the last couple sets too which can function as tutorial battleboxes and are playable with smash palace though probably not your local armory.

>>96606098Okay, let me rephrase that. I know why the Butcher pisses me off. He's a living embodiment of how progress and the Industrial Revolution were corrupted, with the loss of so much potential. Plus, he would have to have substantial backing to do what he does, as the railroads HAVE to operate with clockwork precision. For a "ghost" car housing a serial killing cannibal to go unnoticed for any length of time, the Butcher would have to have friends (or at least supporters) in high places. Getting rid of him isn't enough - you have to tear down his support network, so that they can't just set up a replacement Butcher.

>>96602292This is just a brain dead response. "[CLASS A] gets a bag of tricks & can also do [CLASS B]'s job very easily""Uh yeah but have you considered [CLASS B] could beg for assistance from [CLASS A]?"Like what the hell kind of logic is that? The simple fix is easy in concept but harder to implement without just rewriting a new edition. Magic Items should be equalivant to spells /spell levels.A fighter gets winged boots, while the wizard gets flying spells, the fighter gets a bag of tricks while the wizard get summoning spells, the difference being that wizard spells are more temporary but interchangeable while magic items are more concrete. How do we prevent a wizard from getting both? Make spells as rare & equivalently expensive as magic items. Do that & everything evens out. While the fighter is seeking a powerful magic sword, the wizard will be seeking out an arcane tome, if he wants magic sword himself then it's gonna cost him. Spells are far too ubiquitous & powerfully niche. They have way too wide a range of effects & abilities. Spells need to be cleaned up & replaced by powerful, meaningful spells that work more with your wizard level than the "spell level" if anything, spell levels need to mostly go away. I'd be okay with some general purpose catagories like "petty magic, lesser spells, Greater spells, legendary spells" or whatever. But getting rid of spell bloat is a must.
>>96605732>"[CLASS A] gets a bag of tricks & can also do [CLASS B]'s job very easily"*for a limited amount of time per day, and then they become a commonerYour solution also sounds incredibly boring. It's literally the "Make every class the same with slightly different fluff" that made early 4e complete garbage.

"[CLASS A] gets a bag of tricks & can also do [CLASS B]'s job very easily">"Uh yeah but have you considered [CLASS B] could beg for assistance from [CLASS A]?"As D&D is a system designed for party interdependency, having gaps that you need another member for is actually worthwhile. The problem isn't that Wizards can do everything without a Fighter, because it's still drastically more slot-economical to deliver a Fighter instead of pure spell answers, it's that the Fighter has almost no ability to contribute outside this and so very easily gets stuck in a rut of repetitive and reactive behavior in anything else.>A fighter gets winged boots, while the wizard gets flying spells, the fighter gets a bag of tricks while the wizard get summoning spells, the difference being that wizard spells are more temporary but interchangeable while magic items are more concrete. How do we prevent a wizard from getting both? Make spells as rare & equivalently expensive as magic items. Do that & everything evens out.No, it just means that the Wizard now has an easy way to get permanent versions of their divergent buffs in exchange for the now-redundant ability to cast it hard, and cripples crafters who'd diagetically supply desired items for more niche strategies to the Fighter as you've inflated the few-time input cost. If you want to make spell access a constraint, you can turn down the freebies, make the Spellcraft check an actual problem, then shift spells out of the core Divine lists into topical Domains confining Clerics and Druids so that taking over the Fighter's role requires they refuse an entire category of other problem-solving.
Continued for running out of space>>96605732>Spells are far too ubiquitous & powerfully niche. They have way too wide a range of effects & abilities. Not a problem if you constrain access to prevent cherry-picking an arsenal of silver bullets from them as is the actual problem. Then you just prune the all-solving hammers and spells you can't fit into the access restrictions.>Spells need to be cleaned up & replaced by powerful, meaningful spells that work more with your wizard level than the "spell level" if anything, spell levels need to mostly go away. The slot economy separating degrees of effect even within one area of problem-solving is pretty fundamental and CL scaling already exists. You'd be better served starting with Psionics and compacting topics into Augmentation of the minimum effect set than overhauling a Vancian baseline.>>96605791>It's literally the "Make every class the same with slightly different fluff" that made early 4e complete garbage. Not quite, there's still fungibility differences of item slots versus spell slots, not that the anon seems to have the slightest clue what that does to the attempted balancing.

I have a vague recollection of the kind of thing you mean.>>96604858You know I don't think there is. in the Painting Space Marines guide that came in a white dwarf there was ultramarines, salamanders, blood angels and space wolves to give an array of schemes. And I've skimmed various blanchitsu articles form the time, some even featuring the crimson fists, but they don't really give much of a guide of any kind. But then the crimson fist scheme is so damn basic, it's like at best: a dark blue, mid blue, and light blue (or could be achieved by mixing from the mid blue), black, white, red, silver, bit of yellow in for the badges (and over white to undercoat for the red given how much of a pain the yellow and red paints were of the time to get bright colours with, not a problem now), and if you want to improve much of any of it get mixing paints because there's not that many to work with in the range in '87.But don't be afraid to go advanced on techniques, use ink washes, or throw in using fineliner pens (especially for that really fine chequerboard) and other mixed media stuff as that's what Blanche would do.

>>96604687Yep I remember it. It was only in the USA White Dwarf, around the middle to end of third I'd say.It was a two-tier game, with a 40k board with as you say, a Macrocannon built into a cliff, which was also shooting at I believe a concurrent Battlefleet Gothic game.I'm British and I only know of it because a friend brought that exact issue back from the USA to our local GW and showed us it.The various languages and regional versions of White Dwarf have had varying independence over the years, everything from their own articles to simply being translated. It would be nice to actually have a proper archive.
