Good players are more important than a good systems. It takes less work to fix a bad system than to fix a bad player.

>>96756998You don't even need good rolls for that, coup de grace has rules. Handle the sentry and the job's done.Hurr durr I will kill several people and then take a nap in their bed while their friends are still alive and well. The fuck is this nonsense. The bit with the guard was genuine sperg shit though, the fuck is wrong with the guy that he can't just say "This is Jeffery, he's another guard, he'll be accompanying you to the captain so you can hand off this bandit and you can collect the standing bounty, hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge."
>>96757073>You don't even need good rolls for thatWrong. The bandits would need to make stealth checks to sneak up on the players, and again after attacking one of them. If there's a sentry their odds of getting the drop on the players enough to just coup de grace them all should be very low (Though far from impossible).>Coup de graceWrong edition.>Hurr durr I will kill several people and then take a nap in their bed while their friends are still alive and well.In fairness of the players, they were dealing with an evidently shit GM who probably encouraged the video game brainrot and didn't give them any means of engaging besides just rolling to hit.The guard thing is pretty weird and unforgivable though, yeah. Why exactly he'd want to transport the one bandit alone and would NOT insist that the PCs just accompany him is beyond me, but the DM was probably just a confrontational twat who made everything the players encountered an obstacle they had to deal with.
>>96750672>We've all had those moments when we do good on a piece and bad on another, but people seem to end up prefering the latter. It's annoying, but eh... you're supposed to do stuff for them. So you adapt. This is basically what happened with this party, most of the time i test the waters with oneshots and mini-campaigns and i found that the stuff I put a lot of effort into, thought everything through, and when I treat my players like responsible adults and give them agency and allow their decisions to have weight, they aren't engaged at all. But when I basically wing it with zero prep, practically baby them and make everything ridiculous and over the top they're all over it.The part about the edgy rogue npcs is definitely just a personal indulgence, since they do roll their eyes whenever it happens, but they do seem to enjoy brutally killing those characters in the same way as you might derive satisfaction from swatting a fly. So I don't see any reason to stop.

Played it all wrong and it was the last scene of session 1. Luckily the players stayed and they forgave me and all, but I remain frustrating and possibly obstinate. Need to take a moment before situations like that and recalibrate. Take my foot of the pedal and let them get away with things sometimes.

What are good collections of short fantasy stories? Or low-stakes fantasy too. I'm tired of long, epic tales always about defeating and evil lord.

I believe the later works get into bigger stakes, but the first couple of collections (the most current versions being Swords and Deviltry and Swords Against Death) are just really solid Sword and Sorcery stories.

Because early on they made clear that they didn't want mass production in Creation because they felt it cheapened Craft and the art of creation (especially of artifacts), without considering Autochthonia, which does still have it. If he was real and played Magic (the card game in the manga started as a Magic parody after all) what would his opinion on the current state of the game be?
>>96751688You have to remember that Kaiba is some kind of in-universe hyper genius. The series becoms about Duel Monsters because of his confrontation with Yugi, but he's also a genius at all games (even video games). In the original series manga, Yugi and Joey go to an arcade and look at some games where the leaderboards are linked nationally, and he basically has all of the high scores. If Kaiba was a real world person playing Magic: the Gathering, he would probably be stomping everyone with high levels of analysis and somehow always having figured out the perfect sideboard. In every format, especially the very expensive ones. Hell, he might have programmed a machine that simulates a billion games just to test hypothetical matchups, and you know the data would be good because he can just look up the deck lists. If he thought that the game was being run into the ground for short-term monetary gain when long-term value is right there (and also so he can maintain his ego about how good he is at this game specifically), he would probably buy Hasbro, make it a less shitty games and toys company, and then rip Magic from Wizards and make it its own subsidiary that he personally oversees.
>>96757053>If he thought that the game was being run into the ground for short-term monetary gain when long-term value is right there (and also so he can maintain his ego about how good he is at this game specifically), he would probably buy Hasbro, make it a less shitty games and toys company, and then rip Magic from Wizards and make it its own subsidiary that he personally oversees. We'll never live in the best timeline.
>>96756764Only four of them are KNOWN to exist. I think the anime goes more explicit and says there were only four ever printed. Remember that Blue-Eyes and Exodias rarity was originally meant to be a riff on the reserved list from MtG. Remember that when the first Magic and Wizards chapter in the manga premiered standard was only a year old and the only eternal format was vintage with legacy still not being a thing until a year later. You have Yugis classmates talking about people in America selling their houses and stuff to buy rare cards to be competitive in that chapter so it’s pretty obvious that Takahashi was aware of how expensive magic could get with the reserve list cards. It’s exaggerated and a bit over the top sure but it’s taking inspiration from real life stuff. The god cards can only have one copy each because the aincent Egyptian religion is the one true religion in the YGO universe and the gods smite down Pegasus attempts at making more than one of each.
>>96756237> evasion and rampage .... but no trample sovl
>>96756787>Though worht noting that cards aren't just paper, but have actual microchips in them, which are read by the duel disks later to project the holograms and know what the cards do.I’m pretty sure that had to be an anime-only thing because as far as I remember that is never established in the manga. Kaiba invents the hologram technology because he’s inspired by the Shadow game Yugi pulls him into in his debut chapter where he uses dark Egyptian magic to make the monsters in the cards real. The hologram tech is just his way of trying to emulate Egyptian magic. Before that everyone just played it like a normal card game.
