I've read Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit before I knew what the hell ttrpgs even were. Same with the original Dragonlance books. He was great, but also admitted that he was riding the dragon and any of his plans failing would lead to complete disaster.
Skill and luck.
>>
>>96910674
Don't. I mean, you obviously can just listen to players plan, as >>96911525 says, and you can also call the session when players do something unexpected and take your time thinking up contingencies meant to counter whatever the players did the villain retroactively had in place all along, but don't. Smart villains are fine, villains who start off knowing more about what's going on than the players are fine, and not mollycoddling your players is great, but if players come up with something unexpected, don't devalue it by having the villain actually expect and prepare for it all along. Just let the villain have elaborate plans and let players be the unexpected element ruining those plans, as God intended.
>>
>>96910674
Aside from just metagaming the PC plans and justifying it by saying the villain had spies, a crystal ball, or is jus that smart, you can also set them up where they're manipulating both sides of a conflict.
Then no matter what happens, it's moving their goals forward in some way, and so they're always able to claim that the PCs did exactly what they wanted them to do.

Would Delay Death and Regenerate be enough to allow me to cut out my own heart and survive?
Found myself in a bit of a jam.
>>
File: file.png (29 KB, 409x40)

>>96911972
Death Delay states "the subject of this powerful spell is unable to die from hit point damage." Cutting out the heart is a bit more than hit point damage.

"A condition or spell that destroys enough of the subject's body so as to not allow raise dead to work, such as a disintegrate effect, still kills the creature," and Raise Dead says "While the spell closes mortal wounds and repairs lethal damage of most kinds, the body of the creature to be raised must be whole. Otherwise, missing parts are still missing when the creature is brought back to life."

So no, you're not Leonid Rogozov. You're gonna have to figure out another plan.
>>
>>96911972
Three big problems i see with your plan
>Timing
Regenerate takes three full rounds to cast, and its effect is instantaneous, so it would need to be cast after already having removed the organ which, depending on how your DM might spin it, is not an easy feat
>RAW
Delay death specifies that it doesn't cover death via ability score damage (extreme CON damage from removing a heart) or death effects (as above, just interpreted differently. think of it like vorpal)
>Luck
Assuming you might not want to make use of the removed heart again, you'd need to grow a completely new one. The spell specifies that yes, it is possible, but it'd take 2d10 rounds, so up to two full minutes.
Delay death, meanwhile, has a duration of 1rnd/CL, which is not ideal given what you are trying to accomplish. Tying back to the first point, in the worst case scenario you'd need to cover 25 rounds with it, but i suppose you could refresh the spell while regeneration is in effect

All this is assuming you're doing the casting and operating yourself, it'd clearly be easier with external help, but you'd still be iffy on the second point. I'd suggest veil of undeath for it, since it turns your CON to -, which has the great benefit of bypassing all fort checks

Not that anon, but Wrestler always seems to be good with a lot of melee classes, especially with the Gymnast Swashbuckler from what I've seen since it synergizes well with it due to getting panache from grappling, repositioning, tripping and shoving. I like the cool abilities and flavor of Kineticists, especially the Wood/Earth mix for defense and healing it provides, but they often feel very limited in what they can multiclass into since the Elemental Blasts don't count as strikes and wouldn't trigger stuff like the Investigator's Attack Stratagem.
>>
>>96911661
ehhh.
Wrestler is pretty great, but I wouldn't call it busted. It's best things (since Whirling Throw was nerfed) is that quick bump in Athletics proficiency and easy access to Combat Grab. It isn't the kind of meta-defying "win more" button the options I listed are. It's on the same tier as Scout, Pistol Phenom, Fireworks Technican, or Acrobat -- an incredible slot-in for your build/statline but there are obviously higher powered picks.
And Kineticist does have great feats, but the +2 to CON prerequisite is the most taxing requirement and the dedication might as well do nothing for most classes. Plus the inability to mesh with other options really handicaps its possible power.

>>96911668
>It really should not be such a hard class to understand or play properly when it's such a basic bitch, common fantasy to be "Guy Who Punches Good (and A Lot)"
It sort of comes down to 2 issues
>"Guy that punches really hard" is kind of a different fantasy compared to "guy with a really cool magic sword"
>Redundancy
The better you make the core punch fantasy, the more you downplay the effectiveness of other traditional martial skills, especially when you introduce actual physicality to weapons (sunder rules/durability, ammo, weight, metals). So it becomes an awkward balancing act of finding ways to amp up punching and other Asian martial arts without making all the other options less valuable. Hence the super weird ki systems everyone makes for them. Hell, some fault can even be pinned towards Cleric/Warpriest/CoDzilla issues, with how it ends up being the "disciple of a martial order" deal.
It doesn't help grognards have a history of getting really uppity when a traditional fantasy game starts getting too weeby, see the longstanding joke of the Book of Weeaboo Fightan Majick.

Getting away from game systems and pieces for a moment, how do you prevent a gamestore from becoming a free childcare service, while still remaining open and amicable with the public?

The case I go back to are the GW Battle Bunkers. The one in Memphis I was familiar with really sold me on the hobby, walking in and seeing 20+ full art, prepped tables and getting to observe games as a youngster was a wonderful experience, but the sheer amount of unattended children and teens was the given as the reason for the closing of the game room (outside of special events, though I believe they're just gone-gone now, correct me if I'm wrong). When I've returned to the Battle Bunker stores recently, they've been sterile, dark, empty, like you walked into a small town's only munition shop. I can't imagine this facilitating the sale of starter boxes or generating referral traffic, though obviously these larger distributor warehouses don't really care about direct sales too too much.

So that brings up your LGS. What staff training, procedures, and store policies can really protect a store from becoming an irresponsible parent drop off, while still protecting these entry-level childhood experiences that attach kids to these hobbies and these open, high quality gaming spaces to responsible players? I don't see many of these these days, they're either holes in the wall with one 4x4 table and two blanchard tables for Magic, or they're really low quality, wide open cheap strip mall joints with rows and rows of folding tables and no quality art pieces, terrain, or table builds. How could this be fixed adequately?

Not that I'm advocating for kids running amok in stores, but there's a real problem with fresh blood not coming into the hobby anymore. Some (reasonably) blame it on prices, but fewer kids being able/willing to spend time at stores within the wider wargaming community must have a part in it too
>>

I know MERP had the best illustrations but what is the most lore-accurate Tolkien TTRPG? Some games make up bullshit especially regarding the magic system.

>Dwarves just Hobbits with beards
>Balrogs as horned Christian devils
>Ents as literal trees
The first three, I get. But could you elaborate on these?
How are most Tolkien-inspired games doing Dwarves wrong?
I mean, sure, the Balrog in LOTR isn't described in tons of details, but imagining them as horned devils doesn't seem too far-fetched?
Aren't Ents described by someone on Saruman's side as looking like a forest that walks?
>>
>>96908504
>How are most Tolkien-inspired games doing Dwarves wrong?
Dwarves were not ever described as being aggressive drunkard Scots for one thing, nor were they just short people with beards. They were hardy, strong, stubborn, but honourable people, designed to survive through the harsh times of the First Age. D&D first began the trend of Dwarves being axe-wielding morons, but the LotR films really cemented them as this slapstick idiot viking midget trope.
>I mean, sure, the Balrog in LOTR isn't described in tons of details, but imagining them as horned devils doesn't seem too far-fetched?
It's too Christian to think of them like that. Tolkien's pretty much only inclusion of his faith was having a single primary God in Eru Iluvatar, but the bulk of divine interaction in Arda was the Valar, which were much closer to a pagan pantheon style of deities than anything Christian, precisely because Tolkien was going for a native British mythology to fill the gap that Arthurian legend (polluted by French and Christian ideologies) awkwardly perched in. It's then fairly obvious to see that Balrogs would be less like Christian demons or devils in aesthetic, and more like fire giants of Norse mythology, since it's clear Tolkien used a lot of Norse mythology already. Less horned goat and more enemies of Asgard.
>Aren't Ents described by someone on Saruman's side as looking like a forest that walks?
That's the Huorns. They were what looked like a moving forest, because they were literally trees that could move. Ents (name derived from Ettin) were always described more as giant humanoids, similar to trolls, but with some traits that resembled trees (Treebeard, for example, had smooth brown arms, a beard that had some slight mossy and twiggy qualities, big feet with seven toes each, and what was likely clothing made of green and grey bark but potentially was his torso skin, though I lean more towards clothes, his arms were bare and not bark-like, neither were his feet).

>>96908867

>Stopped reading right there.
Then you stopped reading after I said "Tolkien's pretty much only inclusion of his faith was having a single primary God in Eru Iluvatar", which then renders your question pointless and dishonest. Tolkien did NOT equate his faith with his wider purpose of creating a true English myth. Which is why he never jumped the shark like his friend CS Lewis did when he included a talking lion version of Jesus, for example.

Sup /tg/. I come here tonight to present you with The Realm of Yolmi.

I first learned about this book years ago while reading the Critonomicon thread on one of the arhives, from this post >>24433917.
>I hate to break this to you, OP but this is not the true RPG hunt.

>The true all consuming RPG hunt, is the hunt for an intact copy of Realm of Yolmi. This fabled book has gained near legendary status as one of the strangest RPGs ever written. As far as I know, there are no scans. When it came out in 1977, the book had a very small circulation and seeing as it was printed literally on printer paper and bound with plastic rings it should come as no small surprise that very few copies have survived.
I chalked it up as a neat little oddity, set an ebay alert, and forgot about it. Just last year a seller with an intact copy posted a listing there, then I shat bricks as I remembered what the hell I was looking at. I managed to be the lucky soul to buy it from him, and then I proceeded to be a piece of shit as I procrastinated fixing my printer and scanning it.

Today I finally took 30 minutes to finally troubleshoot my printer, and then spent the next few hours in between handing out candy digitizing this old tome. Did a page check of the PDF and found pages I was missing, also finding out that the book skips page 32 due to a typo, going straight from page 31 to page 33. Regardless, here is the complete work as a searchable PDF for your amusement and bewilderment. The text may not be entirely accurate due to OCR errors. I'll mirror it on the Internet Archive shortly.

Without repeating my previous 'review' of it and the mechanics: Most of my whinge about WanG holds, but it's also managed to annihilate all the equipment variety in exchange for adding in keywords that you pay extra for, make even basic mooks feel like bullet sponges (I think a basic mook takes three lasgun shots to put down? It's been a bit, can't really remember, sorry), make combat feel almost random at times and somehow make psykers even less useful. Oh, and they need an editor desperately. One who is being paid more than minimum wage and has the authority to make actual changes.

Lightweight, lots of streamlining, no actual character, iffy mechanics, too broad. You don't feel like you're playing a 40k game, you feel like you're playing a reskin of another system.

They're the white scars but awesome-r. FOR SAIM HANN
FOR HONOUR
FOR SAIM HANN
FOR HONOUR

Short version, they have listened to their farseers once: To abandon the empire before the fall. After that they decided that shit was for little girls and the word of a farseer has slightly less weight than redlining your jetbike - fucking awesome, but what if you can go faster instead? They spend their time getting their cocks out to wave at Ulthwe farseers, picking fights with Necrons who are bothering exodites (or bothering literally nobody because fuck the Necrons) and going F A S T. They're sort of like buddhist biker maniacs, actually. Ascendance through wisdom, speed and violence.

Also they seriously can't stop poking Necrons. It was a big thing in.. I'm pretty sure it was one of the ynnari books?

Wild Rider, that's the book. The Ynnari wanted something, and one of the potentates of Saim Hann wanted to fuck the Wych that Yvraine had sent as a diplomat, so naturally the potentate immediately signs up the entire craftworld FOR HONOUR and also seggs.

But basically they're slightly less civilised white scars. Speed freaks and easily amused.

But that wasn't C7, unless I'm completely high? That was Black Industries and FFG.

Are astartes taught diplomacy? They go to so many worlds I wonder if they are taught how to avoid conflict with different human cultures.

Maybe, but probably not. Whiners are around those threads since early spring or something, and you can see them appearing regularly just to stir shit and blame it on someone else. My guess is while someone asked for help, and then he got it for you, one of those whiners decided to start some drama, and blame you for it.

>havent touched bing dall-e in months
>load it up
>worse ui layout than the trash it was
>bad ui layout
>still can't adjust prompt box size
>still no negative prompt box
>still tiny prompt box space to type
>still have limited space for negative and style and other things before putting prompt thus massively restricted limits STILL
>"upgrade" is not that at all.
>going to just assume it's going to keep getting worse and not bother using it again until the most basic bare features are there including above mention things.

It is still DALL-E, there isn't nothing similar to it
