>>96912143It doesn't matter that much, but since you have to pick it's probably better to read the DM one first, since the Player's one was put together by a different Anon who wanted to provide a different point of view. >>96876951>>96901741>>96907507Isn't Mike in his 70's? I assumed he's soft retired and Red was just the last big project he worked on. CDPR wheel him out every so often to ramble on about lore while he leaves R.Tal to his kids.
>>96907018>What are you expecting/hoping for - more premade adventures, more rulebooks or..? I assumed most GMs prefer homebrew adventures. For the love of god, stop with the adventure books. Personally I'd like a rules supplement, something like Xanathar's Guide to Everything or Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Also does anybody know if the NC45 is just a lorebook or if there's going to be any new rules, items etc
>>96911958Don't remind me. I know he'd be against it, but it'd be nice to get an engram of him so his virtual ghost could be consulted. You can kinda do that with LLM training today, but I think he'd have a Dixy Flatline philosophy on being brought back in that capacity. A better option would be some rejuvenation therapy that helps people live longer and gives them a more youthful body, but sadly, I think that tech is about a decade or so away at best.
>>96907018>What are you expecting/hoping for - more premade adventures, more rulebooks or..?Official, proper support for the 2070s, and not another fucking premade adventure. Less filler DLCs, I'd rather have less frequent DLC that is more consistent than a monthly thing that puts undue workload for something that isn't worthwhile. And stop with fucking ELO.RTal is an expert at hitting when the iron is so cold it's starting to rust, the CEMK was announced in November 2022 because Edgerunners (which aired in September) was a massive success so they scrambled for it, releasing in June 2024. The 2077 book hasn't just been getting kicked down the road for years (it's hard to look up when it was announced because the phrase "2070s" shows up for the first time in May 2024 and "2077" constantly comes up because of the game), it was downgraded from being a sourcebook for the period (so presumably rules, gear, vehicles, setting info) to being a campaign set in it as of GenCon this year.I'm sure there are people who play in the 2040s, but most people I see online have been running the 2070s using Red for years, or even the 2020s because they prefer the system to 2020's.
>>96912184At this point I’m positive they will release 2077 sourcebook when Orion takes off to cash in on that sequel hype.

How do I write a villain who is always two steps ahead?
>>96910674Don't. I mean, you obviously can just listen to players plan, as >>96911525 says, and you can also call the session when players do something unexpected and take your time thinking up contingencies meant to counter whatever the players did the villain retroactively had in place all along, but don't. Smart villains are fine, villains who start off knowing more about what's going on than the players are fine, and not mollycoddling your players is great, but if players come up with something unexpected, don't devalue it by having the villain actually expect and prepare for it all along. Just let the villain have elaborate plans and let players be the unexpected element ruining those plans, as God intended.
>>96910674Aside from just metagaming the PC plans and justifying it by saying the villain had spies, a crystal ball, or is jus that smart, you can also set them up where they're manipulating both sides of a conflict. Then no matter what happens, it's moving their goals forward in some way, and so they're always able to claim that the PCs did exactly what they wanted them to do.

I know MERP had the best illustrations but what is the most lore-accurate Tolkien TTRPG? Some games make up bullshit especially regarding the magic system.BTW, post some old school Tolkien illustrations
>>96908867>(polluted by French and Christian ideologies)Stopped reading right there. You know that Tolkien was an outspoken Catholic, right?
>>96905120The Dunedain as depicted in the Last Alliance are pretty book accurate. They're mostly armored in mail, with wings on their helmets.
>>96910275>Stopped reading right there. Then you stopped reading after I said "Tolkien's pretty much only inclusion of his faith was having a single primary God in Eru Iluvatar", which then renders your question pointless and dishonest. Tolkien did NOT equate his faith with his wider purpose of creating a true English myth. Which is why he never jumped the shark like his friend CS Lewis did when he included a talking lion version of Jesus, for example.
>>96908867>Ents (name derived from Ettin) were always described more as giant humanoids, similar to trolls, but with some traits that resembled treesInteresting. I had the chance of reading LOTR before the Jackson movies came out, but for some reason I still pictured them as animated trees. But re-reading about it, yeah, it seems that indeed you are right.Perhaps what got me confused is that they are said to "come to ressemble" the essences of trees they were watching over and "sometimes turn more tree-like with the time".We don't have any illustrations of Ents made by Tolkien himself? Or at least, directly Tolkien-approved?You also mentioned that the weapons and armour shouldn't be medieval, which period would be the best equivalent to late 3rd-Age tech level?
>>96912087>We don't have any illustrations of Ents made by Tolkien himself? Or at least, directly Tolkien-approved?I don't think Tolkien ever illustrated or approved one himself. Personally, this is as close as I could get to something that evokes what Tolkien was most likely going for, which would be his own version of the Green Man figure.>You also mentioned that the weapons and armour shouldn't be medieval, which period would be the best equivalent to late 3rd-Age tech level? It's honestly difficult to determine, as it not only varies between regions of Middle-earth, but also has the added variable of literal magic. The Numenoreans, for example, are supposed to be a stand-in for Atlantis, and they built structures that were clearly supernatural in origin (smooth black walls of Orthanc or the outer wall of Minas Tirith, for example), and made towers that would've made Medieval civilisations marvel. They also had steel, and magical metals like mithril, so it's not exactly that the level of tech is tied to our standard period divisions. After all, it's supposed to be a lost time period before history, which would be in the middle of what we know as the Stone Age but clearly isn't that either. But the Numenorean aesthetic as an example hints at ancient civilisations like the Egyptians or Babylonians, because Tolkien was aiming for an English equivalent. He wasn't trying to transplant the European Medieval period into our history, we already had it, he was trying to create a mythical age that we either never had or have long since lost after countless invasions and occupations. So anything that both provides an English theme but with very obvious hints towards ancient times would work. A suit of armour straight out of the War of the Roses would be inappropriate by comparison.

>>96910694for me, it's the nail elementsee you next month
>>96910823Ok...Well I'm going to tell you straight up, "occult" is not an element, it would be more of a description or category that elements fall under or the means of using soul/spirit/life and flesh/blood and darkness/shadows in a way that is different than divine, or the method in which the "energy" is extracted. How are you even differentiating soul, life, and spirit? You might be able to distinguish life in some way, but soul and spirit are going to be very hard to differentiate in any meaningful way. All of them are the "supernatural" aspect of life, where is the physical "Body" besides blood/flesh (no bone?) or "Anima" aspect?Same with darkness and shadow, unless you are meaning to say darkness takes on malicious properties and shadow is more deceit, stealth, or possibly illusionary. How is steam distinct from, as opposed to combined with, water+heat? Where/what do gasses and mist do if not under the domain of air, with smoke really being carbon particles (usually caused by fire) in the air? Fire and oxidation are really processes, not actually "things". Fire and rust are typically what happens when things are oxidized, fire being it's own element and rust usually being considered either part water or metal element.Idk man. I like elements too, but some of these imo just don't work well.
