I might be retarded but the intent of the Shakkoumon deck having Barrier on both Ankylo BT16 and Angemon BT23 is to break two shields then DNA in Big Shakk for a third strike, right?
>>
>>96910469
You wouldn't typically have two ready to attack before DNA but yeah

>GM runs an encounter specifically designed to curbstomp the players

Is there a right and wrong way to do this or is this inherently a bad idea? I can understand having monsters outside of the PCs' weight class destroying them, but when an encounter is specifically designed to make the PCs look like a chump?

-leave them an escape route that only becomes obvious after a character has eaten shit, but no not actually kill that character, let the party pull them out

-bad guy TPKs the party but doesnt actually kill them. "you wake up in a cell in the dungeon" etc

-if you intend to kill the characters, or at least one character, for story purposes, hint at that beforehand "dont get too attached to this/these characters". killing a players PC in a way they couldnt avoid when they put a lot of time or thought into that character will only get you animosity from players

-make the deaths temporary. the party dies, but now they get to fight their way out of the underworld

those are just a few examples. there are lots of ways to do it, the way not to do it is " hahaha math big, you all die, roll new characters hope you didnt like the ones you were playing too bad git gud" shit like that. you will never lose a group of players faster than pulling some tomb of horrors bullshit on characters the players actually care about.

The only way this is actually a good idea was exactly as depicted in The All Guardsmen Party. You roll and stat up a bunch of expendable shitheads, watch as they get chopped into meat, and the ones that actually survive are the ones (and your backups) who start the REAL campaign.

Don't get attached to your characters and you'll be fine no matter what.

It’s basically pre badab war where legions are only just evolving into their 40K identities so you still have crazy stuff from the heresy like destroyers and mhra gal while mk7, indomidus, and castraferrum dreads just start to become the norm. The codex isn’t out yet and chapters are just starting to form in the background so they could totally do a lot of weird units like proto devastators
>>
You guys honestly think GW in TYYOL 2025 is capable of doing something interesting with the scouring besides just retconning a bunch of stuff and selling you slop?
>>
>>96908154
But it's not a middle ground, you absolute tacticslet. If you have a choice between two approaches both of which will render your opponent's vehicle incapable of hurting you if they succeed, and one is FAR more likely to succeed, you're simply a retard if you choose the less likely option. It's too easy to dump a bunch of status effects on a vehicle and render it - functionally - just as useless as if you had blown it up. Maybe in a system that hadn't culled two of its six turns in order to free up time for a faggy little challenge minigame that was a solved problem before the game even officially launched it could have worked, but in 3.0's 4 turn progressive scoring approach being able to pretty reliably lock down opposing vehicles for several of those turns is ridiculous, especially in comparison with how resilient they are against attempts to actually blow them up with proper AT weapons.

Every word 3.0tards speak convinces me further that all the bleating and moaning about 2.0 was due to the fact you lot were all fed on a steady diet of lead paint and methylated spirits as children.
>>
>>96911578
Everything interesting about the heresy was retconned in to sell you resin slop, what are you on about?

Yea and somehow this is the least fucked up monk, when it's still really fucked up. It really should not be such a hard class to understand or play properly when it's such a basic bitch, common fantasy to be "Guy Who Punches Good (and A Lot)"

Not that anon, but Wrestler always seems to be good with a lot of melee classes, especially with the Gymnast Swashbuckler from what I've seen since it synergizes well with it due to getting panache from grappling, repositioning, tripping and shoving. I like the cool abilities and flavor of Kineticists, especially the Wood/Earth mix for defense and healing it provides, but they often feel very limited in what they can multiclass into since the Elemental Blasts don't count as strikes and wouldn't trigger stuff like the Investigator's Attack Stratagem.
>>
>>96911661
ehhh.
Wrestler is pretty great, but I wouldn't call it busted. It's best things (since Whirling Throw was nerfed) is that quick bump in Athletics proficiency and easy access to Combat Grab. It isn't the kind of meta-defying "win more" button the options I listed are. It's on the same tier as Scout, Pistol Phenom, Fireworks Technican, or Acrobat -- an incredible slot-in for your build/statline but there are obviously higher powered picks.
And Kineticist does have great feats, but the +2 to CON prerequisite is the most taxing requirement and the dedication might as well do nothing for most classes. Plus the inability to mesh with other options really handicaps its possible power.

>>96911668
>It really should not be such a hard class to understand or play properly when it's such a basic bitch, common fantasy to be "Guy Who Punches Good (and A Lot)"
It sort of comes down to 2 issues
>"Guy that punches really hard" is kind of a different fantasy compared to "guy with a really cool magic sword"
>Redundancy
The better you make the core punch fantasy, the more you downplay the effectiveness of other traditional martial skills, especially when you introduce actual physicality to weapons (sunder rules/durability, ammo, weight, metals). So it becomes an awkward balancing act of finding ways to amp up punching and other Asian martial arts without making all the other options less valuable. Hence the super weird ki systems everyone makes for them. Hell, some fault can even be pinned towards Cleric/Warpriest/CoDzilla issues, with how it ends up being the "disciple of a martial order" deal.
It doesn't help grognards have a history of getting really uppity when a traditional fantasy game starts getting too weeby, see the longstanding joke of the Book of Weeaboo Fightan Majick.

The problem is that it's functionally unenforceable. If you ask them "Will you counter me?"
They say "yes" and you throw out a bait spell. Then they do nothing and say they didn't have a counterspell. Then you play your big bomb and they cantrip, then counterspell.

>I am still watching events transpire via my magic orb from the safety of my chambers, but now Daxia is done giving me a tongue bath and is just serving me as a foot stool instead
>After two hours of watching invaders get tortured and tormented by the trap filled maze layer in hilarious and drawn out manners, the big showdowns between the leader of the invaders and my half-brother and a brief time later, the leader of the invaders versus the leader of the Coyotes were both pretty anti-climatic
>I should probably help my brother in some way, but I don’t really feel like it. Also this is either some sort of trap the other vampires convinced by brother to go along with, or he is actually gotten even stupider somehow
>Too bad about the Coyote leader being kicked in the groin, I was hoping to “sample his wares” so to speak, luckily the succubi cultists have a large stockpile of potions that both heal, and increase lust and pleasure, I send a succubus up to both offer him a couple of said potions, as well as offer to show him to the quarters I set aside for them, as the Coyotes seem to have enough of fighting for now and are now withdrawing
>Meanwhile Willy seems to be trying to flood the trap filled maze layer
>Good luck with that, despite frequently being called a “dungeon”, the main floor of the maze lair is actually the ground level of the castle, since the whole point is to trick invaders into thinking they have breached the castle at a location they can easily swarm into. Parts of the maze level extend a few floors above ground, and a few floors below ground, but even the deepest portions of the maze level have small tunnels leading outdoors to the ridge that will drain away water, at best he will be able to partially flood a few sections of the maze lair that don’t have drainage
>>
>>96911798
>There aren’t many invaders left at this point, and they have managed to set off most the traps of the maze layer at least once
>Some of the invaders have managed to break out of the trap filled maze layer
>It won’t do them much good. There is nothing important on the upper levels of the castle other than barracks for mercenaries and low ranking cultists, courtyard shrines to the Evil Storm God and the God of the Bloody Hunt, and the “bone zone” cluster of buildings where Pierre the Lich lives with his skeleton army. Going downwards leads to the main lairs of the vampires, Succubus Queen Cult, Eldritch Horror Cult, Vecna Cult, and Evil Trickster Clown God Cult, none of whom trust each other, so their lairs have nearly as many traps as the maze lair
>Meanwhile on the outside, the Coyotes, succubi, and dwarf cultists have managed to disable the siege tank, and are close to taking it if they haven’t already done so. I will have to throw in a hefty bonus to the Coyotes, and a few personal favors to the Succubus Queen cult if they capture that thing intact enough to get it working again
>Also the King’s Royal Ambassador has arrived
>The King is a man of rather evil disposition, and from what I have heard he already has several evil factions whispering in his ear. I have been meaning to make some improvements to my spy network as well as forge some alliances with other evil or neutral factions, and bringing the Royal Ambassador under my sway seems like the perfect opportunity
>I have also heard that most of the King’s Court is still made up of the usual self-righteous normies who have found ways to justify serving evil to themselves, but still sometimes object to blatantly evil behavior like demon worship and necromancy, so I will have to handle this carefully
>>
>>96911805
>By carefully I just mean getting his defenses down with bribes of gold, sex, knowledge, magic, whatever floats his boat, and then trying to get my hooks into him with blackmail, offers of additional bribes, geas, replace him with a doppelganger, whatever works
>I send a disguised succubus up to greet him, spin some tale about a land dispute with a neighboring lord, and claim both sides have been using undead and monsters as fodder for quite some time now, which is not uncommon in the borderlands. Also the succubus is to assess options for swaying, corrupting, or replacing the Ambassador.

And the best part is that I, the one that trolled him into leaving, am part of his "secret" club of sycophants. Pulling numbers out of my ass based on what I talked with others, but I wouldn't be surprised if half the people there only see him as a means to an end and can't stand him, but have to feed his huge paranoid ego. If you think The Guild was bad, you have no idea how bad it can get...

Mage isn't as prolific as he was when he was openly active here. He's still doing work, but nothing as impressive. Half of his files are things that were cleaned years ago. I think he's seriously into data hoarding.

And you'd be glad not to have him openly active here. The way he speaks about this place and his sperging out sessions are cringe and barely sufferable.

You guys are lucky there are some nice people that share the things he cleanes, including other cleaners that maintain business level relationships with him. Best of both worlds: you get the files and the gibmedats get frustrated and leave this place.

Cheers!

I need an idea for what (non magical) class would best embody a childish or autistic character
example:
a homebody type personality who is not retarded or unintelligent but is ‘simple’ and while fully capable, prefers childish hobbies
My idea is either a non-flashy swashbuckler or prankster type Rogue who enjoys simple childish pranks and is able to weaponize that spirit just enough to become an adventurer
>>

a tardo personality has nothing to do with any of that and anything could apply to such a person.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. They have all been collected here for your convenience:

She looks pretty cool, normally black women in sci fi look super out of place and kind of weird. She actually looks like a character and the milky, dead eye and tatoo are tasteful details without being over done. Much better than GW's black women who all look like 65 year uggo momma of 15.

picrel is official art of a GW SoB character and I think TCs strong independent black woman looks much better. maybe its because british artists literally cant draw brown people?

I don't care, I never bought a single miniature for a wargame before.
>TC official only! (for what?)
I don't care, no one's coming to my house and forcing me to do anything.
>They're gonna start selling printed rules!
I don't care, I've never bought a wargames rulebook either.
>They said X and now are doing Y
I don't care. It doesn't affect me or my group.

Sup /tg/. I come here tonight to present you with The Realm of Yolmi.

I first learned about this book years ago while reading the Critonomicon thread on one of the arhives, from this post >>24433917.
>I hate to break this to you, OP but this is not the true RPG hunt.

>The true all consuming RPG hunt, is the hunt for an intact copy of Realm of Yolmi. This fabled book has gained near legendary status as one of the strangest RPGs ever written. As far as I know, there are no scans. When it came out in 1977, the book had a very small circulation and seeing as it was printed literally on printer paper and bound with plastic rings it should come as no small surprise that very few copies have survived.
I chalked it up as a neat little oddity, set an ebay alert, and forgot about it. Just last year a seller with an intact copy posted a listing there, then I shat bricks as I remembered what the hell I was looking at. I managed to be the lucky soul to buy it from him, and then I proceeded to be a piece of shit as I procrastinated fixing my printer and scanning it.

Today I finally took 30 minutes to finally troubleshoot my printer, and then spent the next few hours in between handing out candy digitizing this old tome. Did a page check of the PDF and found pages I was missing, also finding out that the book skips page 32 due to a typo, going straight from page 31 to page 33. Regardless, here is the complete work as a searchable PDF for your amusement and bewilderment. The text may not be entirely accurate due to OCR errors. I'll mirror it on the Internet Archive shortly.

Whoa, I feel like it's even rarer to see the 2nd edition. Is this your copy?

There's so much soul in these illustrations, even if by today's standards they'd probably be considered amateurish.

So I recently got roped into running a Stargate RPG for my group. We decided to go with the 2003 version as opposed to the modern Phoenix Base version with the !NotNox who are fine with killing people.

Sadly this system was killed off with a splatbook finished but unpublished. So I'm taking a wild swing here, but does anyone here happen to have the Season 3 Splatbook? There are also a number of fanworks (maps, tools, etc) that I found via the waybackmachine, but a lot of the homebrew and even errata seems totally lost to me. From the dead ruins of the Alderac forums, it seems people had even made a map of the entire Cheyenne Mountain complex.

So, /tg/, do you have any old Stargate RPG materials to share? Any campaign stories or house rules or pieces of advice? Should my group just switch to the new version? And does anyone have any ideas for Goa'uld vehicles? One of the cancelled games apparently had a hover tank but thats all I can find.

>They need to be nerfed somehow for there to be any tension.
As much as I love Stargate, it is not Star Trek. The writers were not chiefly concerned with creating a cohesive and sensible world, they were concerned with making exciting adventures of the week. Stargate is pulp. That's a quality, but it also means you just got to shut off your analytical brain at times, because otherwise you'll be overloaded with "Why don't they just-"s.

I would hope they would make sense, especially if it's something like the Asgard who are couched in reason and logic. Not as unemotional as Vulcans, but close. For instance the episode showcasing that a major flaw they have is that they needed something with dumb enough ideas to help them defeat the Replicators. Someone thinking outside the box, adding in an X factor the Replicators don't have any experience with. Do something crazy and catch the enemy off guard. Also the fact that they just aren't as martial as the humans. We're still primitive and brutish, and that was a plus against the Replicators. Can you imagine an Asgard running around with a .50 cal? They seem to think of weapons as tools, and can make damn effective ones, but just don't have the same killer instinct as relatively primitive humans.

Plus I LOVE that one of the themes in Stargate is that the older races are like failed parents. They had their day, and while they did great things, they have become too set in their ways. It is time to make way for "children" to come into their own.

Mind you nitpicking scifi is nothing new. It's a storied pasttime of nerds everywhere, especially Trekkies. >>96911034 says as much, but I still have a huge affection for Stargate's world building. One of the reasons I hated hearing they were planning to reboot based on the first film and abandon the series completely. I think they need to realize if you're going to push the resurgence of a nostalgia franchise, there are probably more fans of the series than the film, and they'd be screwing them over.

>>96911034
I agree. So that's why you make the Asgard a race on decline who can't just clone themselves over and over without any downsides. If they could, the anon who thinks it doesn't make sense that the Asgard can't just perfectly clone themselves in perpetuity would have some other "why don't they just" complaint instead of "why don't they just have a crystal of THOR MASTER FILE."

It's perfectly fine with me too, and it doesn't work if they Asgard aren't in decline because of their cloning problem. If they can surmount that, or never have it in the first place because they're master cloners.

I think there were other reasons they could have been in decline instead of just sucking at one of their primary attributes, being a clone species adept at cloning. Still there is little reason in beating ones head over something that's already been done.

Another example of something that bugs me is from season 2 of Atlantis. Both the SGC and the Atlantis Expedition are keenly aware that the Wraith have their own teleportation tech they use for mass abductions. The SGC also has experience remote operating railguns. I mean it's not like they have crews shooting them manually on their space battleships, right? The battle for Atlantis really could have benefited from them not clumping soldiers around railgun positions for the Wraith to pick off and instead invested in a long cord and a laptop to act as a remote fire control. Keep fire teams nearby, preferably under the cover of buildings, to defend railguns if the Wraith try to beam troops around them. But fine, they were pressed for time, and doing their best. It is what it is. No point making a bigger case out of it.

That said the one episode I hate the worst was the first episode with the supergate. They dumbed down ALL the main characters. Carter never should have taken so long to realize the direct correlation to them dumping energy into the Ori shield and it expanding.

Ancients are the epitome of DnD super high INT, dumpster WIS. They weren't that good even at making weapons either, Asgard trump them there, remember the Ancient's big ultra killer drones are just that: drones. Yeah they phase through stuff, but they're effectively an engine, a communications link to a nearby control chair, a phase shifter (even Tollan had that), and a bomb.
