Ever been called out for your shitty worldbuilding?
>>97825684>Here's how an actual game would workoh shit there I go forgetting that I'm actually a nogames and the fact we're playing like this doesn't countIt's improv; the classic "yes, and..." rule. Why are they asking about a blacksmith? Is it because the party just found a McGuffin in the dungeon and are hoping an NPC could tell them what it is, or give them a lead to investigate it? Maybe the DM expected them to look for someone to cast Identify on it and was planning to introduce the College of Mages this session; and when the players take a more mundane route, they get to introduce a new character and new elements to the story.Perhaps the blacksmith was forging the exploding-sword on behalf of a mage of the College - was he set up? Does the blacksmith recoil when they present the McGuffin, shouting "Get that Mage-wrought curse out of my shop!" and throw the half-worked molten ingot at them? The point isn't "holy shit this blacksmith is now the #1 most important NPC in the game"; they're just some irrelevant bozo that the DM could have made up on-the-fly, but instead decided to let the player contribute to the world. If the players latch onto this random NPC for whatever reason, the DM can always say "let's come back to this later once I've had a chance to work on him".I'm not even the DM for the group right now, so attacking me personally isn't super convincing.

That's just railroading with extra steps. .

Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. In fact, even Avatar is human exceptionalist wank, as it requires the world's dumbest marine to play white savior to these dipshit savages who can't even think of simple tactics like "attack the big chosen one dragon from above".The biggest irony in all this is the humanity portrayed in 90% of HFY is the most misanthropic, anti-human take on our species. Pigheaded Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. >>97821296The game itself is just kind of mediocre. The blood dice are a nice enough mechanic, but the resolution mechanics around them are just so-so. Basic bitch alternating activation was also a poor choice when you're obligated to gun for maximum warband size as the campaign progresses. 40+ individual activations per round was just a slog in what should have been the most exciting games of the campaign.
How important is artwork and visual aesthetics to a tabletop game?
Important for drawing in people, not as important for player retention but still a relevant factor. Specific aesthetics can draw and repel potential players, but the art is irrelevant if your gameplay is boring/bad. This applies to myriads of other fields/businesses too in regards to logos and advertising.
Autistic rollplayers will seethe nonstop, but the cover art is the first thing you see of any system that's not a word document. (and even then, it might have a cover art)Art does a lot to set the tone, along with the way fluff is written.
>>9783158550% off a rulebook should be artwork if you want a good system
>>97831635>not as important for player retentionTrue, in that the rules and playstyle have to be consistent with the art that drew players in. Otherwise you end up with a supposedly grim post apocalyptic world and you end up with modern fallout.

Decide how many background points he wants you to spend on the suit/mech and how many inactive perks it has and what each of those perks does. That's how I'd handle it, at least.A lot of the time, the suit wouldn't be anything other than a bunch of soak and probably some Dexterity penalties, but you could use it as a focus for a lot of your magic and the target of a lot of your magic as well.Though I wouldn't copy and paste it for your character, reading about the Alanson Hardsuit on page 656 of the M20 core might give you some good ideas.
>>97831577there is a lot more those are just some examples like i know the shadowlords have a camp that deals (in both meanings of the word) with vampires so they probably know more, but in turn they probably know jack shit about mages and never heard about mummies for examplein game this was somewhat enforced rules wise in 2 to 3ed/revsied by the fact that "kindred lore", "wraith lore" "werewolf lore", "mage lore" and such which represent your knowledge of another splat all costed exp like any normal knowledge ability so every exp your let's say mage spends on vampire lore is some exp they does not spend on another skill or sphere that would help him deal with his splat's usual enemies so when vampires are not currently the focus he is would be seen as falling behind while wod's 20th anni editions use the scholar of other merit that makes you better at rolling in all non combat involving the "other" of your choosing by reducing the difficulty by 2 but makes the same rolls about your usual adversaries and all other splats harder by 1

>>97829989>How do you paint eyesA long fine tip brush WITH a nice belly so it can actually hold some fucking moisture and doesn't just dry out instantly. Then most importantly: a drop of retarder medium mixed with the paint. This stops it from drying too fast and gives you some time to actually work.I load up my brush, test how it's flowing / dotting on my thumbnail, then I just go for it. Brush stroke starts from the inside of the eye then to the outside, then flip the model upside down and do the other eye with the same movement. Then come back in with the skin tone to touch up any mistakes.Drop some paint on my wet palette > Dilute it > Retard it > Load brush > Test on thumb > Make Adjustments > Test again > Deep breath and just fucking do it.Dotting the eyes is exactly the same procedure except it's a quick dab instead of a horizontal movement. I don't usually dot the eyes. I personally prefer the look of just painting the eye whites.

Gearhead thread but for /tg/Part of why I like to play ttrpg's is the analog aspect. I prefer to keep all digital things out of the experience. No laptops, ipads, phones at the table. Well, an exception can be made for googling something quick, but other than that, keep that shit in your pocket.I like to do my gm prep, world building, drawing maps, in notebooks. npc and character sheets etc.on paper.I really like MUJI stationery. Their notebooks are really nice, and their pens and pencils are amazing.I recently found some hex paper notebooks on amazon. That was really nice to use to draw some hex maps.Do you have any neat stationery or other analog "gear" that you really like? Could you share some of your cool items or showcase your note taking system or maps or whatever?
>>97809050I have come to preach the gospel of postcard paper! You can buy a hundred of them for some change. They're slightly thicker and less floppy than regular paper, and of a manageable size.I use whole-size for player abilities, half-sized for equipment, and quarter size for items and consumables.Players can just lay out everything they have at their disposal, flip equipment upside down when it's stowed, and toss consumables onto the table when they want to use them. They also make for good rooms in a point-crawl dungeon, and notes for dungeon specific information, which can all be stored together in a punched punched pocket.
>>97830938>I still keep a MS Surface behind the screen to quickly look up rules though...There's nothing wrong w/ doing both. >>97831001>Index Card RPG intensifies
I have nothing to add to the discussion, merely enjoying the pics. I do have some personal observations from playing several sessions of paper-only Ironsworn. >I don't usually go back to read notes/journals of previous sessions even when playing digitally. Having both in physical papers didn't change that. >If anything, re-reading past sessions didn't feel that great since it looked like a bunch of notes (am i back in college??) >I'm not an artist, so the notes and journals are kinda bland to glance at too. A minimal level of artistry might be required for all-paper play, at least for me. >my handwriting is decent, but not being able to search my notes felt incredibly limiting >Persistent frustration and annoyance from not being able to write down imaginations and thoughts quickly to paper in detail - either had to sacrifice time to write detailed account by hand or sacrifice detail by summarizing what I envisioned. >keeping a different binder for re-orderable set of notes on worldbuilding elements became a necessity, but it added to the physical clutter (MORE binders, sire?) In the end, I abandoned the paper-only play. I REALLY want it to work for me but it just isn't clicking. I believe my main hurdles were from not knowing how to draw, which impacted my desire to read my old sessions even when played outside the papers-only medium.
