>>97223491>Psychic powers are impossible, laws of physicsThat is quite literally the point of their existence in the CYOA. Psychic powers in the CYOA are Mind > Matter which is why they caused a wide disruption in the world, society has psychics as the forefront of humanity, and other strange phenomena that can only be controlled by them. The human mind violated conventional physics by imposing thoughts and will on the world, this is why you can have a fire that is cold as sub-zero ice happen with Psychic powers It also because of this that super science is dominant in the CYOA world because psychics allow for new studies and inventions that could not traditionally come about.Additionally the CYOA is fictional science.

The trolling was filled with spelling mistakes that I never make and regardless the whole thing was very obviously screaming "I am the villain", because whoever it was was too stupid to be subtle about it. This is exactly what I mean when I call you liars and gaslighters. Because that's exactly what you are. When you're not circlejerking and posting low quality gens you're pulling shit like this. Has it ever occurred to you maybe that's why there's blowback?

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies. These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence. This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.(Continued.)
>>97221178Indeed, this degree of nuance is one of the major reasons why DTR is such a resounding success, while aforementioned BTP, which plays at nuance by never really committing to anything (i.e. many beasts say they exist to teach humanity lessons through nightmares, but in practice this is mostly just an excuse to justify their innately harmful existences) as a means of trying to cover up how incredibly shallow it actually is, sucks its own ass so hard it turns inside out.
>>97221178>>97221242Yet another point of nuance.Even in the best-case scenario of Renegades fighting some super-duper evil conspiracy, there are still so many innocent dupes and catspaws in the way. Let us take Standing 3 Corvalis Chemicals, for example, a stereotypically evil chemical company. Most of the people working there are simply wage slaves. They may be dimly aware that they are working for some "evil" corporation, but then, what huge corporations are not? Do these people really deserve to die when a bunch of Renegades storm a conspiracy Node with grenades, Storm Caller, and other devastating AoE attacks? This is precisely the point of Deep Dive's Kindly Ones, a Standing 7 conspiracy. They are dedicated to taking down the rest of the Web of Pain. Some are moderates, and some even try to eliminate evil conspiracies peacefully. The rest of the Kindly Ones are extremists who absolutely do not care about collateral damage, and think nothing of blowing up Nodes and everyone inside them.
>>97220998>>97221065Interesting write up anons, thank you. I'll probably still play oWoD but I'll be checking out Deviant on the side for some content Since I'm perma ST
>>97221483Deviant is CofD sadly...
>>97221143Does it have any alternative to the whole touchstone system? Because to me it feels a bit limiting that the only possible motivations you're allowed to have in the game is hating some specific guy, and "protecting your friends".

>>97222635>>97223267Cool, thanks. I just finished reading the player core, and was thinking about which adventure path to run for my group, and was hoping early 2e like Abomination Vault was still cool, but now I just feel bad lol.
>>97223649By default, PF2e is just made for the Modern Audience(TM). You aren't going to find anything "cool" or Made For Gamers anywhere. There was a pretty clear shift in how Paizo wanted the Pathfinder brand to be known as, and it definitely started before 1e finished production. And realistically, 1e or 2e, you always want to fine-tune the APs. You aren't going to get 6 books released in one year without the entire thing being upheld by jank. If you feel like you want to sex up the NPCs or excise the WOKE out of social encounter, it is all up to you. It is bullshit you have to, but I'm not going to pretend you wouldn't be doing similar work if Paizo was still the crew that made you skin alive drow and wear their bodies as disguises to enter the Not-Underdark.Related note: I would avoid the early 2e APs up to and maybe including Abomination Vaults. They were still trying to figure out how 2e meta really works and they all have some hideously balanced encounters and multiple premises that just immediately stop being relevant for pretty boring adventures.
>>97223264It sounds similar to ablative armor and shield plating except it's not tempHP and blocks hits that are just above your AC.https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=1102https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=1103It's a neat idea, doesn't break itself on crits. What kind of other items could go into its slot? Is this just a must have or is there competition?
>>97223748>What kind of other items could go into its slot? Is this just a must have or is there competition?Mechs are built out of parts and parts have "Slots". Slots are basically weapons slots which represent both Bulk and Hands necessary to wield. A one handed sword uses one slot, a two handed rifle uses two slots and a two handed heavy gatling gun uses 3 slots. You're basically using up one weapon slot (usually out of 5-6, with 2 of them being your two hands) as a shield instead of having an additional weapon (and you'll want to have weapon variety because there are no classes, and ammunition costs money)There are normal shields too and mechs have Shield Block and Quick Draw from the get-go, but you'll mostly want to spend your reaction with other much more useful thingsThe idea is that repairing the shield is less expensive than repairing the mech's HP, so it's a good option if the player doesn't have any interesting weapons left to pick and wants something to up their survivability without sacrificing action economy. I could also make variants that have more HP but cover less AC, or have more hardness but less HP.
Does anyone else feel like the Byzantine Empire is the closest thing human-kind had to an Elven civilization analogy during our actual history's middle ages? >>97222145True. I mentioned it because it was the first 'manaless' system that came to mind.>>97222175The spellcasting speed is about right, as well as the piecemeal nature of spells, but wizards doesn't seem limited by FP/EP and learning individual spells seems very easy, children learned Wingardium Leviosa in a single class.
>>97222175>>97222185Also Wizards can cast spells without wand, it's just easier to do so.Under standard magic system, I guess wands could be several levels of gadget Magery. Having it increases skill levels with all spells by a large margin, so even dabblers can cast spells but to do so without it a wizard needs to study the spell a lot.I guess it could explain why not even very talented mages like Dumbledore and Voldemort bothers with wandless magic.

Magic should be rare, mysterious, superstitious. It should take time to use and be exhausting to cast When did fantasy magic and wizards turn in Avatar the Last Airbender shooting fire and lightning out their assholes?
>>97217677If magic exists, and it's a natural phenomena, it should be common, spellcasting should be rare because it will be restricted by those in power having access to the knowledge. Spellcasting should take more time based on complexity and power of the formulae, any physical activity consumes energy based on intensity but training should mitigate the effects for a time. Ignoring your limits should be dangerous and magical, the corruption of self be it physically, mentally or spiritually. Now you have crazy magicians, deformed magicians or weir magicians caused by power hungry, not so clever or people skilled on hindsight.
If you want magic as a combat resource then fireballs etc are going to lose any sense of mystery pretty quickly. If you make casting times a lot longer then you can have magic as a background feature where the scenario is to stop or enable a ritual that opens a portal, summons or bnishes a demon... similar to Call of Cthulhu. If you drop the hermetic casting approach and have magic being gifted by infernal powers you also get a lot more flavour.
