>>97223264No fault to you, I imagine your campaign would be pretty cool. But you do remind me why I find attempts at "automating" the shield rules to be a bit a fools errand. I had similar thoughts way back at the playtest of 2e when I REALLY hated how shields work before someone explained why they were like that. When we start needing to add math on math, it does start to show why D&D5e just have it be a flat AC bonus, boring as it is to do such, and why PF2e makes sure you are USING the shield. At this point, I would argue you should either have something that let you Raise A Shield or gain Damage Resistance while doing something like, like Striding or Striking. Tie it into the "strategically turn their body" part. Anything to avoid making checking your AC more a pain.
>>97223733>avoid early 2E APS up to Abomination VaultsThat’s a shame, I kind of wanted to do Extinction Curse because of the circus theming.
>>97224207I can see where you're coming from. Yeah, having to remember that you have the passive shield and remembering what it's target AC instead of just having an AC bonus that's always on can be a bit crunchy. I think my players wouldn't mind it since our gameplay already has a bit of "we have a notepad on the side with important shit for us to not forget when playing" but I'll think about it for a bit
>>97224369yeah that one blatantly just ditches both the circus mechanics and themes. very much a "we give up" adventure.Curtain Call is better at being a mix between interesting stakes and mechanics that play into a theme, but it is a high-level adventure and one all about having a previous adventure to call back to and build the play around.
>>97224507That’s unfortunate but unsurprising, really.I’ve given Curtain Call a read and liked it, but that may just be my affinity for theater and opera motifs. I was thinking if I ran it I’d do Seven Dooms for Sandpoint as the preceding low level AP since none of the others really stuck out to me.

I can't believe I actually did it.My most recent game of Hansa Teutonica was actually ended by filling up 10 trading posts. 3 players, base map. We weren't even trying for it, we played for another 4-5 turns before someone said "Hey you should check how many of those cities are full". Do I win an award or something?
2nd time on Planto and I can see more of where "Loyang the Dice game" was the foundation and should have remain because this is just an absolute mess of a game. Almost audacious even in how little regard it has to table space, plausible but still unnecessary subsystems, and pasted on theme. I don't hate it, but I think the only pull back to it is to marvel at how this game ended up in this state and what the fuck they were going for besides "look I can do 30 things in a single turn that amount in uhh 6 VP"

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Have anyone here played this? How does it compare to the older 40k RPGs like Dark Heresy and it's derivatives? How does it compare to WFRP?
Did you ask the 40kRPG general?
>>97217635Personally I prefer the older 40k rpgs. By trying to make one generic system for any style of 40k game, it comes across as muddled. Each of the ffg games knew exactly what they were trying to achieve in terms of tone/gameplay/etc so they could do it well.

>>97221240Hmm... how would you adapt the Githyanki Knights as a unit for Warhammer Fantasy? Despite their name, these aren't merely specialized githwarriors, these are githyanki paladins devoted to their unholy lich-queen, the unacknowledged nascent god of the githyanki. As a unit, I'd be inclined to give them +1 Wound and Attack, maybe even +1 Weapon Skill and/or Strength, over the standard Githwarrior. They automatically come with Great Weapons, and they replace Stubborn with Immune to Psychology. I don't know if they should get any other special rules to reflect their "basic" magical abilities, or if that should instead be reserved for their character equivalents. One possibility that comes to mind is to give them the option to take at least Enchanted Great Weapons as a gear upgrade, which changes their attacks to magical; while Silver Swords are reserved for the most elite of gith knights (7th level and up), from 5th level onwards they do have a 50/50 chance of carrying +1 greatswords when encountered.
