Elf. You were once part of a great, magical society, blessed with the secrets and wisdom of ages past as well as centuries of life to study them. Now you're knee-deep in sewer water killing goblins with some guys whose parents weren't even born when you left home.

Mega sad! They introduced duels as a whole phase yet still managed to remove so much flavor by keeping sergeants out of it. I can live with no +1A from pistols, but they surprisingly also removed any bonus to charging.

Woah cool terrain. Those HSS looked like they were riding a huge land raider until I realized it was a terrain piece. Makes me think some terrain might be massive land crawlers that are stationary and scalable.
Maybe allowing claimed buildings to move 3"–6" could be interesting...

That means all models MUST be upgraded with shrapnel should any be chosen to. Then how come New Recruit lets me buy a shrapnel pistol on a sergeant without forcing the rest of the unit to upgrade? It's letting me incur in mistakes!

No not all leather armor has plates in it, Hoplite armor for people of average means was plated cotton or shaped leather made by their mom.

Only the wealthy could afford metal inserts. Not everything was the 1400s

>>
>>97256999
If it was just the name then DnD would describe studded leather as metal plates riveted to an outer leather shell. But instead it simply says it's leather reinforced with rivets. So no, he meant studded leather, because that's what the sources he had was talking about, it's just that the idea of studded leather originally came form people severely misunderstanding brigandine.

>>97258324
There is actual leather armour to be found. Buff leather coats and pants were a big thing in the early modern period, hardened leather pieces earlier on, leather lamellar over in China... But not the "leather plate" LARP suits, no, and any functional "studded leather" would indeed have metal plates on the inside.

It definitely didn't start there, but Disgaea is definitely a "demons aren't inherently evil" series. Though that's mainly because it's a further extension of their ongoing parody of fantasy rpgs that makes you the evil conquering demon overlord and not the hero. And there, the demons are either just regular joes trying to get through their day of patrolling land chunks and violently murdering intruders, or act like the height of evil is being rude to people and not washing their hands in the bathroom.

The Ottomans were infamously bad at their jobs.
>The Caliphate attains many, hell maybe even most of their administrators from captive boys. The slave trade is widespread in the Empire, with subjugated countries forced to give up boys as a part of a tithe. The bigger, stronger ones are sent to the Janissaries, a holdover from the Mamluk's mythical past. But the comelier boys are sent to the palace where they're trained to be courtiers and they're subjected to great abuse at the hands of their teachers who make them forget their native language before sending them through a rigorous curriculum.
>Janissary training is hard, but you'd much rather have that than be subjected to the horrendous abuse, social bullshit, and vaguely homoerotic nature of the courtier's servant. The teachers are bad enough, but the older boys are somehow even worse. Extracting 'favors' from you with the vague promise of networking that never seems to come. After you finish your training, whenever that might be, you get assigned to a Sultan or some courtier. And it turns out, putting abused, broken men flashing back to having to wash Ali's disgusting back with mold on it every five minutes is a horrible idea.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

If anything the skills should be lower for melee, consider that you're intrinsically using Guns skill against hefty penalties and they're still no higher than that
>>
>>97258000
Rank-and-file soldier = skill 12
Elite soldier = skill 15
The realistic templates for noble warriors in GURPS Crusades have skill 15. The ones for commoner warriors in GURPS Warriors have skill 12 or 15.
>>
>>97257762
Against an opponent of roughly equal skill, your odds of hitting with a melee attack are usually in the 25-50% range regardless of what skill level you have, because defences rise along with attack skill and the best attack option is usually to lower your effective skill to about 11-12 with a deceptive attack. For landing blows to the face or neck, the 'optimal' skill level against an opponent of equal skill seems to be about 15.
In a boxing match you would generally expect that 20-30% of punches would 'land'. This is roughly consistent with GURPS moderately skilled (12-15) fighters making a mixture of deceptive attacks, dual 'weapon' attacks, and targeted attacks to the face, arms, or vitals along with extensive use of retreats, evaluates, and defensive attacks.
>>
>>97258000
>you can't tell me an experienced mercenary or knight doesn't have a 100% hit chance (barring critical/automatic fails) against an opponent provided he's just trying to strike him
Against a completely unresisting target, when he can use all-out-attack determined and telegraphic attack, virtually anyone (skill 8 or better) can reliably (98%+) land strikes against something the size of a human torso and a skilled (12+) fighter can do it two or even three times a second. Against a moving target which is actively defending, while you have to defend yourself, performance drops dramatically and failure to connect becomes quite common even after slowing attacks to once every couple of seconds as you use feints and evaluates to increase your odds of success.
Sports fighters might 'land' maybe one blow every 5-10 seconds and they are highly skilled, usually only trying to connect lightly, and not fearing for their lives!

Can I get a QRD on how patron, duty, and rank work?
Like say you are a detective a generic police department. In my head, this means that while on duty, you have access to: a gun, a badge, and a car, and you also have to investigate what your boss tells you to investigate.

What combination of patron, duty and rank would give this in GURPS?

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

I'm talking about an IRL context, but it's pretty hard to get players to usefully critique DMing, out of politeness if nothing else
>Hey, person who just put a bunch of time and effort into entertaining me and three other people, before I head out I just want to say that the adventure was really bad, I didn't have fun, and you should do things better, by doing them differently, because what you're doing now isn't good.

And it's the majority of players, unfortunately. Maybe 25% of the hobby at MOST is even passable at DMing.
>I'm talking about an IRL context, but it's pretty hard to get players to usefully critique DMing, out of politeness if nothing else
Why bother? It's like critiquing some middle schooler's garbage poetry. It's not even worth the trouble, it's not going to help anything.
>>Hey, person who just put a bunch of time and effort into entertaining me and three other people, before I head out I just want to say that the adventure was really bad, I didn't have fun, and you should do things better, by doing them differently, because what you're doing now isn't good.
Yeah, exactly. No one wants to hear that, and also asking for feedback as a DM is cringe as fuck. It's like going to the car mechanic and he asks you afterward to take a look and see if he did it right. No, as a DM, you show up, you deliver, and that's that. You should know if your session went bad. You should know what went wrong, and work on fixing it. If you need to ask for feedback, you are either severely autistic, or fucking retarded. I am not trolling, I am being 100% serious. Maybe I was a little bit hyperbolic earlier, but I am absolutely serious. DMs that try to be super-transparent about their DMing, and want to have meta-conversations about it, are just adding another layer of awfulness to their shit DMing. Do not ask for critique. It doesn't fucking matter, you're not capable of implementing it anyway. If you aren't seeing the problems, there either aren't any, or you're too fucking retarded to fix them. I am dead serious.

Anon that's retarded. Like literally 0 creative hobbies work like that. Everyones got blindspots, especially when it comes to subjective shit like arts, so feedback is important. The issue is that GMs are only asking for feedback from other players, if they actually want good feedback they basically need to record themselves GMing and do a VoD review with another actually good GM

Do it like that anon told you, that is what works for me. But maybe watch out, try to lift the vat beforehand. If it sticks to the printer you have a breach in the vat and it would be better to leave the cleaning sheet and empty out the vet with it plugging the hole.

Absolute beginner here. Started printing with resin just two days ago. Even after not getting the cones of calibration to print just right i managed to print minis without failure.
Then i started to print some bigger models, a trike and a car. Those prints failed at about 80%, like they are sliced off... pic related

Any of you Anons know how to fix this? Help would be much appreciated
>>

Hmm. Can't say you're under supported. Settings are probably OK if you've had success before. Have you tried running the sliced file through UVtools or similar? I've seen slicers (especially earlier versions of Chitu) bug out and fail to render parts of supports.

Remove the screws holding the tank in place, lift up one corner, and reach in with a finger to GENTLY push up on the release film just underneath the corner of the sheet or hardened resin. As you do your other, gloved, hand goes in and tries to grab the corner like the other anons are telling you to do.

Question of the Thread:
Should mecha have hands? Should the hands be humanlike? If they shouldn't have hands, what should they have? If no hands, why even have arms?

An odd question but do any of you guys know if there is, or how to make, a piece like the viewport the hussar has in front of it's head, but on a smaller scale?

I don't understand the question. Are you talking about a drawing? A mini? A game rules design?

Man, that's a tough one.
Maybe a bit off an older tank or bunker miniature?

On the smallest scales the easiest thing is usually to just sculpt it out of putty. The details are gonna be a bit blobby regardless of the method and it's easy. Otherwise get some tiny tank kits like flames of war. Those are shockingly good for kitbashing with mechs.

my setting has the players fight as civilian monster hunters (ala a civilian militia), and they're all incentivized to customize their mechs for branding to receive better recognition and contracts, so it greatly varies based on region and personal aesthetics. Some people use the parts as they come, while some come up with shit that makes them look like they're 12. It doesn't help there are widespread artisan-mechanic guilds that are paid to do this work with specialized tools and materials. The military itself uses basic muted colors for their mechs or camo, and leaders get a special mark to distinguish them.
