The DNDs' Fighter can stop Red Wedding!

Fighter remembers... World has no Tony Stark because all Stark dies in Red Wedding! Takes uber back to Medieval Europe... goes to Craig's List, finds Ad! Posted by Bob Stark... looks like David the Dalmatian! 'This is literally Red Wedding, come here everyone!'

Remember Reasons why Red Wedding happens? 2 Reasons... first, Band is playing Rains of Castarkand!
IT'S RAINING CASTARKAND, HALELUYA IT'S RAINING CASTARKAND!
Has to stop this... no more Singing, no more Red Wedding! Fighter thinks... holy sh*t! Casterkand is literally Zanarkand from ffx!

Fighter knows... Him of Faith is national Anthem of Zanarkand... you know where this is going! Fighter sings!
FAITH, FAITH, FAITH, I'M LITERALLY HIM!
Band is shakying and crying... no more singing Rains of Castarkand! Reason 1 solved...

2nd Reason? Guys shooting Xbow everywhere! Everyone says 'This is literally bf andromeda from fsn!"
This is bad... Xbow is stronger than Gun! Pope had to ban Xbox because Xbow is too op!
Fighter remembers... you know Souledge? Ending of Souledge... Mitsurugi fights literal Gun God... Tanegashima, inventor of Gun!

Why is there so much whinging about 'No Games' on this board? I understand that those who come here solely with the intention of discussing tropes and the like can be frustrating to deal with, but there seem to be some folks here who make it their mission to drop bursts of negativity in threads they should've known would enrage them. And even in these threads that hold more general discussion, I don't see how nearly all of them are not at least tangentially related to traditional gaming.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Pretty much all of them. The rules prescribe doing that and, frankly, none of the alternatives attempted, such as pointcrawls, are anywhere as good.

>I really like the sound of the Wilderlands of High Fantasy's science fantasy elements.
If you want to look into it, try to get your hands on Rob Conley / Bat in the Attic revisions. Much not readable and high quality maps, although you still want to have the original ones as well because Rob omitted stuff like the generators.

That would be plausible were it not for the fact that Moldvay and Cook wrote the books in parallel and consulting each other, it's not like Cook was tasked with writing the Expert after Moldvay was done with it. They must have consulted.

If you think he's bad now, you should have seen some time ago, when for one or two years for some unknown reason all of his trolling comments would be left up, while every comment talking negatively about AD&D 2e and even most infographics about O/A/B/X/D&D would be deleted on sight. At some point, even the newbie guides were being deleted, after being left up untouched for over a year. Looking back at that period of time, it's kinda glorious that we made it through.

Halta has gone beyond how it was depicted in Scavenger Sons (for better and worse). I think Halta should be way smaller, but I'd still like it to be big, but also incorporate the size more into the lore besides from having a ridiculously large army.
>>
>>97393117
The literal book about Halta is a contender for the worst book in 1E, I'd say, and that one definitely shouldn't be taken as gospel. The fact is that Halta was originally presented as a bunch of guys living in trees and doing alright for themselves, which was cool and memorable, the kind of thing that wouldn't really work in the real world but fits Age of Sorrows Creation just fine. Then Kingdom of Halta decided, for absolutely no discernible reason, give Halta absolutely ridiculous population numbers, numbers completely out of scale with the rest of the East and with Halta's supposed arch-enemies, the Linowan. It was one of the dumbest writing decisions in the whole game's history. After that Halta's size obviously became the most notable thing about it, but in the worst possible way. People have been either complaining about or ridiculing Halta for a long, long time now, anon, and it might be a good thing to, you know, try and make it something other than a source of complaints and an object of ridicule. I think I said this before, but if you reduced all the numbers given for Halta - it's population, Chanta's population, it's geographical size - to one-tenth of what they were in 1E and 2E, you'd still be left with a large nation as far as Age of Sorrows is concerned, and one that's truly, extremely impressive considering its circumstances.
>>
>>97393144
>also incorporate the size more into the lore besides from having a ridiculously large army
It literally is, though? That's why it goes on and on about agriculture and it's magical solutions to a bunch of problems, and why it talks about how it handles it's relations with the more-and-more clearly beastmen settlements out east, since it's claim stretches east without limits even into the Wyld, and about how it stretches over the lands of three separate fae courts and deals with icewalkers too. Halta is isolationist by intent, because it means it isn't a world power and doesn't have to deal with anything more distant than it's borders that doesn't come to it, but within that it's absolutely part of the lore. The Realm's involvement, it's trade and tourism, it even specifies every First Age ruin inside it's borders because those borders are more occupied and acknowledged than they are for most of the states around Creation that have trouble defending and controlling space beyond the city walls.
>>
>>97393172
>I think I said this before, but if you reduced all the numbers given for Halta - it's population, Chanta's population, it's geographical size - to one-tenth of what they were in 1E and 2E, you'd still be left with a large nation as far as Age of Sorrows is concerned, and one that's truly, extremely impressive considering its circumstances.
You literally wouldn't, though? Reducing Chanta to a tenth takes it to 100k, which is half the size of Lookshy, itself a small state in the Scavenger Lands, which is full of relatively tiny states. Cities this size aren't uncommon. Whitewall and the Imperial City are both a similar size, and some cities like Nexus are bigger. Taking down Halta's total population across it's kingdom only makes it impressive compared to city-states.

Compare it to the other sprawling empires we know about. The Blessed Isle's about the same size, and more populated, and significantly more wealthy, but it's also the world superpower and a special case. Sure.

In Harborhead, Kirighast is bigger than Chanta at 1.5m. Harborhead's total population is smaller at 12 million people, but the satrapy is also much, much smaller. If you decimated Halta's population like you suggest, Chanta would not even be considered a major city. It's military is smaller at 500k, but Harborhead's fractured and that number's only considering the city-dwellers.
>>
>>97393267
Lookshy is a large city-state, anon. 109K is a large city in the Age of Sorrows - not one of the largest, but sgain, it's in the fucking trees. A city with 100000 inhabitants up in the trees is one hell of an achievement. Halta as a whole would still have a couple of million inhabitants, making it a large nation by most standards save for those of the Realm. I think that you considering a totsl population of, what, 2-3 million and a capital city of 100000 inhabitants unimpressive shows just how completrly the lsughably bloated numbers in Kingdom of Halta have fucked up your perspective. In a world with the technological level of Creation, those numbers would make for a fairly important regional power even if we were talking about a more conventional ground-dwelling civilization that has an easier time with agriculture and travel. For a tree-dwelling civilization those numbers are all the more impressive. For Chanta, specifically, 100K is pretty much exactly where I'd want its population to be - it'd be a major city, it'd obviously tske some suspension of disbelief to buy it, but in a world as magical as Creation I could manage that degree of suspension of disbelief.

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

It's sad to track an artist, if they name-fagged, in the archive, and they just suddenly stop posting one day. Not just here but on other boards too, I've experienced this. It's eerie. You never know when it will be the last time you'll ever see a person, much like how they didn't know it would be the last time they post on /tg/ (or whatever other board).

I need some help with the details of a game I'm planning. Tzeentch, got bored and decided to mess with some noble that collects art. After messing with his head through nightmares about his family selling his stuff after he dies the noble gets terrified about what will happen to his collection and decides the best way to keep it safe forever is to find someone who will care about it as much as he does. At a party he over hears someone from a different world talk about how Trazyn the Infinite stole some relics from their estate. Thinking that Trazyn is a collector like himself the noble decides to find him and donate his collection so it will stay safe from his family.

That's a quick summery of what I want to start with. Ignoring the ordeal of getting to him and the shock of finding out that Trazyn is a Necron, what would Trazyn do if the noble actually got to him and showed off his large collection of art? And what would he want to keep? Is there a particular kind of human artifact he would be interested in? Rarity, age, what would he care about?

AGP was an incredibly long-running greentext saga about a party of Dark Heresy players who were all former Imperial Guard, the Hammer of the Emperor, and thus treated every inquisitorial problem like a nail. In fairness, this usually got them out of as much trouble as it got them into.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Interesting from a legal position. Under my country’s laws I can do this without breaching copyright as I am effectively creating something that doesn’t exist, out of pre-made parts. Under the license agreement though it would be a no-no.

I'm not opposed to risk but considering you have to make a rouse check to wake up, appear alive, and use any discipline beyond the first dot: the game is literally just setting you up for failure. To even perform the basics already puts you at potentially 3 hunger before leaving your haven since the last dot doesn't go away unless you fully drain a victim. Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).

Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing.

If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

Nice sage, anon. Don't forget to pick up the cumin and thyme!

Why isn't there a gooner general so these sour-smelling knuckle-draggers can quarantine their shit there instead of having multiple threads going at once. The lewd and slop generals aren't containment enough.

>The game is much more fun if you play a more "from your gut" game and don't plan your turns out in the minutest detalils because mistakes make the game more interesting. At the same time, though, the game punishes mistakes somewhat harshly.
That's such a group dependent thing. I noticed it Five tribe. Got a group where we play by feel, quick and dirty. Not instant snap decisions but noone thinks about his turn for more than 20 seconds. The game is really fun that way.
Then I played it with a different, more competitive crowd and the game was agonizingly slow and exhausting, and overall soured me on the design. Sure, you can say it's the players fault and the game wants to be played in a certain way, but I can't tell from just looking at it. Eg. Agricola would be shit if everbody just wings it.

Really, your milage may vary and tbis variance in experience is inherent to most mid-heavy games, but really, just give me a comment box in the rules or something so I know how to set the tone and get the best experience.

Fuck my unlife now I have to go out with five women I ain't ever met, even seven maybe. No wonder Venus wanted to test my new shadow powers by fucking my tentacle, like she already knew how soon I'd need it.
So Venus had to make a bunch of calls to cancel appointments and stuff my poor boyfriend had.
I was miserable, those on the other side of the phone were miserable, I think mom is mostly over it, and she was overplaying her sadness, an Oscar-worthy performance.
Venus did the shrewd businesswoman thing, and offered to have the women of the house fill in for my man. One lady will call us back when she's done mourning, another refused, but the way mom looked at me, she's confident she gonna call us back too. The rest were in.
I used to mind my own business and ain't ever asked him about his customers, like, I didn't want him to think I was jealous and shit.
Princess Charming got the biggest sadists and in my opinion she ain't been... unhappy enough about Boy Toy's departure.

I just wanna learn the basics, really.
>>97392338
Was their reaction, both immediate and not so immediate, to your liking? You said you were looking forward to it.

Can a surgeon operate on their patient if they cry their eyes out? I'm just trying to help, Scarlet, everything I do is out of love, and I love you too.
>>97393212
It's her way of mourning, a little bit of finger pointing here, a little bit of psychological projection there, nothing you and I haven't seen before.
Please be lenient with her.

I'm sorry, I was out of line, dealing with this shit is tough.
