Hey /tg/ I have a problem. One of my players is a genuine incel. He's 27 and I'm pretty sure he's never had sex. He definitely hasn't gotten laid in a while. He's not really ugly just kinda weird and awkward. I feel bad for him. But he is taking his extreme thirst out in the game.

We tried talking to him about it but he twisted it around to make the rest of us sound like we were fucking gay or something. Also his character is too important to the story to kick him, and running him as an NPC would suck the fun out of it since there's be a lot of the DM just roleplaying with himself while the rest of us watch.
So....any advice? Its not worth ruining the game over by kicking him, and nothing is so blatant to be a clear social violation, but the dude is just oozing incel energy and I feel like I should subtly suggest to the DM something that will set his head on straight, and possibly help cure his mindset. Any ideas?

Nta but what I disliked was that it simply isn't race. It's a perfectly fine game I never want to play. You aren't holding a hand chock full of possibilities but have a kind of frustrating "to do" stack everyone can see. Now I'm all for chunky cardboard but drawing from the bag for some reason feels quite cumbersome here, it doesn't mix well and always feels like the pacing bottleneck, the only thing you really have to wait for. Didn't feel like rftgs great mix of strategic and tactical play but rather like just built the least bad development/planet you can from this meager pool.

I've not played many games with combat, but I've definitely not enjoyed dice combat much. Rolling isn't interesting to me. I'd rather do something like managing a concrete combat resource.

Does anyone have experience on running two systems simultaneously? I want to inject dungeon crawls with investigative mysteries and the prospect of characters going insane. I figured CoC and D&D would be a good place to start, because I want to move toward a bigger idea I had but need practice.

I've done exactly what you're talking about in GURPS and it worked beautifully.
Also, since CoC is a BRP system, you should look to something like Mythras to integrate dungeon crawling into your game.
Basically, D&D doesn't belong here.

I ran a game based on the Persona videogames a while back. I used Kids on Bikes to simulate the investigations and free time in reality, letting my players do side stuff to get temporary buffs to their D&D characters. Then once they had discovered the next target/dungeon We switched to D&D where their characters were their Personas and they ran through the dungeon. It ended up being every other week we would switch systems; a week investigating, a week dungeoning. It worked well enough, but I'm sure there's another singular system that could do it both without the need to homebrew so much. I think I would try to stick to one system in the future though. In your case, Maybe something like Arkham Horror RPG covers both the combat and investigation better than the two systems separated.

No. But I have homebrewed a system that's a mix of two. And I have had a game where two different core mechanics were used alternatively.

What you describe seems to be the first one. What I would do is find a core system that does what you want your heroes to do most of the time. Kill monsters, open trapped doors, etc. Make sure it needs the least alterations possible, so if you are going to go the Eldritch Horrors' way, no DnD/PF/DH for a game in the 1950s. For a game more like Darkest Dungeon, you go full steam ahead.

Then, you find a game that does the mechanics you wanna tack on it the best, and do just that. IDEALLY, for the sake of consistency, you try to blend the two.

So let's say you want a Darkest Dungeon game, you may want convert PF 1st to introduce CoC elements, you should use CoC horrors and Sanity, but instead of having a Sanity stat, you could alter Wisdom to serve there.

What you could do is multiply a character's Wisdom Score by 5% to obtain a Sanity score that should range from 40% (nat 8) to 90% (nat 18). When a character takes Sanity damage, for each 5% hit, the character takes 1 Wisdom damage that can only be healed with downtime, exactly like the CoC rules tell you. When a character takes X hits, it can receive temporary insanity the same way. And learning Eldritch (or even just Arcane) spells erodes one's sanity.

I have always liked the spell critical tables in theory but in practice I fucking hate making magic users any more powerful

I bring with me a story, a story I must re-type because 4chan fucked my post in my dealing with IP range bs! Long ago, 16 years and a couple days ago, an anon made a small game called Wizard Battle and posted it to /tg/. Last year, someone on a discord server I'm in told me of the game and told me to do something with it. As such, I've cleaned the game up a bit in some parts, and filled it up in others. It struck me that Arena's Starter Deck queue is unironically one of the best ways to play Magic (sometimes, not now) and I'd love it if people took the idea seriously. Trying to curate the best standard environment ever with like 8 viable decks that are relatively balanced against one another, and then let players customize their sideboards. You can make constant balance adjustments by just adjusting the card pool, instead of hamstringing yourself with the restriction that cards can't be removed unless they're totally egregious because it makes people lose confidence in the gacha game.
