How things go onto the stack and how the resolve have been there far long before Arcane was even a thing.

She's the definition of new age commanders that enables itself. Unfortunately, she's not op enough to draw attention. Compare her to winota for example, the ikoria girl can cheat multiple guys for free turn 3-4, while Bre is only one depending on your life gain. Anyway, boros lifegain is a cool concept, I'll build her in a few months for low Power tables using 50 dollars

Yeah, Bre is balanced and not a design mistake

But why tho?
>>97893764
>can you really play 6th with just it?
Yes, it's a one in all book and seems nice.
>are the lists poop/boring compared to the army books or?
Can't say yet, I've been using regular army books but want to try it out one day since it had some unique elements.
>>
>>97894814
>But why tho?
because in the older editions they had models, so ravening hordes, which is meant to keep existing armies playable, kept the profile
meanwhile in the serious reinvention of warhammer that was 6e, goblins didn't get an update to the spider riders and the older models weren't included, so the unit profile was not included in the armybook either
then they got updated models in 7th and were reintroduced in the rules as well in 7th
>>
>>97894814
>But why tho?
Ravening hordes was a stopgap designed to keep every army/collection playable. The 6e books were significant reinventions of many factions and warhammer in general so armies lost/gained shit all over.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

Thread Question: Do you use your world building in games and projects as you go or are you waiting for something such as your world feeling somewhat complete?
If you are waiting, at what point do you think you world will be ready to use?
Alternatively are you just world building for the joy of worldbuilding, with no particular game or project in mind at this time?

When it comes to China, the Qing didn't want to "eliminate" the Mongols; they wanted a stable border. Expansion was often imperial incorporation rather than settler colonization. There was no general genocide of Mongols in China. Yes, one major Mongol-related genocide episode exists (Dzungar Khanate genocide), but it is specific, not general. There was no systematic extermination or expulsion policy. For most of the Qing era, they actually forbidden Han Chinese from moving into Mongol lands to keep the Mongols as a distinct military caste.

The fact that China has more Mongols than Mongolia is mainly a geographic and demographic boundary outcome, not a mass population replacement story. The Mongols remained a distinct, recognized group, but their territory was integrated into the Chinese administrative and demographic orbit.

Both cases are very different from the North American experience which is often described as "Exclusionary Settler Colonialism", compared with Frontier Imperial or incorporation and frontier colonialism.
>>
I suppose >>97893769 is as good a reason as any. The Empires don't wipe the horse Nomads out because there's no strict military reason to do so and they have other things to draw their attention.
>>
>>97893889
china also used them as a cudgel/buffer state against their neighbors

giving the current reigning savage tacit permission to go raid china's subordinate nation to keep them in check
or
graciously giving their subordinate nation domain over a bunch of land currently occupied by mongols (telling them to go waste all their military resources in a frozen shithole)

A magical spell used by Chieftains of powerful Sorcerous families to perpetuate their existence past their natural death, and to prevent the inevitable fate of greedy murderers- transformation into a Ghoul or Vampire.

The process is simple enough. The Sorcerer takes a subject, mostly his Heir, when the latter is a child. Then the Sorcerer commits to a ritual that connects his Blood to his Soul, and feeds it to the Heir.

Again, and then again, and again....sometimes even for years, this process is constantly repeated until the Heir has been trained to feed on the blood of the Chieftain.

And then when the Sorcerer dies, sometimes by his own hand, his soul postpones passing to the Afterlife- where it will have to face God's Judgement for its Sins- and instead possesses the Heir.

In cases of powerful Chieftains possessing weak vessels, the Vessel is turned into a reincarnation of the Chieftain, hence Anastasis (Reincarnation). But in cases where the Vessel has greater potential than their Sire, they will form an amalgam of the two souls and retain their original personality.

However, they will retain their thirst for blood, and so powerful Chieftains often keep specially bred slaves just to sate their cannibalistic appetites.

What have you collected in your personal rpg library over the years? Have you managed to keep it succinct and nice or do you just haphazardly keep adding new stuff? What are the core pieces? Have you tried to self-publish something like collated tables? What are some more niche publications you use often?

Suppose there's 10 different supplements, publications, whatever you have, and from each you really like only that one chapter, or only few tables. Or you have a folder on your pc with 50 different random tables and pdfs and webpage articles you saved over the years. You select what you like, throw it into epub editor or indesign or whatever you prefer, format it, have it printed and at the end you got your very own, beloved publication of tables, or plots, or definite list of tweaks to your favourite system etc.

I live 500 meters away from the city library. Why should I build my own? What for? Other than "you will collect things and dust on them and pretend you are happy", that is being implied here.
A rulebook exists to have rules in it. You read those, and that's it. You like them, then you use them. You don't like them, so you don't use them. But why storing them?
What's the actual benefit? You know, one that justifies the whole "b-but it's nice to have things" beyond just pointless ownership of physical object for... no point or goal at all.
>>
>>97894851
>continues to bullshit in polish
See, this is what marks you. You'll actually argue with a wall because you don't want to do a thing.
>>
>>97895179
I asked you a simple question - why should I collect rulebooks, or frankly, any books? Is it really too much to expect an answer that best you can do is dodge the question entirely?
There are exactly three books in my life that I had any use of after a single reading:
- "Polish Cities' Legends" (great for gaming, definitely more useful than any rulebook ever)
- the cook book I use to cook (each dish is only made once in three years, so too rare to memorise)
- the prayer book I use for Via Crucis (it's too rare of event to memorise all the answers to the priest perfectly)
Why should I own more? What for?

Most "people" are low iq retarded apes. They are physically unable to imagine perspectives outside of their own. Worse than that, they are physically unable to engage in hypotheticals, i.e. fantasy.

Thus, the imperiumtard is born. The imperiumtard believes himself to be a "good guy". Again, since he is unable to understand hypotheticals, he takes them literally. He looks for himself in any scenario. In Warhammer 40k, he looks for himself, and he finds the Imperium. Since the retard believes himself to be "the good guy", this necessarily extends to his proxy. Therefore he believes that the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable is good.

Of course, there are sentients who play 40k as well. Sentients recognize that Ryan Gosling is not literally you. Sentients can play any faction they like without self inserting as the little plastic figurines. This is physically inconceivable to the imperiumtard.

Therefore the imperiumtard concludes that Chaos players must believe that Chaos is good. So, sentients must be hypocritical! How can they say that the Imperium is not good, when they think that Chaos is good?? Hence the meme.

Now, what can be done to prevent these subhumans from totally overrunning /tg/ and traditional games as a whole? Is it already too late? I see this behavior in far more places than just 40k.

If that's the case, why are there entire imperial secret police dedicated to finding and punishing "heretics"? There is no Eldar inquisition, because they don't need one.

>>97895225
If that were true, there wouldn't be need for the inquisition. The Eldar do not have an equivalent. There is no secret police or central authority needed to enforce the Path.

The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...

STL bargain bin with some OPR rules for all of them. Companies that have fallen into irrelevancy like Privateer Press need to stay afloat somehow. The Warzone stuff will be sold on its own My Mini Factory store though, it was smart to skip the Kickstarter for that now that the files will be real cheap.
>>
>>97895046
I don't know most of those, but Warp Minis have cool stuff
>>
>>97895111
If you are truely interested in this bundle, i highly recommend to look for some people to groupbuy with, and then share the files.
Bundles like this are usually never worth it, because you realistically never print everything, so at least divide the high price by splitting it with 10-15 guys.

Don't know if i posted my character from Mutant: Undergångens Arvtagare (swedish older version of Mutant: Year Zero) here before.
Nilla af Pitea is a Zone Stalker that hails from beyond the northern wastes, beyond the town of Ume and the Malgomaj Anomaly Zone, from the ruins of an ancient city by the East Sea's north bay.

She's heavily based on Axa, Red Sonja, Ghita of Alizarr and Thundarr the Barbarian, meaning she is a complete fish out of water when it comes to the southern, more civilized, areas and their cultures.

By playing C4 after your opponent played D5 to your D4 is Queens Gambit. Accepted or declined is choice of black. Accepted is considered weaker since middle ages, literally, and this was confirmed by supercomputers, but top players still need to be prepared for it, since there are some traps later in the lines. QGD on other hand offers a million of fighting positions both for black and white. That's why it's so popular for both sides. Black can go for reti, indian, modern, queen's pawn, benoni... if he wishes to avoid Queen's Gambit, but every one of those is much narrower in opportunities and scope (or they transpose into a known line of Queen's Gambit), so a quality white player will be able to remember the lines and lead the match into, to him, known positions, offering him advantage.

This is one of the biggest cancers in modern wargaming, I'm trying to fight a battle not play fucking sportsball. You either achieve the objective by the end or you don't. No general ever "scored" his troops on how long they stood on the hill or bridge he wanted captured, all that matters was if you were still standing on it when the battle was over.
>>
>>97893926
nta but one of the other problems with 3.0 was the huge loss of options and customization, and the overall writing of the ruleset seem to have some odd choices, like the challenge system, now not only legions, in general, lost some special rules but they were replaced with challenge stuff same with most special characters (half the special rules from primarch and named character are challenge related)
>>
>>97895116
Challenges are a good mechanic in theory imo, the writers of 3.0 just got completely lost in the fucking sauce and overcomplicated the shit out of it for very little real gain.

lol. megalol.
>>
>>97894762
idk, I have like zero interest in 2e, but do have interest in some more divergent tangentially OSR things and the mixing and matching thereof, So I wouldnt be in favor of a solely 2e thread. I do think TODD is a bit of a wonky name though.
>>
>>97894762
The /2eg/ thread was pretty clearly being kept alive with all of the troll arguments. It being slow is a good thing, because it means people aren't spending all their time arguing about what game belongs where.
>>
Nothing wrong with slow threads. It's noice to have a boarder OSR thread, if you do another 2e thread the same 2e haters will just show up to detail it sadly .I do agree TODD is a bad name though

Magic the Gathering: No UB

LET'S FORKIN GOOOOO Edition

This is a thread for a discussion of Magic the Gathering where no set or release that required 3rd party IP licensing can be mentioned. That includes Universes Beyond and Secret Lair.

WARNING: There is a massive sperg from /edhg/ seething over the existence of threads he didn't personally make and it is highly likely that he is going to try to shit up these threads for a while.
Ignore him and one day he will kill himself.

The ONLY Magic sets this year:
>Lorwyn Eclipsed, January 23 2026
>Secrets of Strixhaven, April 24 2026
>Reality Fracture, October 2 2026

>Hat sets like Thunder Junction, Markov, Aetherdrift, etc feels more like the writers don't want to actually bother with a consistent plot or world and just want to do these "fun" concepts
I'll agree DFT was conceived that way but I wouldn't put it in the same tier as OTJ. Despite the ridiculous premise it does do a fair bit of worldbuilding for Avishkar/Kaladesh and Amonkhet, and irons out some of the new interplanar politics that weren't really touched on much in the sets prior. It's not like OTJ which was completely plot-driven and dropped the characters wearing cosplay in an empty sandbox.

Lots of custom cards are inspired by other IPs. /ccg/ can only live on its own.
>>
>>97894735
DFT was bad though. Whatever idiot came up with death races for Magic needs a pay cut. I also hate that we revisited Amonkhet but most of the cards were tainted with that shitty Start Your Engines! mechanic which we will literally never see again.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, I do not think Magic benefits from every set having a new keyword. I think existing keywords and mechanics being revisited would be more interesting. I'd rather see Rooms actually become playable than just hyperactively jump to the next thing constantly

that's what comes of every set needing to be a new thing, I suppose

Pigheaded Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

I would so be down for WW1/dieselpunk paratroopers.
>>

New Antioch school of Aviation.

Fire teams can be deployed after the first turn anywhere, as long as they are 8" inches away from an enemy unit.

"Seraphim" fighter class airplane 200 ducats, may purchase cases of rounds for 50 ducats or up to two bombs for 100 ducats each.

In order to use the plane a radio operator needs to be in line of sight of an enemy and use the "Call for Close Support" risky action. If the operator is dead the plane will return to base.

Thoughts?

>Big-Daddy style Machine Armour, even if just an option for the Anointed, is a shame considering they've already done art for that
Yeah a shame but the priest is still cool

Don't forget to roll off to decide which player places the terrain, sweeties ~•°

First one to call dibs, or first one to flash their dick in the store gets to place down the terrain
