An old Pathfinder buddy of mine sent me this and it just hit me as so tragic. How many people are stuck with shelves full of stuff that they'll never be able to use at a table? To what end?Post any similar /no games/ misery and / or discuss anything relevant.
>>96415445I like reading systems, but the games are just a huge hassle to play, honestly, and GMing (the only part that interests me), is not that easy unless all you're trying to do is dump a bunch of random monsters into a dungeon.
>>96445468I'm trying my best not to be an ass here. But there is something called the GNS theory.Known as game, narrative, and simulation. When people talk about it half the time they change one of the words but it pretty much fits all the same. D&D pretty much heavily lead inside game side of the triangle. World of darkness, and nowadays powered by the Apocalypse is in great example of narrative meaning games. While a good example of a simulation game would be something like I don't know basic Call of Cthulhu and most games that use the basic role-playing system. You can expand your horizon with different types of games, not everything has to be going to a hole in the ground to kill goblins for pocket change.
>>96443074He was high on his own farts
>>96445357>Honestly I hope you have a better group nowadaysThey’re much more pleasant people but will only play 5e. I managed to get them to try genesys but ended up not liking the system very much. I thought combat was meant to be snappy but it felt like a slog. Maybe I just wasn’t running it right.
>>96445793You're not talking to the right person. I have read fate, d&d3.5 and gurps, and a couple other lesser known ones. I have probably thought about the gaming <-> storytelling <-> simulation triangle more than most people who actually play.

>>96445756just stop being poor lol its not hard money isnt even real
>>96435339The types of people who are able and willing to make a good game are not the types of people capable of running a successful business. In order for a wargame manufacturer to be a successful long-term company, it needs to be heavily anti-consumerist like GW is, but of course buying products from an anti-consumerist company is a very unappealing prospect for consumers. You compete with GW by being less anti-consumer, but that means the only competitive edge you can have will also directly eat into your profit margin. It is a fundamentally unworkable equation. You need to be able to eat huge losses for years while you build brand loyalty in order to be able to seriously threaten GW's position, which no small start-up can do.

>>96436533George Lucas wants you feeling like you are reading two or three comics at once. Like he did as a kid. Hence feeling like you have two separate stories. Honestly I like attack of the clones, but I can see the argument that the storylines mix well. And arguably starting with the start of the clone wars could have tied things together.>>96437954Agreed, though I think her not sharing any details would have worked- shes trying to punish Poe for having earlier showboated and going over the leaders heads. But that's not the same as making it seem like there was no plan.
>>96429475essentially, the GMs were running some weird TOR era AU serverwide campaign, which gave them enough excuse to throw anything and everything into the actual game while handwaving most of it.most of it (and a fair amount of the more active players) was stupid, but it had its moments
>>96414349I liked the Acolyte, in spite of it being in the High Republic era. The biggest criticism I have of it is that it pulls its punches with the critique of the Jedi and doesn't go far enough into that direction - and its anachronistic style of storytelling in the form of flashbacks do more harm than good. If they just edited the story so that it's chronological rather than jumping back and forth in the show's timeline every episode I think the story would've improved, but yeah the Acolyte was good. I'll take something like that over Filonislop any day
>>96438179Star Wars has never focused on the science part. It's a space opera, a fantasy story with sciency elements but ultimately on the same realm as Conan the Barbarian. That's why shit like Saxtonism is retarded, trying to find muh hard soience explanations for everything down to how Ewoks shit, and adding tons of elements that don't feel Star Wars at all. At that point just go read a hard science-fiction book, don't bother us SW fans with your crap

Dragons are one of the archetypal things you expect to see in fantasy, arguably even more than other mainstays of the genre like Elves, Dwarves, Gandalf-style wizards, etc. Be they monsters, incarnations of pure Good, Evil, or some other force or being, actual gods or other divine beings, shapeshifters who can take on human form as needed, or what, Dragons seem to capture our imaginations like no other, with cultures all over the world having legends of dragons and similar creatures. So, I figure it couldn’t hurt to talk about how you handle dragons on your own settings, and what your favorite depictions are. Art of dragons is fine too!
Dragons are beasts. I don't want talking, spellcasting, magic-item-using dragons. I want big flying fire-breathing animalistic lizards that are meaner than an abused cat. >b-but they're too easy!the fuck they are
>>96441073>the fuck they arelol, they absolutely always will be trivial unless you go the Tarrasque/kaiju route and make them arbitrarily nigh invulnerable. Otherwise it's just a matter of exploiting their animal mind. Just bait them into a trap, or poison/trap their food with explosives or other things like destroying their eggs while they aren't looking.
>>96150089In my setting that I'm working on the dragons are basically the Camarilla from VTM. Basic gist is that a lot of dragons were wiped out in a not!whaling/genocide campaign that followed a period of industrialization. At the time it was believed that dragons were nothing but mindless beasts that were bad for business, and this is the narrative that most people believe. In reality there is a massive conspiracy to wipe all types of dragons out, going so far as to do serious levels of mindfuckery on entire populations of longer lived races to make them forget the truth. The dragons, not wanting to be wiped out by said shadowy conspiracy, formed uneasy alliance and went underground. Now they work from the shadows and orchestrate things like puppet masters. Except they really REALLY hate working together, so they spend their time politicking and arguing which almost always rapidly devolves into infighting.
>>96441073Doesn't DOTA do both approaches? Most dragons are non-sapient, but there are some that are basically demigods who are reborn by possessing a dragon of their breed if their current vessel dies, IIRC.
>>96005679Well they're all egotistical sociopaths. Mortals can't POSSIBLY rival ME in power. Those other dragons weren't as good as ME.

>>96445060Tyrannomon is neat, good to see it specialise in its own Version (stacking reduced evo cost with Koromon) while also being tribal support. Not groundbreaking but Devimon and Greymon do very little so a good 3rd rookie. Justimon is hilarious because most (all?) delay options are trashed regardless of whether you're destroying them or your opponent is using them. Locking them out of an attack for popping a boost will be great. >>96445065Chronicle option super obnoxious, basically letting Grademon "blast" twice in a single swing. So they either don't attack at all or have to attack your immune high DP level 5. And if they don't attack at all you can use it when they attack them. Good luck lol Kimera option will do the job. Often with ver.2 base your level 4 with all the facedowns won't lose the security battle it needs to get your Kimera parts in the trash (because of either Jamming or Elecmon). Killing SkullGreymon to get both a Kimeramon and Vegiemon on the field will put you in a great spot
>>96445060>kicked out of EX9 for no reason despite being the mascot for the original vpets>guaranteed to be borderless since it's not in EX9>now it's here and has a shit and boring -1 cost effect in a deck that already makes evoing basically freeI'm so disappointed.
>>96445065The Kimeramon Option almost looks good enough to be used generically in basically any Purple deck, especially discard decks. Just pretend the Delay effect doesn't exist.I wish they gave it the Composite trait for the Millenniummon deck, but I suppose cost-3 isn't a very significant discount for those Kimeramons, and definitely not for Millie.
