>>96436345Maybe i mean generally it's hard to represent an alien culture because we're humans and we can only really write within the limits of our own imaginations. That said, i think you could find a very alien way of thinking but not here, not with tolkien's elves they aren't inhuman, they're very human, both are children of the same parent. Elves marry humans, they understand each other enough for this to happen, remember such bonds are deeply emotional to an elf, and elves simply will abandon their bodies based on bad emotions. his examples were very human matters too. they don't think different to humans, they're not even different to our culture.

>For the emperor>The emperor protectsHow do 40k fans actually have the guts to spill out and larp about stuff like this when it's completely contradictory to what the setting stands for?You aren't fighting for the emperor, he's a corpse, you're fighting for mcbureocrat shecklethief, goldlord eatsalot, royalfuck richbourbon and corruptatron 9000. The entire setting is not about humanity's fight but about humanity being fucked in the ass by a couple elites.Pro imperium thought is genuinely a unfathomable concept to me aside from people projecting their personal political preferences to try and make the "fascist" (obviously not fascist) imperium fit their idea of mankind's noble last stand instead of shecklethief's feudal space fiefdom. It's ok if you're like "hell yeah this sucks that's retarded and awesome" but many people seem to think it's perfectly justifiable to fight for "mankind" while some nobles live in palaces made out of solid gold. "But it's our only choice agains't xenos and chaos"Well scrubbing off some of the luxury from the planetary governor's palace and giving it to the astra militarum regiments would surely help things a lot but no one seems to think there might be better ways to fight off agains't shit. That and the imperium perpetuates chaos, without it chaos wouldn't spread, 90% of all chaos followers are from imperial origin and their greatest princes are supersoldiers made by them

>>96438179>what keeps the setting from being soft sci-fi truly? There isn't really an aspect that appeals to the science crowd even back in the 80s. Such aspects are potential technologies that can be coming to our future or the status of humanity itself in the future. That separation is deliberate too by the creators, as the opening is "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." The whole thing is framed closer to a fairy tale or a legend in the past than a thought experiment looking forward towards the future.
>>96436533George Lucas wants you feeling like you are reading two or three comics at once. Like he did as a kid. Hence feeling like you have two separate stories. >>96414349I liked the Acolyte, in spite of it being in the High Republic era. The biggest criticism I have of it is that it pulls its punches with the critique of the Jedi and doesn't go far enough into that direction - and its anachronistic style of storytelling in the form of flashbacks do more harm than good. If they just edited the story so that it's chronological rather than jumping back and forth in the show's timeline every episode I think the story would've improved, but yeah the Acolyte was good. Trying to hammer out a solid setting/headcanon for a unified Alien/Predator universe. Here's my take on what to keep , what to shitcan and what to add:>Things to KEEP: The Queen and the hive from Aliens. Gives the bugs a purpose beyond just being murder-insects. Diverse Alein lifeforms (e.g., the T. Ocellus from the Alein Earth). Gritty corporate dystopia. Weyland-Yutani is the real villain. "Truckers in space" aesthetic is mandatory. The Engineer/Forerunner concept, but ONLY as a way to explain panspermia. It elegantly explains why so many species are biologically compatible (e.g., Facehuggers working on humans and Yautja). It also supports my favorite fan theory: the Yautja didn't invent their advanced technology; they inherited or reverse-engineered it. This explains how a tribal, honor-based society can also have plasma casters and FTL ships.>Things to discard:The AvP movie lore. Predators did not build pyramids on Earth. The Human/Xenomorph Hybrid (looking at you, Newborn): This completely demystifies the Xenomorph for me. The horror of the Alien is its otherness. It's already the ultimate killer because it takes traits from its host—it's already optimized to hunt us. Making it more human just makes it less scary. The "Magic" Black Goo: As it stands in the prequel films, the goo is a narrative crutch. It can create, it can destroy, it can mutate... it can do whatever the plot needs. I'd either discard it entirely or give it hard, consistent rules.>Things to ADD: More alien life in general. The galaxy feels way too empty with just humans, Xenos, and Preds.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
For a janky console RTS game AvP Extinction has a fun story, the company makes both a tame alien subspecies you fight in the Alien campaign and a predalien queen to fight in the Predator one. Inventing new aliens to fill a unit roster makes the lifecycle even more complicated unfortunately.
The genetically altered xenomorphs were wiped out, guess natural is best.
How should Praetorians fit into the lifecycle? Potential queens from Royal facehuggers? Normal aliens fed Royal Jelly? Every game has its own version.

"wanting to be left alone and not bending over and sucking her brown penis".Don't worry about failure, it retroactively never happens because the lgbtq empires magic queefbot ai was actually running that session as a simulation works to correct the outcome so you get to go again till you succeed.Don't forget that any setback the empire suffers is retroactively undone. And don't worry about losing your mechs, or taking damage, you can always print more.>the kickerThe mechs are just showing pieces for propaganda, the real fighting is done by fleets firing paracausial weapons from galaxies away with pinpoint precision. It makes more sense when you realise the writers have complete disdain for any mecha media.

>>96444908I'm pretty sure the multiverse talk came about when stuff about the Well of Urd and it having alternative Creations in it. I thought that came about in the 2e abyssal book but it was probably invented way earlier. I don't think it was ever directly said that there are infinite multiverses though, just that the possibility may exist. Which like... just say no. Although I bet anything someone out there thinks the Well of Urd is the coolest thing ever. For me it's the Eye of Auto. The fuck is that thing, why is it here, what would I do with it. I refuse to leave the ancient artifact that dooms everyone it touches. I want to, I don't know, give it to that lady in the sun. Maybe it can help make her job easier or something. Find stuff that can actually improve your job in the Daystar seems like a pain in the butt.
>>96444252Techhnically, sure. But I mean…max oWoD mage wank goes up to introducing new constants to the universe with NO “it has to be subtle” limits, experiencing and interacting with all of space-time at once, or outright creating new universes.I don’t think even max 2e wank E10 Charm bullshit competes with that on an individual basis, at least. Not from the Sidereal charmset. Besides, it takes thousands of years to even get to statted First Age Solar level and Sidereals all have set lifespans so if we’re really playing this imaginary big dick contest seriously-the Sidereals are inherently disadvantaged because they just drop dead by the time it takes for them to even come close.Anyway, like you said all of that is navalgazing for the purposes of PCs who aren’t locked into a campaign where they have to deal with Voormas trying to use the Pashupata Astra to eliminate the concept of death. Because if you end up in such a campaign, either your ST hates you or you’ve long ago agreed on a set of homebrew rules to enable it that ensure you are basically not playing Exalted anymore.>>96444679Nah, miss me with that pessimism. Having a longwinded autistic explanation about Auto’s enmity with the Wyld is exactly the kind of experience I come to Exalted for. >>96444746I’ve come to accept that Nobilis is the game that Exalted was sold to me as. And unfortunately, it is a very different experience to Exalted.
>>96444969>give it to that lady in the SunGiven Nysela just wants to uphold the ideals of the Unconquered Sun as much as possible (and get dicked down by him; 3e making her his daughter just makes that funnier) so handing her the object notorious for dooming any owner sooner or later is probably a good way to make her very upset. In fact, I’m totally using this idea as an Infernal plot someday. Why bother cursing or corrupting the Daystar when you can simply put a treasure in there that will do it for you?
>>96444794>Local issues ends up being 99% of games.I feel like that's desirable, to be honest. There's some people who treat Exalted like its Crusader Kings and I've never been interested in that at all or considered that kind of removed interaction with the world at large to be really fitting for Exalted. Keeping it local lets you build up interesting characters/places, and make the stakes more personal when push comes to shove.
>>96445088>Having a longwinded autistic explanation about Auto’s enmity with the Wyld is exactly the kind of experience I come to Exalted for.If I had to write a lore explanation for this kind of stuff, Auto creates various porpuse organisms and materials. After the 777 billionth Fae fucking around with his shit leading to a lost game of divnity he says "Well fuck your kind, in general" before crafting the mother of all stable materials even cutting a part of himself to allow it to cut the illusions of the fae. The main reason why this wasn't developed further was because if he replicated that targeting other deities would be bad enough to justify imprisoning him driving a wedge that would eventually lead to the devine revolution.

I like how "no games" is the /tg/ equivalent of calling someone a virgin.Like everyone wants sex but the awkward anti-social losers can't get sex. It's exactly the same with being able to get into a TTRPG game. The parallels are uncanny. You keep approaching people and they keep rejecting you, It's too perfectOf course in the TTRPG world, anyone can become "the woman" by being a GM themselves, thus becoming the desirable entity that everyone is clamoring to get with.Wait does this mean GMs are trannies?

>>96433474>You keep players focused by banning phones at the tableSo was this a non-issue before smartphones became the norm?Genuine question, I'm too young to know if it was
>>96443790Pretty much. Rarely you'd have players who got distracted with socializing to the point where it would disrupt the game of course, but that wasn't an issue tables ran into consistently. In terms of people actually sitting down and playing lasting games, ttrpgs peaked in the 80s-90s, and I think that's because it was easier to keep people focused and engaged with the game.
>>96443757>>96443783it's even funnier to me because "nogame" is an insult in /agdg/ where it means basically the exact same thing.
