How do you guys like this game? I’ve read a good chunck of the setting and there are some problems;> “Everything is fucked…except only the inner rim because the gay space communism in the rim is great”> consistent dark text on dark background > HEAVY crunchI’ve mitigated a bit by using the FATE system conversion and making the setting a bit more nuanced but outside of those the setting seems rather unique. And given it’s all basically free it’s a good deal even with the “in your face” nature of the politics. But what do you fa/tg/uys think?
I'd rather read a game by a commie than by a centrist neoliberal.
>>971781361e or 2e? I think it has great ideas but is ultimately ruined by le singularity monsters and ayys
>>97178152That’s fine, but when it’s overly obnoxious to the point of undermining the point of the game it’s detrimental. Even a game like Disco Elysium made by the most theory thumping tanky can realize the flaws inherent in a system. Compounding that with a near extinction level event and persistent problems with other factions and its a shame to not also make the obvious decentralized nature of varying groups a Boone and detriment in the setting (sure you’ll be all for one one for all when a major polity rolls in, but you’re #1 target for criminals who don’t want to mess with the big boys)
>when the DM says you have to draw a map
>>97175514>>97176321I draw rooms on the dry erase grid as they explore and erase them as they exit. Means the players still have to map and put the pieces together, no worries about bad descriptions, and a map is already on the table for combat. dungeons are easy to keep track of (until teleporters become a thing), but caves are difficult as hell (rightly so)! The first time my players used their map to find a secret room, they were ecstatic.

It's hard to take manlets seriously. Dwarves are the only ones who have at least a bit of the cool factor. Gnomes and halflings just suck.

Why was XP for gold largely abandoned as a way to reward players?
>>97178135"One more won't matter" is exactly how we end up at a the current point where the GM has to make up half the game
>>97178141Pure hyperbole, it's not like GURPS has a single concrete method for awarding character points, and yet there's a pretty substantial number of rules
>>97178147The DM doesn't have to make up a lot of stuff in GURPS in general, though.
>>97178159You'd be surprised
>>97161391I've been doing it in my campaign and I'll tell you the reason: you need gold sinks or gold becomes meaningless with the amount of XP people need to level up. It also creates kind of a narrative dissonance between people sitting on literal fortunes and staying at a tavern or something. I'd say you almost wanna look to Cyberpunk as inspiration; the same way mercs spend their eddies can work for mercenaries spending their ducats.
How to make a setting feel like it's not a not!x setting?I recently got some of my friends into GURPS. They wanna play a fantasy setting for their first experience. I want to make sure the setting feels like it's own and doesn't feel like the characters are exploring not!europe or not!england. I've been told this was a bit of a problem in my previous pathfinder campaignHow do I make the setting feel like it's own thing without the players feeling like they are just going through the real world?

Is there a super system that is purpose built to integrate RPG scale, Skirmish, scale and wargame scale scenarios into one campaign?I think that would be pretty epic. You might first go on an rpg party scale infiltration mission to get some kind of advantage for the next session that is a wargame, where if you succeeded, maybe you can hide a unit anywhere on the tabletop.I think I heard people saying that it was kind of attempted in some Old DnD releases and ACKS, but it never seems to really be all that focused on or displayed in action much.Would totally be a niche gameplay style that would require a group both up for rpg's and wargames, but I think it could be pretty epic.
>>97177665Too bad you've never played them let alone any other game.

>>97177871It's a bit of an ironic claim when we are discussing a campaign I ran between few different systems. And yes I have played DnD, both new and old, and oldest editions were....not good, because ya, good shit came out after they were made, first ones were terrible.

Fuck off faggot go content farm somewhere else.I'm sure there's a bunch of stories you can steal off Reddit.
My players just convinced an evil master of a thieves' guild to help save their (the players') boss. The master was hesitant but in the end she agreed.
There was an evil orc content miner menacing a small village, taking all their myths and legends and passing them off as his own in the orc kingdom. Our bard composed an epic tune that boasted of all the human children he had diddled and when the orc took it without thinking, the very next day the King's men came and took him away in a wagon. Then a wise old eagle named Kevin Siembeda flew to the top of his bookshelf and urinated on his copy of the youtube TOS, and the whole party clapped.
I always found it weird that D&D was maligned as witchcraft, satanism, and anti-social. From what I can tell, TTRPGs just increase sociability, problem solving, conscientiousness, and probably improves self-concept through skills and self-esteem. Did any anons here live through Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons or the Satanic Panic? Sorry if this is boring or repetitive to others, but I want to study the social aspects of TTRPGs and how it exists as a subculture. I think, by and large, this is the best board on 4chan because people really care about this hobby and want to help others get into it. Despite the shitposting, I think the community is vibrant and the games I played through Find a Game threads were all filled with genuine, nice people. So it irks me that the Satanic Panic tried to paint subcultures as evil. Maybe it's because people think TTRPGs overlap with extreme music or just teenage entertainment in general.
>>97177074Don't forget the retards who told a story to kids, then had the kids embellish and tell the story back to them about the caregivers at their daycare murdering children and flying across the country on brooms to dispose of the bodies. Those people who ran the daycare STILL get random death-threats 40 years later. And it was the foundation of a lot of the Panic's narative about 'satanists hiding in suburbs'.
>>97178055The daycare panic started with a woman with literal schizophrenia who then died so no one could realize it was schizoid non-sense
>>97176749>But I just find moralising over a fantasy TTRPG absurdly funnyThis isn't happening, that was fucking 40 years agoCan't you find something in 2025 to be righteous about? It's really cool that you want people to praise your moral values, but saying "boy those people burning witches 1000 years ago were WRONG! Isn't it wrong?" Is retardedPick some real moral battles of today, that can be contested, instead of picking moral winning sides from 40 years ago that nobody disgrees with
>>97176942This.>>97177266lol, that's rich coming from an elfgames player
>>97176699Remember this was 40 years ago. Even the core of elder Millennials who still browse this board were babies or not born yet. And in hindsight I can feel bad for some dumb housewife looking for answers after her son blew his brains out. And weirdly enough there's a lot of interesting rabbitholes you can go down with regards to satanism. The Finders being stumbled upon by a Florida detective and a customs guy and the feds burying the case. The army's top psychological warfare expert being high priest of the Temple of Set. The Moloch statue in Bohemian Grove. Epstein island. Horrible occult murders(Elyse Pahler, the Nightstalker in LA, etc). I'm not necessarily implying a conspiracy, but it is interesting how Evangelical dorks always crop up make anyone concerned about the occult look ridiculous by picking random pop culture shit to tilt at (DnD, Pokemon, Taylor Swift, etc).
