In the context of mtg these effects limit deck building which is the point of the game imo.
I assume deck building practices and expectations are different here because it's a different game.

I haven't played a league myself but I would imagine the earlier you get into it, the more likely you are to find people trying diverse stuff since all the new players want to check out the new format on the client
league results don't paint an accurate picture anymore ever since they went back to only showing the curated lists

Even the vintage cube sucks ass now. I'd love to play the holiday cube V1 in paper but sadly I lack a spare $100k. How do you even design a fun cube with recently released cards? Everytime I try it, I feel like it's impossible to design for strategies that aren't just creature based value decks. When I try to avoid that, I feel like I end with almost all common creatures and the most powerful non-creatures and it just feels weird.
>>
>>97181291
The trick is to make a time spiral block cube and then you can have fun.
>>
>>97181291
>with recently released cards
You don't
You make a fun cube by limiting it to cards that have pre m15 frame (the imbalanced one with the fucked up borders and the holostamp on rares/mythics) printings only

People should do exactly what I say at all times regardless if it's effective or not, and I'll change the OP rules to suit my desires. Character sheets MANDATORY

I'm being sarcastic anon, obviously it would be an easily circumvented and pointless thing to suggest.
>>
Using "sheets" or whatever is useless, you just need to go by instinct. Look at the request and think, "Is this an actual character someone could use"?

I'd go pointing out examples I don't but then it would look like I'm just trying to falseflag for a response
>>
>>97181277
and even then instinct could be wrong from time to time. given the nature of the internet (and even more so this site) it's practically impossible to be sure.

How about we post our requests and let the artists decide if they find it interesting enough to draw? The rest of us beggars can STFU in the meantime.
>>
>>97181623
Nah, I think I'd like to keep talking about which requests are good (mine) and which are objectively shit and awful (everyone else's) for another 20 or so posts till we start to autosage

They are common because they are the easiest way to use specifically geared models that you probably wouldn't be able to otherwise. Yes it can be easy to power game with them but it isn't like that is a problem unique to them. Enforcers were always popular but were stuck with either having to use specific campaign structure or the Badlands list, so it isn't really surprising they have blown up in popularity again with their recent release fitting them into normal gang structure.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often does Bulk come up in your games? What do you do to make it interesting?

The axe causes more HP loss to most opponents, although there is a 'sweet spot' of DR which is just enough to stop the axe and not quite enough to handle the mace.
But this is mostly irrelevant in practice! When you can casually cripple limbs and cause major wounds even to HP 30+ opponents, you don't typically have to worry about whittling their HP down. One or two hits ends a fight, regardless of exactly how much injury you cause. Getting hits at all is far more important than DPS.
>>
>>97181147
If all you care about is being the most effective fighter build at a given points value, then choose katana, edged rapier, quarterstaff, or duelling halberd. Those are the top tier of melee weapons. Quibbling about whether one sub-optimal choice is 10% better than another is a waste of time.
If you want to be a big strong guy who smashes people with a mace, then you're not making an optimal fighter build. Tough shit, it just isn't. But you can still have a great time! You will still be effective if you play smart, and have a few tricks which work well with the build, either taking advantage of its strengths or compensating for its weaknesses. At the end of the day, good tactics and luck will determine the outcome of more fights than the specific details of your build and exactly how close to optimal performance you are.
>>
>>97181105
>Don't forget weapon breakage rules. A 1.5 lbs. weapon risks breaking every time it parries a 5 lbs. mace. Against an 11.25 lbs. super-sized mace, that increases to 3.75 lbs. which included broadswords in the at risk category.
Did anyone come up with a better system for blowing through parries. I don't mean like exploding swords that try to parry you, I mean just a parry being insufficient to fully stop (or even stop any damage) that's incoming. Feels weird it's so binary that you either have an enormously heavy weapon that can explode whatever tries to stop you, or your opponent can parry it no problem.
>>
>>97181147
When you have such enormous strength the cutting modifier is basically irrelevant.
>>
>>97181370
The Broken Blade (Pyramid vol. 3 iss. 87 p. 4) replaces the 1d weapon-breakage roll with a more complicated system based on rolling vs. the parrying weapon's HT.
A beat (Martial Arts p. 100) is a ST-based feint that an attacker can use to knock his enemy's parrying weapon out of position.

Why is it that so many fantasy writers make their evil cults unjoinable by anyone with a functioning brain cell? Like why would you worship Orcus, whose goal is omnicide? Why would you worship Tzeentch if he’s probably gonna screw YOU over as part of his grand plan?

What makes it so bizarre to me is that, firstly, it’s not like they need to be so off-putting to be evil. Orcus is a demon of undeath, his followers want to turn their enemies into the undead. Tzeentch wants the world to be in a constant cycle of chaos, his followers are gonna be masterminding world wars.

Secondly, it’s not like we don’t have plenty of examples of real-world evil cults. A lot of cults in the West don’t follow Super-Duper-Mega-Murder Satan, but are fucked-up offshoots of Christianity. Historically, goetia was practiced by people who would’ve still called themselves Christians, while committing rituals to summon and get boons from demons. Plenty of human cultures used to sacrifice humans to their gods, not to summon them to kill everyone or some shit, but to honor and/or appease them.

Like to use another example from Warhammer, I think Nurgle and Khorne present more “approachable” evil cults. Nurgle is toxic positivity, and his love will take all the pain away. Khorne is wrapped up in enough language about honor to lure people in.

Like to rework an evil deity, let’s pick Lamashtu. Instead of “We love ugliness and miscarriages and also you get to die in childbirth”, the cult targets vulnerable young women and lures them in with divine feminine language (“You have the power to bear and raise great beasts”), while promising the young men of monstrous races frustrated living among humans that what they’re scorned for is what makes them powerful (and also they get to have sex with pretty girls).

No, you wouldn't see Karl Marx likes in feudal fantasy. Marxism is a mentality created by the urban middle class that can only exist in an industrialized world.

>Dude. You want something impossible.
What *I* want is not impossible though. Heavy Object exists and does what *I* want perfectly. It provides a concise breakdown of why the HO is a great weapon and demonstrates this through its dominance while also simultaneously having drawbacks that allow foot soldiers the capabilities of capitalizing on the flaws of the system.

What YOU think I want seems to be based off of some obvious ghost you're fighting that I can't even begin to delineate where it begins, because it seems like you think I want real life to actually build a mecha and you are carrying the unfortunate weight of knowing that it will never be, so it seems you want to gravitate towards 50 foot super heroes in plate armor. Which, okay, but I don't care about this ghost you're fighting nor did I ever. I just want shit that can demonstrate the weight and feel of a mech as to not make them limp and impotent.

I always found it weird that D&D was maligned as witchcraft, satanism, and anti-social. From what I can tell, TTRPGs just increase sociability, problem solving, conscientiousness, and probably improves self-concept through skills and self-esteem. Did any anons here live through Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons or the Satanic Panic? Sorry if this is boring or repetitive to others, but I want to study the social aspects of TTRPGs and how it exists as a subculture. I think, by and large, this is the best board on 4chan because people really care about this hobby and want to help others get into it. Despite the shitposting, I think the community is vibrant and the games I played through Find a Game threads were all filled with genuine, nice people. So it irks me that the Satanic Panic tried to paint subcultures as evil. Maybe it's because people think TTRPGs overlap with extreme music or just teenage entertainment in general.

You're projecting. When a game comes out that appeals to the trannies you hate, you're the one seething, not them.
If you had your way, you would make it so that those games don't exist at all. As is, you merely bitch about their existence... Kind of like the religious nuts that tried killing D&D!

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Bro why are you so mad multiple people have given you multiple viable options to handle your question? You get some choice advice and yet you still find the need to complain about... getting more than one response? Is that really worth a tantrum?

Oh right, so what's your complain then? Than nobody cared about your reply and indtead I focused on another solution? Are you seriously begging for attention this hard?

I got my nephews and niece the rerelease of Heroquest. They're always asking if I want to come over and run a dungeon with them. It's fun.
