The DM reveals that all this time, the 'Chaotic Evil invading soldiers' you've been fighting and slaughtering were actually Lawful Good innocent untrained peasants. They were tricked/convinced into believing they were fighting for survival and defense of their impoverished homeland.

THE PALADIN FALLS AND LOSES ALL POWERS!!!

Do you feel like a hero yet?
>>

>>
>>97252494
Most soldiers believe they are doing shit for the good of their nation and/or are just following orders that they will be killed for disobeying.
>THE PALADIN FALLS

That's retarded. If the paladin believes his actions were in keeping with his oath at the time, he won't fall because he was misled.

Alternatively, if the killing of the opposing side was all it took before divine forces yeeted the paladin juice out of him, then he would have fallen the second he killed the first swinging dick he fought.
>>
>>97252494
If the paladin is slaughtering people before bothering to look into it, he deserves to fall. Just because you lack morals doesn't mean a paragon of good should.

Neither, my system (Modern/Contemporary fantasy) has a dedicated marksmanship stat which is tied to firearms, bows, crossbows as well as general perceptiveness, more influenced by your Skill investments than your stats.

Melee Weapons, Thrown Weapons, and Explosives are tied to Strength, and melee/thrown weapons get to add their associated Skill Ranks (up to 5) to the Damage they deal (max 2d6), while Ranged Weapons do not without specific character options.

What are the options?

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?

>"ok, that's over, go back to being a wagie now."
Not even that, but Japan loves it when everything you did was ultimately meaningless in the end and changed nothing. The status quo resets to usual. All endings must end in nothing happening. Nothing ever happens or matters. The entire story can be about fighting gods and the entire universe being deleted but by the end of it you'll be back in modern day Tokyo with no one knowing anything happened or giving a shit because none of it really mattered. Except you remember it because your MC lost something because Japan always twists the knife one final time to fuck you over.
>>97252525
>I thought gachas don't have endings
There's a main story that constantly got updates and new main story sequences and parts as the game went on for 10 years now, but the main story is finally complete. The gacha part is still there and I think it's still going to continue but just without the main plot. So it's now a "complete" game experience and what'll cycle through now is monthly gacha repeats of prior swimsuit events and such.

Isn't that even more typical of American fiction? When I think of pop media with "all humans die" and close endings, it's all jap works. Land of the Lustrous, Saya no Uta, Girls' Last Tour, Fire Punch, End of Evangelion, Shadow Star...

You're supposed to be doing that anyway, you're a protagonist aren't you anon? Think of the hypothetical fans reading your hypothetical story, you don't want to feed them boring slop about how you stayed in a cave for 100 000 000 years until you went up one minor realm, right anon?

>Halflings to do the farming
>Dwarves to do the smithing and mining
>Gnomes to do the researching

This seems the obvious perfect order to things. Humans don't want to be the peasant farmers, we want to be the knights and lords, but somebody has to farm, somebody has to smith, etc. Why not have the other races do the menial peasant stuff that they specialize in anyways?

There was a Pokemon fangame from an essentials game jam called Pokemon Bushido that was popular enough for youtubers to play it for ad revenue. Could be that.
There are also some fake "pokemon" mobile games that use ads that look like Pokemon even when the actual game is anything but. There were ads for a game that looked like an insane mix of Pokemon and Omori that were so sick but the actual game was just mobile gacha slop completely unrelated to the ads.

TTRPGs are a social game first and foremost. That means there's unspoken rules that vary from group-to-group, but a common one is "acceptable breaks from sensibility" in the name of game experience or table cohesion. It's the kind of thing that keeps the bitter rivalry between the Elf and the Dwarf largely to amusing banter and not outright PvP. It's an innate instinct: nobody likes to spoil the atmosphere, because that's a large part of the appeal of a good game (alongside the freedom).

That being said, there are also times when the group's course of action is patently retarded and you can't meaningfully push back on it without feeling like you'd cause a big fight over nothing (and then feel obligated to keep comrades away from the consequences), or something a character cannot abide has to be "sanded over" somewhat, or you as the GM don't want to cultivate the feeling that you're antagonizing your players by hitting them over the head with "you murdered someone because it was convenient and didn't even take measures to cover your tracks" or whatever unhinged misadventure occurred because something about the player position of the table cause human beings to lose IQ.

Have you ever had that feeling? I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common.

Ive had to deal with GM retardation more often.
>Muh story
Bro, the story is a collective creation. If you want the characters to do exactly what you want, write a book.

I'll never get over succeeding at all three tries in a VtM game where I was hacking into a door, only for the GM to then say
>haha the alarm starts resounding and you have been found out
That's not what hacking or success means
>>
>>97242742
I remember them.
They were kinda cute when they had the boyfriend/girlfriend thing going on.
But James and "GuardBro" are pretty unfunny/uninteresting, and farming /tg/ for content and recycling old 1d4chan pages was always like gleaning leftovers from the bottom of a bust-open septic tank.

Still better than reading verbatim from Lexicanum mind, like some "Loretubers" I could name.
>>
Consequences. Actual Consequences
>>
>>97228087
I tell my players what their characters ought to know or be able to intuit about the situation, which usually curbs their retardation. 9/10 times, stupid decisions are due to misunderstandings or a lack of information on the part of the party.

Assuming you can only make surface level opinions without experience is itself a surface level opinion. Also, assuming that it's silly to discuss TTRPG mechanics is also shallow. You're a shallow guy.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/@DingoDoodles
>>
>>97249098
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that he only produces quicker reviews of games, but extended time playing a system gives you more insight into it. More time with different mechanics and maybe a chance to understand something that wasn't immediately apparent from a quick read-through. For some people, that weakens the value of his opinions.

In-depth review is not unthinkable, but it IS silly because TTRPGs are not reviewable in the same way that video games are. There's no fixed scenario or repeatable scenario, unless you're reviewing a module or campaign, but that's different than doing a thorough exploration of every mechanic and rule in the game. It would very rapidly get redundant and many things would get qualified as "depending on how things go at your table" or whatever. In any case, you don't click on a 5 minute video expecting the reviewer to exhaustively pick apart every page and every edge case and contingent possibility. Broad strokes and specific examples where necessary can get the job done with far less wasted time.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Tomb is a pretty memey module to run at a con because it was meant as a high-skill, high difficulty module even in the (much more old-D&D-focused) environment it was written for. I'd do G1 or something. Anon's suggestion of Tamoachan isn't bad either.
