Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128>Need a starter dungeon? I wanted to say thanks to anyone who helped me with some questions about mutant future and labyrinth lord in a previous thread. I now had a question about some supplements. I heard that apes victorious added some neat stuff for mutant future by some people, but I also heard that it actually is a bit harder to convert to mutant future and does not add much. Does anyone know if that is the case? Some of the powers sound neat, and my players want to use more offensive mental abilities. Are the psi powers vs mental mutations just different names? How is the advanced mutant companion? I know it is made by someone other than goblinoid games, so I was wondering if it added a lot of neat options without changing the core game. It looks like it adds feats and skills which seems to go against the grain. Another book that looked better in my opinion was creatures of the tropical wastes.

>>97352307Its been a while since Ive read the handlers guide, but didn't the destruction of MJ12 fuck their mass surveillance capabilities?
>>97352374All Flesh Must Be Eaten. the real answer is just about any horror game you can run with humans that is relatively lethal would work for the mist. I'm just throwing out one that doesn't get as much love. But Call of Cthulhu or Fear Itself or, hell, even baseline WoD would probably work just as well.
>>97353289I sometimes skim the HG, I remember the ayytech shut off right after the MiGo got scared and fucked off, and most MJ12 tech was based off that, but Observer Effect contradicts that pretty blatantly. If MJ12's mass-surveillance tech was partially in-house and not just them entirely relying on the greys' Report, they may have their own version of PRISM that was running on the same shit as what was in Observer Effect that the Program has themselves now, and March might have a knockoff ofEven if they don't have a greytech PRISM serverfarm running, the KIY part of the setting mentions "subroutines" running on automated USG servers on DG's authority to watch the internet and USG intranets for signs of Yellow, and GT directly states Conradin's network got flagged internally by similar shit in the 00's after DG pushed their own tracking-software into Patriot Act systems
>>97353289they use 'a program algorithm flagged such-and-such' as part of the hook fairly often from what i recall, they're at the least on par with irl data snooping surveillance capabilities and probably beyond it. suspicious location updates from a random smartwatch is used in one, iirc.
>>97351811Yeah it's hard to make it fun when a lot of it seems actually reasonable. I think the best way would be to give it some wild ass explanation, like what if RFK jr's brain worm is actually some eldritch alien parasite controlling his brain seeking to make humanity less healthy for easier control of the population idk, maybe relate it to your favorite deity who knows. There's a lot of wild ass old alien conspiracies that could be adapted to modern times if creative enough, or fuck it take inspo from current horror games and make a FNAF pastiche and relate it to the food industry, have the animatronics be possesed by ghouls or the Mi-Go or something. Ngl all of this really reminds me of that one anon who came up with a rap-focused CoC scenario where the rap industry was actually controlled by a cult of Tsathoggua who were given magic by him to make their music more popular, that could also fit well nowadays with modern controversies like the Diddy parties. My point is you can perfectly do modern conspiracies fun you just gotta go wild with it.

A Deceiver shard disguised as Trazyn the Infinite lured the kill-team and an Imperial task force to a rival dynasty's tomb world under the pretense that they could find valuable pylon components to send to Cadia. In truth, the Imperial force was a distraction to draw away the Necron occupants and the Eldar keeping the world quarantined, while the Deceiver got to work on unshackling the Nightbringer shard buried within.
>>97351910Oh, look, an utter lack of defense for your prior statements. That couldn't possibly be because you're just trying to get a rise out of folks - it's not as if you've been abandoning your position in favor of an at best tangentially related one every single post, or anything silly like that.>>97349937>The FunnyThis is some serious goofball shit, which could work great in a goofball group - basically, know your audience. Personally I could see it as a fun one-shot or very short arc, perhaps even as a very occasional recurring NPC. I think it'd wear on me if it was the whole campaign, though. You don't want the joke to get stale. Again, highly audience-dependent.>The VillainsClassic, there's a lot of ways this could go. Road to hell like anon mentioned, where they can act to the highest moral standard they like - but, if they do things the easy way (just this once, we swear!) they gain power, or persuasion, or evasion, or some tangible benefit that just barely pushes them over the edge to success - but it's always at a cost. Hand out tiny little faustian bargains like candy. If they don't take them, what's the harm? The offer's there. The offer is ALWAYS there. For every boon they accept, maybe they take -5 to Willpower saves against one specific daemon (a surprise tool to help us later), or maybe one of their subfaction slips just a tiny bit further away from the so-named positive aspects of their god. You've got a lump of grease in that skull of yours, I'm sure you can figure out something more narratively compelling than I.
Are there any deep, dark, secret communities out there that play Black Crusade? I've always wanted to play a cackling villain, but I never see any campaigns anywhere.
>>97355091Black Crusade's hard to get a group together for, because most people who actively seek out Black Crusade games approach it in much the same manner as avid FATAL players. It's not impossible, mind you, hell, I have a buddy who just wants a satisfying narrative conclusion for his Warpsmith, but a lot of folks are just skeevy little shitters from the depths of every horror gametale you've ever read.

I think the truth is more pathetic, though. The mod is mad that he's being "told what to do" and is actively allowing spamming so people correctly trying to get this idiot gone don't "win."
>>97354029So answer the question based on all of them. For mentally and intellectually well adjusted that shouldn't be hard to figure out.
>>97353397Money and magical aptitude are inherited. If your parents are rich, then they can afford magic tutoring. And if they were able to learn magic, then chances are that you'll have a knack for magic too.
>>97353397Wizards go around towns and villages casting Divination spells to locate fetuses destined to become wizards. They weave enchantments to enter strangers' homes without causing concern and whisper to the bellies of pregnant women who carry their future apprentices. The wizards probably also fuck the pregnant women while the husbands are forced to watch, and end up molesting the apprentices too, but that's incidental.
>>97355370It started interesting but you're just a freak. I hope you never actually play a game.

Is anyone else far more interested in hearing more of Katsuhiro's story than whatever Dorn and Guilliman are doing during the scouring? I want more lore focused on the everyday mortals of the imperium.
>>97352628You want to hear more about an advert designed to boost the sale of a product? Why not make it up a story in your head, like they do? They will make up shit to sell their stuff, then retcon it to sell another bunch of stuff. None of it is real anon. It can be whatever you want it to be.

>>97354764> Canonically Jabba has a presence there because Gardulla (the female Hutt you can see behind Jabba in TPM) created the Boonta Eve on Tatooine using Damask's money in order to slowly try and gain power from under Jabba's influence,Well that, and I thought I remember reading somewhere that Jabba also wasn’t exactly “welcome” in polite Hutt society… I think he had a reputation for being more lecherous and deviant than was considered socially acceptable within Hutt society.
>>97353801Don't bother, this freaking weirdo has been at this for over a decade, he was on /co/ back on the day forcing this slop
>>97354683obviously the out of setting reason is that people are monkeys and will always go back to whats familiar. Full on membah berries more often than not. Also I half doubt most events regarding tatooine are even recorded anywhere. 'oh revan put a star map on tatooine? if you say so'
>>97353960Tatooine's importance makes sense in the Lucas filmsIt doesn't in other media
>>97354683I suppose Tatooine appears more prominent to us because how often it shows up in secondary media due to OT nostalgia, but in-universe there's stuff constantly happening on thousands of other planets as well but we don't get to see it. Most of the times Tatooine appears and isn't directly related to the Skywalkers it's some variation of "some dude went there and shot some sand people and stuff while on some mission", which isn't something that would really catch the galaxy's attention. One of the Rakaata star maps was there in KOTOR, but there were some on other planets there so that isn't an exclusive Tatooine thing.
I’ve started a fanfiction based on this image. In it Settra the Imperishable got his last living descendant magically summon to his capital. I’m looking for something good to read that gives more insight into Settra beyond his most memorable moments—something that shows what he enjoys, his future plans for his people, how he interacts with the living, and his broader goals. I know High Queen Khalida appears in *Gotrek and Felix*, and got an amount of living followers who serve her, but I’d like a better sense of Settra’s character outside of emergencies or badass situations, like when someone steals his hat and he chases it even into the Frozen North. And yes I'm ready for Warhammer the old world in order to get a better grip on the guy.Serious I'm ready to read anything novels Army books campaign books whatever to get a better sense of him along with Herald Nekaph as a person..
>>97351257Who is the last 'living' descendent based on this image? Because the girl has Vampire Fangs, so I'm doubting she's living at all. Plus I'm sure that Settra was probably a Genghis Khan type event on the gene pool in his time, so there's probably thousands of descendent lines. So I will name instead Herr Seth Unvergänglich, a merchant grocer of Nuln who specialises in 'soll-grown' produce of exceptional quality and longevity.
>>97351817Talking about a guy who became a mage not because it was natural to his family or he was born with such abilities but because he was pissed off other people could do stuff he could not.>>97352203 Don't forget in the early stages of he just became king Settra sacrifice his children to the Gods that he had at that point and his dynasty didn't survive two generations at the he died in charge of the what he control also most people who might have been his Descendants on now Probably Rank and file people of the Tomb Kings I have been flushed out his last living descendants full back sorry but he wasn't implied to have Jest a whole bunch of kids all over the place. So I'm going with can you Jews after the great Necromancer there wasn't many of his descendants left.
