It's kinda sad the current waste potential of the game's lore. Ok, got it, devs are aiming for a mudcore between the classical factions of the abrahamic religions. But imagine how could would be adding an "Interpretatio Graeco-Romana" to them (I mean, right now Irish pagans exist in the lore as good guys). Example: Beelzebub>for abrahamics >the "lord of flies" >the second after Satan (Ares? (Satan - adversary in hebrew; Ares - ruin, curse in doric)>lord of Ekron, destroyer of Avignon>creator of plagues>for his followers> Ba’al Zebûl, "Lord of the Heavenly Dwelling">Zeus Myiagros, protector against plagues and flies, patron of doctors and cures>Greco-Roman God or eu-demon ("good spirit")Comment too long. Is there a super system that is purpose built to integrate RPG scale, Skirmish, scale and wargame scale scenarios into one campaign?I think that would be pretty epic. You might first go on an rpg party scale infiltration mission to get some kind of advantage for the next session that is a wargame, where if you succeeded, maybe you can hide a unit anywhere on the tabletop.I think I heard people saying that it was kind of attempted in some Old DnD releases and ACKS, but it never seems to really be all that focused on or displayed in action much.Would totally be a niche gameplay style that would require a group both up for rpg's and wargames, but I think it could be pretty epic.
>>97177871No, they're both pretty much shit that you can only excuse because they came from a time before people knew better.

>>97177871It's a bit of an ironic claim when we are discussing a campaign I ran between few different systems. And yes I have played DnD, both new and old, and oldest editions were....not good, because ya, good shit came out after they were made, first ones were terrible.

>>97177787True, we actually kept calling the expansion "prelude". I only now notice I have no idea what it's really called. Of course it's not a new idea, but I still find it refreshing, expansions usually tend to be relatively bloat-y and make games longer and more complex. Which is also fine, but if SETI took +3,5h I'd not touch it again
>>97177787>>97177874Deeply dislike how modern boardgame design in in a state where games are just inefficient math puzzles. Bloated and can have gimmicky stuff like manipulating starting resources or cutting turns off and the game isnt losing charm or theme or joy or just noticeable different because it is functionally pointslop with window dressing and nothing really matters.I love the idea of seti but then I read the rules and watched gameplay and its pure soulless shit and I hate that because I wanted to love it so much
>>97176650Yeah, I understood most of this from my plays. Still found it to be boring. I particularly disliked the deployment rounds where only one player can see what the other has drafted for the wave. Also, the ending without instant victory feels kinda lame because it's based on source and upgrades essentially. You just made me realize why I think it's boring. Denial of source is almost the primary goal and results in many units being terrible as a consequence. Game of chicken instead of an interesting battlefield.
>>97177942I loved the idea of SETI until I found out you always find a bunch of actual aliens.
>>97177942I think efficiency puzzles, even if solitaire-ish, have their place and can be fun. Feld can do this very well, Marrakesh is great and has an almost addicting quality to it, despite being very much textbook slop. What irks me is the sheer volume of slop-y euros, most of them not even well designed. SETI gets away with it, despite my disliking it because it's just so goddamn sleek and well-rounded. Just a good design. Stuff like the aformentioned Minos is good for probably 2 games before the design mistakes become too much. A lot of these type of games come out either>too sterilethe design tries its best to make you blind to the fact every action nets you 1-3 vp and the winner got 3 per action the most often>Unbalancedjust using your available actions in area A gives out the best vp per action, rendering the rest of the game a bit moot>UnderdevelopedLike the example I keep quoting, giving an already AP-inducing game like minos a structure in which you can't plan your full turn ahead in the significant downtime, but must wait for a lot of decisions until in the midst of your turn and only THEN can you start to ponder. This is a waste of everyone's time and I hate it.

Sorry for effortposting your Friday1. What systems have you found that have made combat engaging?2. What do you think is a satisfying duration for most fights? Over quickly? Or minimal resolution (followed by optional exposition)3. Do you find a sort of "bidding" of dice (such as in Riddle of Steel and her derivatives) fun? Or do you prefer the dice that you roll to be fairly consistent/static in their outcomes?4. Do you find "maneuvers"- like in Mythras- fun? Do you find that tracking a number of maneuvers grinds combat resolution down too slowly? What about a sort of freeform ability to spend "bonus success" on maneuvers (sort of "fiction first")?I'm thinking about my system. It's very inspired by Mythras, Forbidden Lands, and Riddle of Steel but I'm unsatisfied with it. I'd like to really look at the fundamentals- the statistics, the base mechanics, the speed of resolving each round- before tacking on additional details. Right now, I have attacker declaring an attack and defender declaring a reaction (dodge, parry, or block with shield), rolling a dice pool (attribute+professional rank+gear bonus) and comparing successes. Extra successes are spent on dealing more damage or performing maneuvers. I'm curious if anyone here has experiences in systems that they've found particularly fun, fast, engaging, and place a lot of decision pressure on the player (to replicate- in a way- the stress of combat)
>>97177468brevity is the soul of wit
>>97173111>Situations like this seem to strongly favor aiming and shooting, right? Really reward being in a prepared position.Eh, it depends. You want to avoid having to waste your turn moving (characters move microscopic distances unless you spend your whole turn running) instead of accomplishing something, so being in a good position is nice and all, but usually the only difference is if you're not, you waste one turn getting into position and then you stay there. Cover usually either makes you invulnerable (cover values are ridiculously high) or is useless, if the enemy has melee, area effect or full auto weapons.>I love that they make ammo rare or expensive.Again, eh. Laser weapons can be recharged, and you'll probably be able to buy or loot enough regular ammo that you can full auto forever without worry, unless your puts a lot of work into being stingy. The actually expensive ammo is almost never worth it until you hit the big leagues.
>>97177477I hope you know that was said by the buffoon character in the play.
>>97177554Hamlet is indeed a comedy.
>>97176938NTA, but that sounds like a flaw, just a different one: You need a player that is pretty good with the system, to simulate a character that is pretty good with a weapon. System mastery is just too powerful, and can let weak characters win Vs more powerful foes. That's fun when it's done on the player's side, and/or his actions make the opponent fight stupidly, but a low skill player won't have as much fun, and will be completely left out of the whole mind game dimension of the system.

Why was XP for gold largely abandoned as a way to reward players?
>>97178141Pure hyperbole, it's not like GURPS has a single concrete method for awarding character points, and yet there's a pretty substantial number of rules
>>97178147The DM doesn't have to make up a lot of stuff in GURPS in general, though.
>>97178159You'd be surprised
>>97161391I've been doing it in my campaign and I'll tell you the reason: you need gold sinks or gold becomes meaningless with the amount of XP people need to level up. It also creates kind of a narrative dissonance between people sitting on literal fortunes and staying at a tavern or something. I'd say you almost wanna look to Cyberpunk as inspiration; the same way mercs spend their eddies can work for mercenaries spending their ducats.
>>97172249>not sure why you're being such a weirdo about this.Because like pretty much every tranny that has abandoned his masculinity, he doesn't understand the concept of wanting to go *do* things for greater concepts like building a life, a home, meeting new people, traveling new worlds, and seeking that sense of fulfillment that a man uniquely gets from exploration and adventure. Instead, he wants to sit around, be affirmed that he made the right choices, and show off his "intelligence" by making quirky quips and characters centered entirely around a retarded pun they thought up.It's a shame these ugly freaks don't understand this and revert back to the men they are. They'll never understand why it feels amazing to do these "random" stuff that wound up building up an entire castle town from the ground up by your own hand, and why that matters to a man's soul. Shame.

Fuck off faggot go content farm somewhere else.I'm sure there's a bunch of stories you can steal off Reddit.
My players just convinced an evil master of a thieves' guild to help save their (the players') boss. The master was hesitant but in the end she agreed.
There was an evil orc content miner menacing a small village, taking all their myths and legends and passing them off as his own in the orc kingdom. Our bard composed an epic tune that boasted of all the human children he had diddled and when the orc took it without thinking, the very next day the King's men came and took him away in a wagon. Then a wise old eagle named Kevin Siembeda flew to the top of his bookshelf and urinated on his copy of the youtube TOS, and the whole party clapped.
>>97177594No actual games, but I've had a blast coming up with different playtests for mechanics I want to include in my first finished project.I've spent hours alone on various map generators, and it's been cool to see what sorts of shapes and features result from various iterations of the generation mechanics.I'm looking forward to when I can include my combat system into a finished map system, because it's going to have more tactical depth than the one I've been using.
Ran a game with some old friends.A librarian who's solu has been crushed by beurocracy, a raised-by-wolves axe murderer, and an unemployed meth head made their way through WWI style trenches to try and disarm a series of artillery guns belonging to an army of 25 foot tall Dutchmen.I run very silly games, but I haven't had a single complaint yet.
GW kept mentioning space marines or even primarchs coupling with regular human women and it always took me out of it. Like how the fuck? Wouldn't she get ripped in half? But then it dawned on me. They just have tiny penises. Well not by human standards, but relative to body-size. Like think about it, why would you supersize the dick too when there literally do not exist women big enough to handle that size? So the simplest explanation is they just keep the penis size of a regular human.

>>97178239I think the maneuverability of the mechs in Code Geass is okay, especially when the "most anime shit" comes from the literal best pilots in the setting, but it does in fact go to BEYOND ABYSMAL DOGSHIT territory when they get flight units and it becomes Gundam SEED. Every time the mechs aren't flying, the fight choreography actually exists and looks cool
>>97178255To be fair I think the authors tried to show how the knightmare tech progresses through the war. From down to earth landbased machines, to way more powerful prototypes that won't be out of place in Armored Core, even if as starting frames, to outright flying gundam like machines. And, frankly, I'd say they succeeded in that, but the choreography of fights suffer for it with animators/directors being way better at doing more grounded combat.
>>97178239>Peter's necessity to engineer web canistersThis is a good example because organic web shooters were such a natural fit for the character that they've basically become the status quo and been sort of retconned as the default option in most cases. It doesn't make much sense, but it thematically suits much better than "oh and yeah I guess he's also a super-scientist who made this incredibly amazing compound and deployment system but he never sells it or anything". Sometimes the choice that makes less sense, makes more sense.
You know I'm talking to you so I'm just going to keep it simple instead of quoting every single post you've madeDude. You want something impossible. You want "mechs that feel superior to vehicles" but also they "have WEIGHT and FEEL" (I hate this fucking phrase so much) but also "they're not a power fantasy!" but also "it's realistic and scientific"-Stop.In Mobile Suit Gundam, the Mobile Suits have a REASONABLE train of thought: There are other military vehicles, but a very efficient fusion generator emits a particle that scrambles radar and visuals and makes encounters take place in closer ranges; In space, limbs can be used to create rotational energy (which is the AMBAC system); Zeon's top brass is a bunch of fascists so they prefer aesthetics that makes their enemies afraid; Zeon develops huge humanoid machines that use the fusion generator and that means they need to fight in close range; Mobile Suits are used everywhere due to their mobility and versatility. and their legs also allow them to operate in colonies with artificial gravity and even planet-side.Do you see the "reasonable" line of thought there? Your average sci-fi nerd isn't going to care that much since a lot of the justifications do in fact make a bit of sense. If you DO in fact analyze each part with a fine comb, there will be cracks, BUT it's okay because it leads to a good story. What you're asking is practically impossible because we have dozens of real life reasons that make mecha impractical and have disadvantages against normal military vehicles and weaponry, AND you're also asking for them to be more grounded and "weighty". This doesn't fucking reasonably work. There is no writer besides the most glazeful autist that will write something like that and not see the obvious fucking problems. You need a line that its okay to break. Alternatively you can play Ring Of Red for the PS2 and realize how what you're asking makes no fucking sense.
>>97178308>but it thematically suits much better than "oh and yeah I guess he's also a super-scientist who made this incredibly amazing compound and deployment system but he never sells it or anything".It actually doesn't, considering that Peter is an engineering student in a super science program under Doc Oc. But whatever, I'm not really here to discuss cape slop.>>97178313>Dude. You want something impossible. What *I* want is not impossible though. Heavy Object exists and does what *I* want perfectly. It provides a concise breakdown of why the HO is a great weapon and demonstrates this through its dominance while also simultaneously having drawbacks that allow foot soldiers the capabilities of capitalizing on the flaws of the system. What YOU think I want seems to be based off of some obvious ghost you're fighting that I can't even begin to delineate where it begins, because it seems like you think I want real life to actually build a mecha and you are carrying the unfortunate weight of knowing that it will never be, so it seems you want to gravitate towards 50 foot super heroes in plate armor. Which, okay, but I don't care about this ghost you're fighting nor did I ever. I just want shit that can demonstrate the weight and feel of a mech as to not make them limp and impotent.
