After Charles Dance dies, the film loses its only spark of interest and collapses into a series of uninspired chases, where similar looking bald men run down similar looking corridors and a shit-looking CG alien is occasionally glimpsed. There is nothing exciting, scary, or meaningful about these scenes. They could have been compressed into a brief Benny Hill montage without removing anything of importance from the film. What's more, none of these secondary characters are able to elicit our concern. 85, the comic relief warden, the "rapist of women", and the various other bozos. Who gives a fuck about THEM? The first film had relatable ordinary characters; the second relied more on broad archetypes, but they were colourful, quotable, and identifiable. I cared about the fates of the people in the first two films. I reacted to the deaths of the Alien 3 baldies with total indifference.
