So in some sense it's "tryhard" if by that they mean they present you with difficult but fair challenges. There's basically no run backs against bosses so there's very little punishment for failure. Worst case scenario is sometimes when you die, instead of your gold and exp just being at the spot for you to pick up, you must kill the enemy who killed you. But bosses will never do that. I like ds1 cause its simple like an old arcade game. A bunch of dudes with swords in a castle and ya gotta get to the next checkpoint.
