What's/vr/s general opinion on the puzzle genre? I just recently discovered that people typically hate slide puzzles and i enjoy them. Also, puzzle genre general i guess. Lolo and kablooey are really fun.

The Bombing Islands on PS1 is a good one that doesn't get talked about much. Starring Kid Klown. It's a little slow but the puzzles are of pretty good quality.

Stop That Roach is entirely turn-based, no timer, I think you just have a limited amount of steps/turns to complete each puzzle.
Klotski is a simple block moving puzzle game for Win3.x, there is a timer but that's just for points, there is no time limit.
Pandora's Box is a collection of different puzzles for Win9x, no timer or time limits. All puzzles are visual like lining up pieces of a picture, no reflexes needed.

Do you think adding a Bow and Arrow item would have broken Zelda II combat? The bow (and boomerang) must have felt like an odd exclusion, no?

my guess is it's not there just because you don't fight ganon, like if he did return when you weren't dead you'd need em because of the silver arrows. there's no puzzle bosses like gohma in zelda 2 either.
>>12026762
no you need the blue candle to open up level 8.

that would've been nice. probably would've done it between towns rather than dungeons in that case.

You cant beat the final boss in GnG with throwing the shield at it. But it is not a weapon people associate with the character because 99.9% of players never even knew it existed.

I think it would be superfluous given the existence of the fire spell.

Im having issues with an expansion pack i just repaired...

I got this expansion pack from a friend that told me it didnt work, after readaing about it i found out the main issue is the resistors going bad, i checked and indeed 2 of the resistor arrays had issues with the normal values, few days ago i received the replacements and now it is working for the most part.

Issue is the console keeps resetting by itself every few mintes, sometimes 5 minutes in, other times 10-15 minutes in, i have 3 other n64 consoles and this same issue happens with all 4 consoles, also have another PSU and it still happens with the other PSU, and also i have another expansion pack and a regular jumper pack and the resseting issue only happens with the expansion pack i repaired.

So, anyone has experience with this issue? it obviously is something with this expansion pack, i tried applying thermal paste under the small rubber pad thats inside the expansion pack, also i applied more solder to the upper pins on the RAM chip that serve as anchor points and my guess is also transfer heat from the chip to the PCB.

because rdram is a piece of shit.
it was tried on desktop computers and it flopped because it performed worse in real world scenarios because of increased latency compared to sdram and got hotter while being more expensive.
it didn't help that ddr sdram hit the market half a year after.

>Why'd SNK do it
For multislot MVS, I'm guessing they thought it would just be easier for operators to know that whatever they bought would jest werk with their MVS cab, and not have to worry about rotating monitors/accidentally putting a vertical game in with horizontal games. I'm not aware of any of SNK's cabs having an easy rotation mech, which would make things even more frustrating.

My usual method of deal hunting is patience and watchlisting things on eBay to fish for offers. Retro game stores and good yard sales aren't a thing within 40 miles of me. Are there any other good methods I can use?

Yeah but the main point of them is moving the existing number of buttons around as opposed to having extra buttons available for binding. Think the white/black on the huegbox.

They are actually not traditional painted in any capacity. The artist is Iain McCaig (pretty well know among pros); he talked about this early gig fairly recently in an interview for a LucasArts fan website. He "painted" all these from scratch using digital software and a MOUSE since tablets weren't a thing back then, and not even referencing photographs (though he used his coworkers as inspiration).

To be fair though it's not really "pixel art" but rather a very early and inconvenient form of digital painting.

Kek my devious friend.
I've seen a very old making of Lucasfilm games, and they did scan aquarels for a couple of games but I would also believe that the artist used an early wacom tablet.

Same, I have stopped going for 1ccs of 45 minute console shmups where you have to fall asleep to die for the first 20 minutes. Kind of a shame because I love the aesthetic of most 16-bit console shmups but so many of them are kinda snooze-tier for a lot of their playtime
>>

A handheld with colors, compared to one that was black and white, with a lit screen, compared to one that was hard to see, and graphics superior to the Master System, compared to one that looked worse than the NES, was by all means superior hardware wise. I'm not arguing if it was more efficient, if it had a better library, etc. We all know Nintendo won because their handheld was better, but hardware wise it's obvious the Game Gear was more advanced, they're different things.

There isn't a single SEGA console I'd put in my top 5, but Sonic Adventure absolutely murders Super Mario 64. When Sega did it good, they did it better than anybody.

Been playing some Mystical Ninja starring Goemon. Great game, but why are these fuckers always so hard to find? They are almost always hidden in the strangest of rooms.

Put the connector in, on the ribbon cable side *without* the contacts, pad it with some folded up paper like a cut to fit post it note. You need pressure so it hits the contacts inside. Then drip a bit of glue so the paper stays against the connector and doesn't go anywhere.

And be careful with those latch bail connectors you savage.
>>
>>12027250
Thanks. I know I'd probably break it trying, but I'd rather try and fail than never learn.
However, I managed to fix it by pushing the latch back on and taping it in place. It works fine now. Thanks anon.

Good to hear. Not sure how long that will hold but you can always hot glue for a more sturdy hold that will last longer. In the meantime you can practice soldering that sort of stuff. It's not rocket science. Every pajeet or chang at a phone repair shop has mastered it.

Cosmic Carnage is underrated fighting kusoludo. It's not good but it's so fascinating with the weird ass cast of characters with jointed sprites and zooming effects.
