With the news that we are getting yet another classic being remade, what are your opinions on this? How do you feel they will “remake” it? Will it be a 1:1 w just graphics, will it be a slight overhaul w new content and mechanics or a complete from the ground up total remake changing everything and maybe trying to erase the OG? The only positive I could possibly see is if this does well and they do MM that we finally get a trilogy capper that they should’ve done when releasing these games on the DS, because it was pretty clear that MM was a fun side quest and a direct continuation of OOT getting sidetracked from finishing the mission he was on his way to complete before getting sucked into the skull kids temper tantrum.

He’s probably one of those insane Twitter posters who basically want this Sebby guy dead for daring to compare and contrast the two games. Wouldn’t be surprised at all and it only makes Sebby wealthy because he was a nobody and now w all the overreacting and insane hate to him literally telling people he’s stirring the pot while also literally comparing and contrasting scenes side by side.

Either way u had better examples but does this other guy not read reviews? Or previews? Does he hear the name of a game and then ignore all news on it and buy on release because his argument is insane. In a way Sebby is just reviewing the game in a different format but it’s still basically a review and he makes me laugh w his impressions and shit. I mean it’s comedy gold, especially the batshit insane comments from Twitter he gets. Makes me laugh harder then any modern comedy movie… maybe that’s why we don’t get awesome comedy movies anymore… but yes I agree w u 100 percent, the guys argument is retarded. However, I did order a copy of ff7 remake to try it myself because it was 10 dollars brand new so why not. I doubt I’ll finish it but wth I’ll give it a run, but most likely I’ll just drop it as soon as I can’t handle the retarded uwuing anymore and replay the original so if anything, it looks like this “remake” will just have me playing the OG again very soon, which is never a bad thing since ff7 and OoT are some of my favorite retro games. I don’t care that what other people think both games are in my top ten and I played them on release and have continued to beat them or play through them every 5 years like a good novel u reread every so often.

But only on pc. The console was fine, first instance of dlc I recall being pushed right along side the release, but I guess my buddy sold me on the pc version so I was kinda bummed with the 360 version .
>>
>>12478620
Pretty boring in the beginning but charming enough to finish it. Story seems to be kinda Star Wars-y with it's own (not) Darth Vader. RPG-system is fucked tho because you can turn your character into stun machine almost in the beginning of the game.

>Spearheaded by retro programmer Kan Naito and notorious JP retro Youtuber 4ST
>Kan Naito is better known for his work at Chunsoft as a programmer on DQ3 & 4 before leaving and funding his own company, Climax Entertainment, who worked on Shining Force and Stalker series among others
>The game is a spin-off of "Lady Stalker" which in itself was a spin-off of Landstalker
>The original character designer for Lady Stalker, Yoshitaka Tamaki, passed away back in 2023, but the game will include a new never seen before character designed by him
>The main gimmick of the game is the cartridge board itself, which had a previous successful crowdfunding campaign for its development
>The two LEDs on the sides of the cartridge will react to the game in different ways, such as lighting up different colors in battle depending on the actions of the player, working as an item detector while exploring the field, used as a compass during dungeons, change color during some conversations depending on the mood, etc
>Scale wise, Naito said he wants to make something at least on the level of DQ2, but may expand the game more or make a more ambitious sequel depending on reception
>Since the cartridge board funding met its stretch goals, more features will be added like : WiFi & BT, large size ROM and RAM, chips for enhanced graphics and sound, and more
>Apparently they're also working on a modern Famiclone console, so "more people can enjoy the game"

looking at wikipedia
>Many of the employees of Climax Entertainment had formerly worked for Enix. An initial pitch for the game was to create a spinoff of the 1990 Famicom game Dragon Quest IV that featured Princess Alena and her two companions. After this proposal was rejected, the game was made into its own intellectual property instead, and became Lady Stalker.
That explains why the main trio looked familiar

Was Animaniacs really still popular enough with kids in 2005 that they made a shovelware tie-in game to sucker kids into buying the game? It ended in 1998, technically 1999 with that movie, but it got this game.

The Japanese versions of games are the main version. The localizations (NA or EU versions) are just derivative versions.
>but anon, games were IMPROVED for their western release!
No, they often had the difficulty lowered because western gamers are babies. Like Mega Man 2, which was made easier but you guys still claim it's hard. And some games did the opposite and increased the difficulty because of the rental market. The only way to get the true intended experience is to play the original.
>But the western versions fixed bugs!
They also introduced tons of them. Translating games back then was basically hacking them because text characters were graphical elements and not actual text, so translations often introduced bugs that weren't in the originals.

They also censored the living shit out of everything. Graphics, dialogue, everything. And if we're talking about NES games, they have worse audio too because of missing sound hardware. Yeah that's right, if you played Zelda, Castlevania, Metroid, Kid Icarus, etc, than you got the shitty version with gimped music.
>but [developer] said they like the English version better and they used the English script to make changes in the original
No they didn't

I always preferred consoles and would often just go for the console ports of everything, but recently with a few arcade titles without proper console ports getting my interest, and how Myrient's going down which made me download a ton of arcade titles in panic, I'm playing through some of them and it's been incredible.

I'd say my main issue before, and why I preferred console ports, was the lives/continues, back then we'd play as long as we had quarters, but now? I have inifinte quarters in my emulator, so how do I make it more challenging? Do I have to 1CC all I play? It's part of the reason I never got into this sort of emulation before, but now it's solved... I've simply stopped caring about having the most challenge, I'm getting older and time is shorter every year, more stuff to do, less time to do all things I actually want to do, so not focusing on lives and 1CCs, and simply playing, putting on a quarter whenever I run out, it's comfortable and it's like fullfilling a childhood dream of mine too.

I've got all the quarters I need, baby! No need to ask mom for more and hearing that it won't be happening. It's comfortable and I'm enjoying it. Anyways, how do you guys go about emulating arcade titles? Do you go for the 1CC every single time or do you add a limit to your quarters? How do you decide that limit? Or do you go infinite?

Real answer, check the operator menu if it has one otherwise set dip switches if possible to change game configs to make more difficult when possible. Cabs tend to have at least some configurable options and mame emulates the whole damn cab
>>
The correct answer is to see how far you can get on a single credit, not necessarily aiming to complete the game. These games have scores for a reason.
>>
>>12481195
Yeah, most arcade games don't have "difficulty settings", they have multiple adjustable options that individually make things easier or harder for the player.

'08 market crash right as I graduate uni. Move across the country for a job. Entire facility gets shut down '09. Go back to school for programming / cybersec. Digimon didn't fail because licensees compared it to Pokemon. It failed because the games were generally pretty bad, the monster designs had less mass appeal, and the TV show kept introducing new, completely unrecognizable continuities and rules.

The European market is one thing, but the Latin American market was (and still is) rife with bootlegs. The NES was popular because of the ease it was to bootleg it. Same with the PS1. Getting a legit console there was only reserved to the wealthy, and they were a minority class.

Post some interesting version and regional differences you know of, betas included. Yes, Super Mario 2 was originally donkey donkey picnic which itself was going to be a mario game.
Here's one from Ardy Lightfoot (SNES):
There's a point in the game where you're following a burglar for one of the MacGuffins and she ends up swallowed by a giant worm.
In the international versions, she's just knocked out in the ground near the end of the stage but, in the japanese original, she was actually digested alive and only her skeleton remains (You can even see droplets of stomach acid dripping from the ceiling).
Pretty fucked up, I can see why they wanted to change it.

Just like the actual Bard's Tale 2 (and by extension, Bard's Tale 3) then. You're pretty much expected to just run (and by run, I mean play the song that gives your party 100% chance to flee from battle) from every random encounter and only do the mandatory fights because the game assumes you're rolling with a high level party from Bard's Tale 1 and throws hordes of dudes with walls of health your way to slowly wear your party down.
