Let's settle the debate I will put a top 20 noteworthy games for each of those years"Where is 1995,1996 or 2000"Good years but come on it's not in same level
>>12478903SOULFULLEST>>12478906SOUL>>12478908soulless
>>124788981998 period is where it reached actual peakwhich means tho late 1997 to early 1999
>>124788981999 was the peak and the year it got the most games iirc, specially in japan. After that it started getting eclipsed by the PS2 and gradually getting less noteworthy games.
It's 98 and it's not close, either. The only other greatest year in gaming that compares is 2001.
>>12482606>The only other greatest year in gaming that compares is 2001Eh no ,1997,1998,1999 and 2000 are all better yearsJust 2000 on PC has:Deus ex Thief 2Baldur's Gate 2Diablo 2Counter strike No one live forever AliceThe simsComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>is lowkey better than Halo
>>12479269even my farts are better than gaylo
>>12479303>Timesplitters 2 is pretty badUnpopular opinion. I had fun and so did a lot of people
I can't even, TS2 was peak. TS: FP was trying too hard to be funnier and bigger. Like that annoying cousin who thinks that loudly explaining a joke makes him look funny AND smart.
>>12480979it's mid
TS3 is boring compared to TS2 because it resembles a generic modern 6th fps. Halo does everything better than ts3, minus the tits.
Underrated game, baby difficulty but it's still a fun weekend game and has a bitchin OST. Unironically more enjoyable than the other FF games on the snes.
>>12473648/thread
>>12473597>Unironicallyliar detected.
Got it for Xmas at the ripe old age of 11 because I'm a poorfag and ff2 was still like 80 bucks. I played through it over the next week in between Dad making me play outside because it was a really warm winner and he wanted to watch shitty TV. Super fond of it in my memory. I'm sure as a schitzo old person talking about little kid games on the Internet I might not enjoy a replay. 8 stars out of 10
>>12476372Unfathomably based
>>12481684My brotherI renter ff2 once and it was great and I wanted to play more. it was almost my birthday so we went to buy it. Huh, this is Final Fantasy and I don't see anything else and this sort of looks similar? I guess this is it.... take it home, we'll this is obviously different but still pretty cool.
2459 japanese exclusive games for the PS1More than half of the entire catalogue and if you include japanese games released in the west it's problably more than 30003/4 of the entire gigantic PS1 library are japaneseIt's even worse for the Saturn...How? Japan is far less populated than North America+europe,it should be the other way around
>>12480578Square alone seemed to have 5x the dev staff of Nintendo, but many smaller companies were also highly invested. Games were like the dot com bubble there.
>>12480664And hundreds of educational games. If you call them games.they had less interaction than VNs.Some were just digital tutors and training videos.
The Japanese usually center 90% of their output on whichever system is dominating the market over there, so one single system gets most of the Japanese output produced during that time. Westerners diversify no matter what and will gladly make tons of games for less popular systems (such as PC back then, or even the N64), not afraid to thrive in niche communities.
>>12480578EA and Sierra put out a lot of stuff but most didn't.
>>12480570They do whatever their boss tells them to. Could be Excel spreadsheets, could be sales or presenting to a client, could be cleaning the toilets.
I'll just leave this here...
>>12481701Console ports are the best. The pinned comment here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is1hAqNRwR8is from one of the creators basically endorsing the later ports over the original, and the video itself is a good overview of the differences.
>>12482348I wish this kind of thing still existed, like SMB2 JP, AKA the lost levels. The last time I remember someone making a sequel explicitly to satisfy fans who though the original was too easy was New Super Luigi U but even then it's not hard to that extent.
>>12481616Monsters can be controlled.
>>12482459>paid for PC gamesha ha no, zoomer -kun. you instead made a trip to the friendly neighborhood warez BBS and got W4 for free.
>>12482515Only eurotrash pirated games. Us Americans with jobs were better than that.
>That one slop game which is also your personal guilty pleasure
Paperboy 2. 1 stage. 2 songs. What else do you need?
>>12482484Clearly Cody from Final Fight wearing Terry's jacket from Fatal Fury 1. It's also Charlie Nash on the left.
>>12482512Oh uh yeah duh I knew that
"slop"-posters deserve the rope
Nah...Time Warp was better.
>>12477276ThisProbably the best oneAlso the teeth part creeped me out as a kid (same with Rens toothache episode)
I'm convinced I was the only one who had this gameYes it's jank but it's comfy
>>12482414Oh I have that one! My older cousin gave it to me. It fucking sucks and I hate it, but I'm glad I have it.
>>12482414Sometimes, one has to remember that the Game Boy wasn't always the big Pokemon machine we know it as best.
I remember renting this with my brother and being upset by how fucking dogshit it was.
Would this have saved Nintendo’s relationship with third-party developers?
>>12481124RE2 N64 isn't the flex it isFor starters it took an entire TEAM of programmers to make this port over the course of an ENTIRE year with a budget of A MILLION DOLLARS and even then they needed OUTSIDE HELP to figure out how to port the FMVsAnd the result could only be butchered
>>12481124This was selled in Spain at new prize at 15000 pesetas, that is 90 euros equivalent in 1999. Average game was 8000 pesetas back then.
>>12481681Poor English, but nonetheless gets the point across, people weren't excited to pay almost double for the few games which used 64mb cartridges. You'd get a good game with this one, but goddamn, one of the biggest advantages with consoles was that it wasn't as expensive as investing in a PC, you'd get the same game much cheaper on PSX.
>>12481058No, it would have completely destroyed them. Then people would realize what an easy mistakes it was and forgive sega, running back into their arms and that is how we save the Sega neptune.
>>12481643The 64DD's ability to write directly to the disks was very cool and would've allowed customizable games to an extent only otherwise possible on a computer.
Thoughts on GBA Crash Games?Reused assets aside, I feel they are harder than the PS1 games.Specially the bonus levels.
>>12481469I liked them quite a bit, especially N-Traced. The GBA version of Nitro Kart was suprisingly good too. Crash Purple was dogshit.>>12481710Is this one good? It kinda looks interesting.
>>12481469I honestly really like them, even purple.
>>12481639they are 2D platformers but also have segments like those chase scenes in Mickey Mania
>>12481806>Resident Evil deadly silence on the dsNot retro.

One series must go, which one do you choose
>>12480535Mortal Kombat
>>12475887I partly agree with the AI in that the top 4 listed are the only notable jrpgs for westerners.
>>12474102Dragon Quest.

>>12474102I like Phantays Star, but you have the original quadrilogy and then I don't bother after that. There's more FF games including good ones.
Rank 'em.CD > 1 > 3&K > 2
>>12477034Sonic Chaos feels like an incomplete beta. The first two and Triple Trouble are better.
>>12477726you won't get the proper ending doe
>>12467536Sonic 2 has the lamest stages out of classic games.Never beat 1 - getting filtered so many times as a kid made me hate it.3&K is annoying, standalone 3 is better.CD is king - soundtrack and stages are masterful.Standalone 3 is almost as good as CD.

With the news that we are getting yet another classic being remade, what are your opinions on this? How do you feel they will “remake” it? Will it be a 1:1 w just graphics, will it be a slight overhaul w new content and mechanics or a complete from the ground up total remake changing everything and maybe trying to erase the OG? The only positive I could possibly see is if this does well and they do MM that we finally get a trilogy capper that they should’ve done when releasing these games on the DS, because it was pretty clear that MM was a fun side quest and a direct continuation of OOT getting sidetracked from finishing the mission he was on his way to complete before getting sucked into the skull kids temper tantrum.
>>12475952>>12481140>>12481383fuck off to /v/ if you want to discuss e-celebs, phone posting faggot.
>>12482032No I don’t think I will. Cry harder faggot you’ve been trying to derail this thread since the start. When the announcement becomes official are you going to come crying in every single thread? We’re discussing retro games and remakes here. If you don’t like it and it bothers you so much piss off thirdie
>>12475565Eh, I feel like Ocarina of Time is going to be considered too much of a sacred cow to radically alter. The best I'm expecting is the same 3DS version just upped to HD and maybe some small optional extras.
>>12482087That’s probably the best bet. What would you like to see happen tho since it’s going to happen? Would u just want an hd version of the 3ds remaster or whatever it’s considered or do u want some additions like maybe a new dungeon?
>>12482427I could see a new dungeon thrown in as a hidden and fully optional "Hero's Trial", but that would probably be the most new material it gets.
What was it like being a retro gamer back in the 2000s?
>>12481794>tended to include by 2000
>>12479642I remember booting up emulators for the first time and wondering why everything looked like shit. I didn't realize the impact scanlines had on graphics at the time.
>>12481191Based friend saving it for a rainy day instead of playing purely to talk about it.
>>12479642Everyone was thrown by out their old junk ready to jump onto hd TVs and 7th gen. You only played last gen games if you legitimately were poor and your parents couldn't afford newer stuff. Like me, I had 3 siblings so I always had consoles like 4 years out of date that my dad picked up for cheap at some record store.
Old hardware was mostly seen as junk back then.Around 2002 I bought socket 4(Pentium60/66) base system for €20. Put it into a case, added a small CRT and started playing DoomII's Map26 - I Really liked it. After this I knew sooner or later I would revert back to the original hardware(relative to the software).
Which /vr/ characters?
