/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

I bought 2 26TB WD Red Pros over the holiday and they just got delivered. They were $500 + I received 10% back on my Prime card so ~$450 each which makes it $17.30/GB. Seeing prices now that is now around $540.
Am I good to return or are we at a state where I should keep these? Also my existing NAS has 5 12TB drives so not sure what I can begin to do with these
>>
>>107816221
No one knows for sure but as I said I bought two dozen HDDs. I'm literally betting on this not stopping anytime soon. If it's returning them or not eating this month yeah of course return them, if you can afford it and need the space or spares hold on to them for dear fucking life.

put that stuff in a separate file so it doesn't clutter your init file
(setq custom-file "~/.emacs.d/custom.el")
(load custom-file t)
>>
>>107816446
Emacs itself puts them in .emacs when I edit a face or customize some variable. If you move stuff to another file then it still gets added to this one when you edit things in the customize options so it would split everything and require manual moving each time, and potentially getting conflicts between the edits (which I've already dealt with a few times).

>If you move stuff to another file then it still gets added to this one when you edit things in the customize options
not if you set `custom-file' to a file path, that's the entire point. but you'll want to copy paste the old Custom stuff into that new file. C-h v custom-file:
When you change this variable outside Custom, look in the
previous custom file (usually your init file) for the
forms ‘(custom-set-variables ...)’ and ‘(custom-set-faces ...)’,
and copy them (whichever ones you find) to the new custom file.
This will preserve your existing customizations.

Modern "Xbox Core" controllers are the best they've ever been in terms of quality, feel, and usability. It's easy to fall into the trap of "All Xbox controllers have been the same for 20 years", but actually dig those old controllers out of your closet and hold them. 360 d-pad sucks and the entire Xbox One controller just feels CHEAP in your hands. The modern Xbox Core controller actually feels good and it has real bluetooth (you don't need a special dongle from Microsoft, you can just pair it with your computer).

>>
>>107816422

>>
>>107816634
Unless it's some puzzle game where nothing on the screen never really changes you'll be allocating more memory every frame for every bullet, enemy, particle effect, sound that needs to appear
and if you're going to say "well that doesn't count I'm using my own memory pool" then congratulations you just rewrote malloc / free for no reason
>>
>>107816657
Anon I just said I'm not deallocating, I didn't say I wouldn't use freelists to avoid having 500k bullets when only 500 are alive (yes it can theoretically still happen, no it will not happen in the real world, ever).

One summer I was working construction out of town paving roads. Near one town we had to split the road to put in a drainage pipe, and pave over it after. One of the local boys was a retard and would watch us work all day, not saying anything just gawking and waving his arms and hands around with a smile lf facination. Anyway, the day we filled in the trench with aggregate this retard boy got too closed was buried beneath the road probably 3-4 feet down, and we just paved over it without saying a word. No one asked or came looking for him

Ha, we had a sevenie, he had petitioned for a 4x10 work week with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.
Myself and 2 others cried discrimination until we were also given a 4x10 work week and 3 day weekend.
Shit was so cash
Management hated it. We had like 20 people on this job and half of us had Friday off.
They couldn't do shit.
8 months go buy and the guy quits.
Management reverts everyone back to a 5 day week.
Everyone hates it, 3 of us quit for a better job.
It was fantastic while it lasted. Nothing beats a 3 day weekend

>How so? You must be lying
You still need to know how to train the AI with the right data. You still need to have all of the glue code needed to stitch likely multiple AIs and long term memory and have a way form them to interact with other software.
Making temu neurosama is easy but making an actual more equivalent is a time creep and still requires you to know how to code even if you use chatGPT for assistance.
If you break it down it much more evolved then you think.
> the sourgrapes coping retards told me that what Vedal did was nothing impressive and that you just need to slap a LLM with some with some TTS and that's it.
Yes and no. It depends on what you respect, do you respect someone creating a really good GUI for FFMPEG for example?
At the end of the day you should challenge someone to do the same thing if they think it's effortless.
