Did anybody bought these ALLSOME drill presses? This one is pretty cheap for $160 and the specs seem ok. I mostly need it for ocassionaly drilling into aluminium and brass with 2-4mm bits.
>>107769510be warned that the low speeds on those do not mean increased torque, in fact it will mean even less torque (pwm speed controller, lower duty cycle). there is a parkside (lidl, kompernas, made in germany i think) version of those things and they suck ass compared to the version pulleys. the version with pulleys is also much cheaper, i belive its something like $80, or at least was 2 years ago
I got a 150 dollar voucher on aliexpress that I can waste. What's something I didn't know I need?
>>107769544i am the first to suggest a normal press drill, and to buy a second hand actually but for his usecase, any press drill will be an overkill, he doesnt need low speeds at all, he is using tiny brill bits on easy materials>>107769510anon that one is ok for your usecase, you can even go cheaper, like this one if you never going to drill steel https://aliexpress.com/item/1005010542325114.htmlAnd if you have a good portable drill, and dont use that often you can go for a good drill press fixture https://aliexpress.com/item/1005010576305973.htmlThere are even shittier ones as low as 15 bucks, that can be decent with some work.Just one thing use drill bits for brass or adapt a set to brass (you just need to file a cheapo set , really easy check for some videos)

>>107769907These things are just weird man.Major corporations could have saved millions if not billions in licensing fees over the years had they used FOSS instead of MS software. It's not even particularly better anymore at this point, except for maybe Excel and its complex mathematical functionalities.Maybe it's just a case of companies feeling embarrassed if word gets out that they're using free software rather than brand shit.Maybe using LibreOffice over MSoffice is to them what using an Android rather than an iPhone is to shallow girls. Maybe using FOSS gives investors the ick or something.

>>107764623common theme, "elite" circles of all kinds are snobby and insufferable. seniority is confused with being a competence . and when new people join it is important for them to establish their hierarchy position, so as to discourage competition, and potential usurpers. Usually if they encounter true opposition they become defensive, and lashout. I personally cannot stand such people, and try my best to not become so insulated as to become that very type of person, it can happen to almost anyone given enough time and enough buttlickers.

>>107765972>>107764586For me it was using imenu and consult imenu. It's basically a heading under which I can write code, if I then want to go a section of my code, I can to to that part of the code by selecting the heading.I've tried with different granularities and I decided on general headings instead of highly specific ones, for example:On the left we have the imenu results from a package in which I did more specific headings (needed because I was constantly getting lost), and to the right another where they're more general. This way if im adding a new customizable var I simply go to "Customization" and add it there, if there's a new variable to keep track of some state or element, I go to "Internal Variables", If I notice a bug with a given feature, I go to it's section by looking for it's category using imenu, and so on.It's basically org headings, you create a heading and write your relevant code into it. You can also leverage it for comments, for example you could create a heading for TODO items and write them as comments under a heading.
>>107764586I use it when I want to create headings in source code but don't want all features of Org Mode.
Thoughts on this package WIP?> whisper-timed-capture.el (name pending)> planned compat with whisper.el but not yetcomponents:1. voice recording utilities with ffmpeg2. transcription utilities with whisper-ctranslate2 3. region/rectangle based content capture framework How they basically go together is: >you start a voice recording(async) >a timer runs alongside the recording process>while recording, you start capturing text from different buffers related to what you're talking about in the recording.>After the recording ends, it gets transcribed with whisper-ctranslate2, which adds detailed timestamps to the recording.
