Yeah it's a room temp superconductor and somewhere in one of the screenplays or notes or something it says it's used to build superconducting magnets that contain antimatter for the ship engines. The first ones they sent out had to use liquid helium cooled magnets and were much bigger and bulkier. It's also mentioned somewhere that the company owns and operates a planetwide maglev transit network on Earth that makes use of it. I don't know why they don't just drop a few lines of dialogue outlining this stuff for viewers instead of leaving it scribbled in the margins of a script or notebook somewhere.

So nowadays with Steam and Electromagnetic catapults and CAA/UCAVs wouldn't that be much easier?

Pic related with modest modifications and a ramp or very basic catapult would work just fine. If the US is slinging 200km+ anti ship missiles from helicopters then a biplane can do the same thing, better even due to vastly superior range.

A carrier's air wing can catch up to it easily, the issue is that a fighter can't board the vessel. Helicopters meanwhile are much slower and shorter ranged

I'm basically a workman and I live in blue jeans loose enough to wear long thermal underwear under - with Carhart suspenders and big supple leather belt. While they will fit in jeans front pockets I usually use my fronts for wallet and key, lighter. I began concealed carry with a full scale 1911 in small of back inside jeans and am comfortable driving like that for a while - I looked for something better and less worrisome when cruising the ten Plains States. I discovered that both the Little Guys in the front of jeans, one behind each suspender (belly guns, right?) is perfectly comfortable seated or standing walking. I just can't imagine anything more natural and being non-firearms everybody can suck my my dick if they don't like seeing guns in a bank lobby or courthouse. The only time I pay them any mind is those uber-rare traffic stops and then I just pull them out one-at-a-time and set them on the roof of the pickup.
There, Cop - that's what I got. Look 'em over.
BTW twice in the last year I had to do that while it was raining. I Locktite the slugs and caps on them so they're water proof. I been carrying them loaded for a year and just now because it's New Years I put my hearing protection on and - clean sweep, all twelve made holes through one door of an abandoned F150.

Brand new Remington #10 caps, Locktite 609'd in place, Those little cutoff pieces of tough-ass hose that go over caps w/more 609 = cap jam impossible.
Weighed 4gr 4F Swiss for sure ignition. .480 diameter cigarette paper prevent fine/course powder mixing
Weighed 25gr Hodgdon triple se7en 3F, .480 disc Walmart Luminary Bag Fire Retardant Paper to delay smokeless ignition until slug is past the forcing cone
Weighed(1984 vintage) Winchester Western 231 Pistol Ball Powder pushing (pic) slug = LEE .452 165 gr cast from wheel weights + 10% birdshot that are set in the tin lid of All Natural Guns of the West Bullet lube in a 150F hot water bath until temp stabilized and then in another metal lid same bath some pure lube gets chiseled out and melted and then 1.5 micron MOS2 powder mixed in until cake-y then just enough more lube-pieces until creamy again. Pour melted black shit in around the slugs until it fills the second groove but does not touch the land above it.
Of course the cap goes on last after the slugs are seated using a fixture and screw-press (custom). I tape the land above the top groove to keep the black off that area because I want green on that area. Screw-press only way to do that. They get pressed .010" (.25mm in Fag-units) below the cylinder face.
Re-assemble the weapon and cap it "and that's all there is to it". MV=980 fps, ME about 350 lb/ft (600J in fag-units).
Lethality and reliability insured.

1848 Colt Walker was designed to kll indian ponies with 69 gr BP pushing 220 gr rebated base conical down 10" barrel. At 200 yards.
1860 was designed to kill men at 100 yards with 35 gr BP pushing 149 gr round ball down 7 3/4 barrel.
I wouldn't underestimate how much is lost from that 2.25" of lost barrel.
I'd be comfortable with 165 gr slugs over full-house 35 gf Triple Se7en, I think. Pretty easy fix.

Checked, but man, Parsons was a weird guy.

Dude was super into occult shit and got really into the stuff Crowley (yes, that one) was doing at the time, to the point of being 2nd in the American 'temple' he was running for a while. He had a ranch out in California where he and kids of his occult friends would run around looking for fairies. And while it is believable that someone with his life was a prime target for assassination, it is just as likely that a guy with Parson's attitude toward safety did legitimately die in a 'freak home-lab rocket fuel explosion' Zoolander style.

I think his extreme openness to odd, unconventional, and sometimes unsavory ideas may have helped his career and research. I think there is something like that to be said for a lot of the random priests in the 16-21st centuries discovering and inventing things too. If your world view allows that, fundamentally, there are things we don't know and can't know without doing something to find out, it probably encourages discovery. I wonder if some of the slowdown in the pace of scientific breakthroughs can be blamed on so many practitioners of the 'scientific method' fundamentally believing that we basically understand the universe and there is nothing new to be found besides making semi-conductors 1% more efficient over the next 10 years.

Because you made her feel a lot (for the better i hope) and she is at a complete loss for answers at that very moment, not unlike that of a computer freezing. It is typical of when the relationship is rather fresh and things are new, perhaps taking things a step further or something. It's the first kiss, or the first holdings of hands or mayhaps giving her a pat on her head (nobody has ever done that for her before, neither her parents or anyone else have hugged her before (yes, that can be a thing sadly)).
