Does the humble gladius have any place in modern combat? Do swords in general? What's your favorite sword?
>>64299021>Idk how sturdy and robust gladius' tend to beBest ones were steel. Same secret sauce as later 'viking' swords. Makes you wonder why Romans never went with longer swords, seeing that they had the tech to make them. Gauls, on other hand, had long iron swords that bent like spaghetti.

I thrifted a weird modernized ALICE today. It's coyote brown and the only marking is a tag that says PMK Rescue Solutions. PMK was a short-lived defense contractor that went bankrupt in 2018. I can't find any information about their products. Did I acquire some failed prototype?

>>64340081No, go look up the shotgun it's based on.. in this case the cheek rest would be a spring loaded flap that you just pushed a button to open for loading.. the shotgun is downward ejecting, this would do the same thing. I rly like this idea, its a neat design to upscale for this purpose, the biggest thing would be: no extra mags, (carbon tube instead) no bolt or gass ports. It removes weight, and that's a huge factor.. and with the recoil, shooting rapid fire is counter productive, besides, ur gonna need a buddy just to carry the mags in that case.Ergo, bud is correct in his autistic way of thinking.
>>64340089China's is more like this on steroids. It is a very different gun conceptually. Far higher velocity and range, at the cost of size and recoil. This is meant to be an upgrade to the current Milkor, without going all out.
>>64340089>>64340171The Chinese version has the scope mounted on a spring so it doesn't kill the guy shooting it when it smashes him in the face with every shot.

With the "Drone Age" quickly coming upon us, what is even the answer to them in warfare? I'd never want to be a soldier but even now, I'd want to be one even less. If all it is is just you waiting around to get dunked by some pencil neck playing with a controller, what is the point? I sometimes hate the turn that the evolution of warfare takes because it just ends up making things even more miserable for everyone. Granted, it is warfare sure. Anyway, what is the answer for drones in warfare and how do you expect things to sort of evolve around drones? Like when tanks first hit the battlefield, what options were made to address them? What about when planes become widely used in combat etc?
>>64339397>What is the "answer" to drones?Gulf War 1 or better combined arms and actual deep strikes and actual maneuver warfare to stop neo-WW1 trench idiocy. RC Jet drones with scaled down air to air + tiny AWACs + DEWs to sever fiber optic tethers as an energy saving option.
>>64339397Jamming, killing drone operators, programmed munitions, APS.
Can small drones be detected by current radars?Continuous, all-around surveillance using powerful radio waves poses the risk of the radar itself being detected and attacked.
>>64339397I think the most immediate and low-tech solution is AGLs with airburst munitions. I know Benelli was talking about an anti-drone shotgun but it sounds like a PR stunt. Shotguns can intercept drones but nowhere near reliably enough to warrant adding a whole extra guy to each squad who's just there to shoot quadcopters. From that point forward its an EW arms race until we can get lasers strong enough to at least blind a drone reliably mounted to anything bigger than a bicycle
>Turret using whatever long range rifle cartridge you want and ideally old surplus rifles>Tracks and shoots at anything it detects flying in it's range- except instead of just a camera, it has one of those extreme range microphones so before firing it does a simple check- does it go "bzzzzzzzzzz"?>If it sees something it THINKS is a drone but is silent, and said drone does not seem to be on a direct course to hit anything you designate as important, it sends a confirm request to some wagie>This prevents them from obliterating all birds in the area, but more importantly, not wasting ammo>Design system to be as dirt cheap as possible, use the classic Supcom tactic of "t1 AA creep" to achieve saturation in important areas>Also this would be one part of a greater network of drone defense, obviously this has flaws.

>>64339264Probably. I remember in (Air Force) BMT one of the instructors was complaining about how expensive switching to OCPs (This was the ABU-OCP transition era) is. He even showed us the math on how expensive it would be for him to switch to OCPs, and it came out to... $500... and how he had to save up for that. Don't get me wrong; if you're in a position where you have to buy new uniforms, but the military won't give you a uniform allowance for whatever reason, that is bullshit and you should complain (preferably to finance, not some trainees). But this dude, an E-6 (with special duty pay!), was acting like $500 would financially destroy his whole year lmfao. bro I've seen E-2s manage their finances better than this dude ahahahahahaha.

do you carry a medical/trauma kit in your BOB/combat kit? in my smallish backpack, i've put together a few things for major wounds. i also have a larger duffel bag which i consider my real BOB that has some emergency/freeze dried food, a mylar blanket, bottled water, paracord, some spare ammo, lighters, other non combat essentials. but if i were ever on the move, i would probably carry my backpack and leave my duffel bag somewhere safe so my immediately important things go in my backpack.>8 rolls of 3"x36" gauze for wound packing, individually wrapped>another large clean cotton rag for multipurpose use like water filtration (plus a lifestraw for actual purification), wound packing, cleaning, etc.>6 individually wrapped gauze pads for cleaning, wound packing, treating minor wounds>4 packs of bleedstop hemostatic agent>1 CAT tourniquet (not pictured, i moved it into my backpack from my main BOB after pic taken)>plastic bags for multipurpose use, protecting things from water, makeshift chest seal>3 rolls of adhesive wrap>small roll of medical tape, breathable, durable, and easily torn by hand>1 large bowie knife, 1 smaller pocket knife>1 swiss army knife with scissors and other tools>paper and sharpie for any note taking>antihistamines and nsaids in case there is no immediate medical services available. ibuprofen strictly for injuries that involve limited bleeding like a simple bone fracture>few packs of alcohol swabs for disinfecting>small sewing kit in an altoid tin which could double down as emergency suture as a last resortComment too long.
