The defense of Wiltz during the Battle of the Bulge. The 28th Infantry Division had control of that sector and garrisonned most of the divisional staff in the town but they were so badly decimated from the Hurtgen Forest that when the Germans attacked the band was sent out to hold the town's defensive perimiter and cover the retreat because there was nobody else available.
To the surprise of literally everyone, the band held the line for three days before they were forced to withdraw. Out of 60 men, 3 were killed in action and 35 were wounded or captured.

I watched a video about this recently. Apparently they would have been more useful if they stayed in the air shooting people and scaring them away.

I've got a serious strategy to beat China in WW3. Let's say we're trying to invade Shanghai: we'll humidify the fuck out of Shanghai's atmosphere with milk particles. Chinese people by-and-large are lactose intolerant, so all the Chinese soldiers will be forced to surrender due to shitting their pants or experiencing a tummy ache; meanwhile, the milk in the atmosphere will enhance the combat capabilities of western soldiers. It doesn't violate the Geneva Conventions because milk is technically not a chemical weapon, and it'd be humane too since it doesn't even cause any permanent injuries. We'll haul over all kinds of equipment and boatloads of milk to achieve it, and we could even "poison" Shanghai's water supply with milk, leaving the Chinese with zero ability to fight. There'd probably be mass desertions too since PLA soldiers would just ditch the trenches to get away from the smell of shit.

I don't know if chemical weapons are within the scope of /k/, but what do you guys think? Should I try and lobby this idea to a think tank?

Goat milk has long been an alternative for lactose intolerant folk. Still is in the west but more among hippies and new ager types that shop in health food stores.

The larger globules expose less surface area which means that the limited lactase enzyme available doesn't get exhausted and expose lactose to bacteria who then produce methane or hydrogen as a byproduct.
Lactase cleaves lactose into galactose and dextrose which the bacteria are less interested in or don't produce gas from.

I'm not sure lactobacillus plays a major role in the process.

No one is competing and shooting swingers at 40 yards you are a fat retard who spends too much time in VR and you think it makes you a good shooting. Typical online over confidence. I shoot a ton of comps from basic USPSA to comps like ridge racer. 40 yards shot on an active target shooting at you isn’t a simple shot.

At the outdoor range where I work for free and get free range time in return (and by work I spend maybe 2 hours a week cleaning things up) they have LEO certifications on a regular basis. I'm willing to bet that MAYBE 10% of the officers can shoot good enough, and have enough moxy, to make this scenario plausible. Conversely, I'd say that most of the regulars could make the shots, but only a few would have what it takes to stand there when someones shooting back.

And if you watch the videos most of the officers clearly did not have any balls at all and spent most of the time hiding. If I would have had the same cover I know for a fact I could have taken out one for sure and quite likely more if I timed it so the ones who were still alive didn't know where the shot came from; just like shooting the rear turkey first.

I was watching Ian's video on this captive pistol pistol and he said the round leaks gas out the front which gives it the volume of maybe a silenced 22 pistol or something. But there's got to be a way to improve these rounds so they're completely silent right? It would have limited application but still it'd be pretty cool

>>

> It would have limited application but still it'd be pretty cool
I had the thought that there’s a small but profitable niche in the concealed carry market for a gun like this. Hear me out
>up pressure slightly so it’s comparable to .380 at least
>offer caliber swap barrels/slides so you can shoot 9mm/.380/.32 or whatever would fit
>practice with conversion barrel for cheap
>only shoot expensive unobtanium rounds occasionally
>market as a hearing safe CCW pistol

Maybe I'm in a smaller minority than I realize, but I think a lot of “serious gun guys” would like a hearing safe CCW pistol. My hearing isn’t my top priority but if I can ventilate Jamal AND not lose any hearing that would be ideal. It’s the same reason I, and thousands and thousands of others, use a suppressor on our home defense guns.

In short, get on it Kel-Tec.
>>
>>64655760
I doubt it's gonna happen unless the NFA is repealed. as far as I know each round counts as its own suppressor and has to be registered as such. yes it's much closer and far more economical once the $200 thing is gone, but still, registering each sounds like a massive hassle.
>>
>>64656373
Fair point. More just daydreaming now, but I wonder if you could register 100 rounds at once? It would be kind of hilarious to register 100 “suppressors” then tell them 50 were destroyed in one day.

The bus driver in charge of Venezuela is claiming the military will not only defeat the US and sink blockading aircraft carriers, but counterattack and capture the white house. Is this a realistic goal?

>>
>>64654035
It'd be political suicide on their behalf. Even if we have a shaky reason to intervene, everyone knows about the Monroe Doctrine and knows you don't fuck with our hemisphere. Same reason nobody's gotten up in arms about Cuba. Moreover intervention in Venezuela would give us reason to double or even triple down our investments in Asia. It's not like Chinese aid will be able to move quick enough and in enough quantity to affect the war anyway. They're better off just sitting it out, letting us make an ass of ourselves, and using our war as a distraction to make more moves in the South China Sea
>>
>>64653026
Well, it has the potential for being extremely funny in unforeseen ways. As 120% unlikely as it is, let's say two aircraft carriers get badly damaged, it would change the balance of power enough for chyna to try something in Taiwan. Meaning backing Venezuela in the shadows greatly works in their favor here. Don't ask me how such a strike would be possible, I fail to see it, but always be wary when treacherous chynamen are involved.

The Dutch signed a deal to buy Skyranger 30 systems, for 1bn - about 300 million under the planned budget. It has not been made known how many systems are being bought, but in an earlier stage 22 mobile systems were mentioned initially - however an unannounced number of static systems and training simulators are also part of the signed deal possibly bringing it up to 75 systems. The mobile system is to be mounted on the ACSV tracked platform as pictured here. FIM-92 Stinger quad-launchers have been selected for integration. It will use an X-band AESA radar.
Rheinmetall Switzerland will produce 3 prototypes, and Rheinmetall Netherlands will partially produce and assemble the systems. Deliveries should complete by 2029.

It looks like there is some converging onto this particular system in Europe. Future operators include Germany, Austria and Denmark. Potential future operators include Belgium, Czech Rep., Hungary, Italy and Lithuania. If they all sign up there could be around 800+ of these systems in Europe by the 2030s

It's also under consideration for the US armed forces but that seems a long shot.

>>In local folklore, the area is known as Death Valley. This name was given to the area by the nomadic tribes that domesticated and raised deer in the area. As they travelled along the Detrin River, they stumbled upon a huge field filled with human skulls and bones. Soon after, their deer became ill with a mysterious disease; the first symptom was loss of fur on their legs, followed by lack of energy and refusal to walk.

Okay hold on, I might have mixed things up. There's a "Valley of Death" in Kamchatka, but that's a natural phenomenon. It's a small gorge with a number of volcanic vents, gas buildup hangs low to the ground and things that go in asphyxiate, happens sometimes in Yellowstone too.

But there's ANOTHER one in Yakutia, also known in the local language as Uliuiu Cherkechekh, that's alleged to have these weird metallic "cauldrons" or domed structures sticking out of the ground. The whole area is rife with supposed anomalous phenomena, but is so far out in the ass-end of nowhere I've only heard of one expedition to the area...and it was cut short when one of the members became mysteriously ill, which is what the legends say happens to anyone going there. See: https://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/ciencia/esp_ciencia_tunguska09a.htm

Realistically speaking what are the mechs even contributing to this military force that you couldn't get by just swapping out the APCs for IFVs instead?

Does having full-time wheels stop it being a mech? I feel big part of mechanization is the speed of getting troops from place to place.

Having the ability to deploy wheels for periods of travel then switch to walking for tricky terrain would be ideal, but you'd only be able to use the biggest roads unless you make it normal AFV sized and at that point why have the mech?

I wouldn't be surprised if (those) elves never invented cartography anyway. And some of them came back later to do one thing but they'd been living with the gods where they have magic pools that can probably just activate satellite view whenever they want. One particular elf might draw one out of a personal autistic interest since that's why they do all their great crafts but it's not a given.
