Something I rarely see discussed anywhere. What type and brand of rifle case do you prefer?

Soft? Hard?
Traditional look or something that looks more military?

If you are willing to pay for premium then eberlestock has a lot of bags that work with their rifle scabbard
>>
I have Plano, Vault, Flambeau, Berghaus bag, and the free ones RIAC gives out from auctions. Plano and Flambeau seems similar. Vault is really nice but heavy. I like the fabric bags from RIAC and there's no foam. Berghaus is nice but lots of complicated straps everywhere. Still haven't found great bags for older long guns. Everything is kept in gun socks.

>Like that the enemy CAN in fact attack you in a sandstorm, so you should keep doing the basic soldier stuff like maintain patrols and sentry's that you should have been doing anyway.
It's amazing how often this is a vital factor. Just read Bandit Country and it makes the point that in South Armagh the British regiments that knew how to infantry, and did so religiously, almost never got sniped. Because they were patrolling properly, were supporting each other, moving tactically and were practising good cover and concealment they were either too dangerous to attack or too hard to approach safely.

It's fascinating how the Reformers seem to want to Sovietize the US military. The idea that air power only exits to supplement the ground forces is straight out of Warsaw Pact doctrine, unlike the US/NATO which uses air power to systematically dismantle the enemy and then uses the ground forces to roll over the blind, deaf, disorganized mass that's left.

I wonder if I should have tipped my sarcasm with a Tandem shaped charge.

Though will admit I am curious Tunisia tourist anon. Did the subject of Gulf War 1 come up at all? Or were they high enough on 3rd world/arab nationalist propaganda to think that was actually a heroic victory for Saddam?

>>64255366
I think what's kinda confounding is that it wasn't just the demoralized and half starved Iraqi conscripts waiting to surrender who had those problems. But well supplied loyalist Iraqi Republican Guard who'd be willing to fight just short of to the death at times... but who just couldn't be arsed to maintain lookouts/patrols and keep in touch with them by radio?

I think from a western perspective that kind of reasonably high Élan combined with fundamentally dog shit discipline/basic soldiery skills comes off as really bizarre. I think that's why a layfolk over emphasize the technology as being the overwhelming reason behind why things would be so one sided. Cause it's just hard to understand that even the Iraqi elite could have been that bad compared to the Americans.

>According to a Danish newspaper, Denmark is recommended to acquire the Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG system because, based on several parameters, it is considered to be a better fit for the Danish Armed Forces than the Patriot system.
>The Patriot system is estimated to cost twice as much, if not more. Furthermore, it needs more manpower to be operated.
>According to the Ministry of Defence officials, it is estimated that it may take several years before the Americans can deliver all the missiles that the Danish Defence requires to shoot down threats. The SAMP/T NG system is especially advantageous in terms of the speed of missile delivery. The Danish Armed Forces estimate that the American missiles may arrive one or more years later.
>According to Danish media reports, the SAMP/T NG is also favoured because weapons, missiles, and spare parts can be transported more quickly and easily by truck around the EU than across the ocean.

What's their target set? What threats are they concerned about? Why has nobody said anything about that yet?

For example, if their primary concern is cruise missiles/OWA stuff on a very short timeline, then it makes perfect sense to grab whatever's cheap/available and can still get that job done. Sure, procurement is almost always influenced by politicians in one way or another, but that doesn't mean that every procurement decision has to boil down to nothing but politics.

anyone got recommendations or bad experiences with cheap/knockoff optics from ebay and amazon?

i'm wondering specifically if anyone's tried any acog clones as i've seen decent reviews for them, though i don't know how much the quality varies between sellers or if they're largely sourced from the same factory

>ACOG clones
Yes I have!
No, never would I put this on a real firearm except maaaaybe a .22lr. I bought the clone ACOG for airsoft, and for that purpose it works alright. Clarity, light, and glass quality is all much lower than a real ACOG (obviously). The reticle is TA01 style despite the TA31 style body. It zeroes and stays zeroed although the turret adjustment are a little mushy. So, for airsoft it's fine but I have absolutely no confidence it would stand up to repeated recoil from a real rifle. For a bidget optic, there are sub $100 red dots that are trustworthy and I'd do those rather than trying to cheap out on magnified.

>>
just double your budget over the knockoffs and get something like vortex or sig. I see both around 100-200 and they wont become useless after 500 rounds
>>
>>64255466
Or, and I know this is relatively "expensive" a PA SLX. The 3x versions MSRP for less than $400. I've looked through them and they seem like a decent poor man's ACOG.
>>
>>64255440
thanks for your input
would you happen to remember the exact link or site you got it from?
i really don't care if the quality is worse than a real one, i certainly am not expecting that
if it at least works for airsoft then i can just bash test it myself to see if the zero holds and just return it if not

and like i said already, i really don't care for any other sights unless they look like an acog

The issue is plate thickness. Steel covert plates are typically under 0.4" thick. Ceramics generally need to be thicker but weigh substantially less due to the necessary composite backer.
A 0.4" ceramic plate would have struggled against a .30-06 due to how thin the backer would have been. You need at least 0.56" to 0.6" going off high end B4C examples like the LTC 28791 or VS-PBZSA. That means a less covert solution.
I have a hunch Kirk was wearing an uncoated VelSys PULV titanium plate or something similar, hence the spall. This is monday quarterbacking, but he should have worn some PBZSAs in a slick carrier under a lightweight jacket.
>>
>>64255167
Thin stand alone ceramics will probably be the new meta once the details of this come out, but they should have been already for contentious public speaking.
>>
>>64252966
They protect most of your important bits if they are sized and worn correctly. But my luck Id get shot in the face or dick and bleed out like a bitch.

The secret service has a boron carbide version of the PULV rated up to 7.62x39mm BZ API, but it has no known capability against higher-energy threats. It's alsp very restricted. There is an alll-PE ultralight version, too, but it will lose to M855 easily.
Many thin ceramics like the Hesco L211, L210, U211, etc fall apart when faced against larger calibers. Not one of those three is rated for 7.62x51 M80, the basic Level III threat. They have the ceramic strike face for steel penetrators but not enough fiberglass or PE backer for energy capture under 44mm BFD.
The less than overt "meta" is the VS-PBZSA, surpassed only by the unknown LTC plate that replaced it in 2023 as SOCOM's GEN-6 TSA/less-than-overt. This would be the direct successor to the LTC 28791.
For overt meta, the LTC 28570 is superb and could probably still be concealed under a sweater.

I have two 84 pattern mag pouches and they're heavy duty, maybe to much so. the elastic is VERY strong and makes it kind of a pain to remove anything that's not a smooth STANAG mag, but that should break in. also, on the individual pouches the bottom edge is pointy but that should be fairly easy to fix.
