>>97821864I'd actually argue that the main issue is the frustrating core rulebook, yes alongside netrunning at number 2 though it's better today than at launch, considerably. Aside from a few wonky outliers, I don't think the balance is bad. if anything they've erred on the side of not letting anything be good enough in case it becomes unbalanced -until interface 5 and mercenary level, which actually let's you have serious firepower. There's plenty of weird rules things scattered about (suppressive fire, vehicle prices) but I've never had them affect a game tbqh. In fact, my biggest personal gripe, LAJ, kind of... doesn't matter tbqh. sure it's not great game design that everyone sensible has cheap SP11, and that higher armour is almost always actively worse on top of being way more expensive, but it's not like it actually makes the game bad to play. A little less interesting when I'm shopping for better gear, sure, but if I'm completely honest with myself I'm not fussedBut it does feel hard to ask a new player to trawl through the convoluted rulebook and then another dozen DLC - all of which genuinely make the game better, but which just add another layer between newbie and actually playing. I don't think anyone even knew that you could link a biomonitor to your agent to auto summon your trauma team plan when injured until the game had been out for years, just because of how weirdly buried it was

I used AI to generate character tokens for an online game I had to prepare in less than 6 hours on a laptop where I didn't have my folder of saved character art. It did its job, the results were lame, didn't really matter.
Is there ANY miniature wargame that isn't insanely expensive? I'm talking about things you can buy in a box and play immediately, not "print your own minis" bullshit or things where you're forced to use proxies cause official models don't exist.

The setting emphasis ain't a bad idea though. In an ideal world, maybe we'd have something closer to a /old school dungeon crawler general/ and an /old school setting general/, but that's not going to happen with everyone dug in like they are right now.
