Are there any tabletop RPGs similar in style to the classic video game Baroque?
>>97367769Better in some ways, worse in others. The remake is easier on the player in a lot of ways (lots of QoL improvements, easier controls/perspective), but they also threw in some tougher challenges towards the end while also giving the player a lot more bullshit to do if they're mad enough to try and 100% the game. The remake actually gets a bit cringey at times thanks to its voice acting and how dated its art style and GFX has become, but about 20% of the designs are an improvement over their originals.
>>97364910We need a No Country For Old Men game thread
>>97367976It's all well and good to talk about QOL improvements and controls, but if I wanted to play a dungeon-exploration game based on the merit of its gameplay I wouldn't be playing Baroque in the first place. The remake absolutely butchers the aesthetic and atmosphere of the Saturn game. While those may only constitute the 'some ways' you speak of in which the original is superior, they are factors of such significance as to make the gameplay improvements irrelevant by comparison.
>>97371824iirc the remake is also kinda based on the manga too instead of the original scenario that they drafted up for the original game so elements contradict each other. I know the anon here claims that it's the point but the original Saturn release is pretty consistent in it's story.

>>97374780>How?What do you mean how? Bro, it's cool that everyone powerful sat on their hands in your games, but every other ST I've played with LOVES to have their Big Powerful NPCs constantly involve themselves. Problem going back to the early 00's
>>97374780>3e's Elder Exalted3e has the opposite problem from 1e/2e here. Their elders and 'powerful' characters die to chargen PCs and there is nothing to challenge a meaningful party other than Storyteller fiat'ing up some unique circumstantial superbuff that would also coincidentally make whoever receives it the strongest character in the setting. It's hilarious to hear people try to justify it with 'but PCs are genius heros / PC NPC split makes it okay' without realising that regardless of it's implications on the mechanics you interface with it still destroys all tension and engagement with the system.>I'm sorry but this sounds like a story beat rather than some humiliating game-ending slight to me (especially because Exalted was never sold as "the game where you have no obstacles and are as strong as the Unconquered Sun at Essence 1"). Either the character forms a rivalry ("Grrr, Chejop, I'll ruin the Realm while you're still alive!") on the spot or they get humbled by someone more experienced and learn to take a more measured and cautious approach. If you're a tolerant player who's up for that kind of thing, that's how it sounds, yes. I intentionally described it as a scenario that I'd be happy experiencing as a player, but also one which I'm pretty sure a good chunk of otherwise decent players would riot over.
>>97375084>It's hilarious to hear people try to justify it with 'but PCs are genius heros / PC NPC split makes it okay' This got funny in essence, with the Dragon-Blooded power levels.>It is OK for Dragon-Blooded to be so close in power to celestials, since PCs are genius DBs!!!>DB NPCs use the same charms.>Oh, well...
>>97375153That's more of a problem with the power levels being smushed than it is with PC vs NPC power level divides. In Essence the power of charms got smushed up from 3e, but the higher low bound and lack of uber-high elder Essence from 1e/2e meant Dragonblood benefited most.
>>97375084The only difference in 3e is an Elder needs his own Elder party, which they already had anyway
>referee makes big 3D dungeon model>players therefore already know the entire layout>completely destroys the fun of exploring and mapping a dungeon
>>97374057Your downside is my upside. Have fun playing a different game than mine.

>>97367918There's different tiers of costDF is the highest probablyMaking your own is the lowestI am quite happy the cost of my Archon Studio stuffAnd painting is fun
>>97375212How many hours would it take to build a setup similar to OPs pic though? You'd have to be pretty dedicated and really take an enjoyment in creating scenery. Its modular but you'd still constantly have to build additions to it if you actually run full on TTRPG campaigns with this level of dungeon building. My only real experience with this kind of stuff is spending a few afternoons making really terrible looking ruins out of cardboard so we could play war hammer.
>>97375291The setting up of OP's terrain would probably take 1-2hThere are no slots or whatever just magnets so it's easy to assembleDF is usually sold painted so there is no time needed for thatArchon Studio also started selling pre painted terrain, but I never used itThe painting time really depends on the terrainSome squares take 30sSome take an hourIt takes a bit longer to assembleI would guess twice as long as DF stuff?

>>97370622I don't think SJG deserves money but if you don't think their actions are cringe then I guess ask yourself if avoiding having to read the word gypsy is worth 40 bucks or whatever it is they're charging. >>97373970whats the reason for mages not wearing armor in warhammer again?
>>97374926The more naked you are the greater the ability to channel magic. Source being I made this the fuck up
>>97374926Armor interferes with the flow of the winds of magic. You suffer a malus to casting spells and channeling spells in WFRP while wearing armor, based on the most protective armor. However, not for all spheres of magic. You can cast spells of the lore of beasts while wearing leather armor without a malus. And spells of the lore of metal while wearing anything metal. It's a pretty hefty malus. If your character is really good at spellcasting, he may start to just take it and wear armor regardless (and elves are really good mages). However, it shouldn't really be worth it. Unless you are a wizard ascribing to the aforementioned lores.Unfunny fun fact: your wizard is supposed to dress in a way that fits his chosen lore of magic. There is no mechanic for that, it's more flavor. But in general, what your character wears can help or hinder the flow of the winds.High Elves can eventually learn all winds of magic, so they may end up looking just wizard-like.This post will be ignored, but that anon will reply to the shitpost

Oh, ok, I remember those. I think I may have even bought the Genestealer one lmao. I definitely bought the GSC Acolytes one. But as the other anon says they were never really "giving terrain away," they were just trying to make attractive package deals.I'm still baffled by the "trench" though. The Genestealers came with a munitorum container sprue. The GSC came with Sector Fronteris stuff. The grate and rubble was the Sector Sanctoris set. But I can't find a "trench" of any kind lol.
I would love that elevated grate for my Necromunda table (but not the churchy rubble as much). I wonder if this has ever shown up in a MTO yet.
>>97375018Yes they do. You think they go "oop better put new production on hold to make more fucking blightlord terminators for kill team"?

has anyone given though to the state of mathematics in fantasy settings and how it affects the setting and characters in it? e.g.>tribes in not!Africa struggle with trade because they can't count past 2>how traders to calculation to determine prices, risk, etc>how well astronomers understand the motion of the heavens>how the characters think (i.e. logically, or numerically, or in a poetic / non-mathematical way)
>>97372817yes, but the truly primitive (e.g. piraha) have no concept of time, nor do they care.as for civilizations, accurate timekeeping has been a relatively recent development. also, most people would probably not have cared much until the industrial revolution and the creation of shift labor. basically, a a peasant needs to know what day it is, a factory worker needs to know the hour (so that he can start his shift on time), and I need to know what minute it is in order to make it to my next zoom meeting on time.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_timekeeping_devices
>>97367888>In my games setting magic and the technology that would allow for automation can't co-exist, as the chaotic reality manipulating nature of magic would interfere and break stuff purely running on the laws of physics. (not the most original idea, but at least it explains why things have been in medieval stasis for so long)Fine, I'll bite. How? Since technology is just exploiting natural chemical and motion based principles already baked in to nature. If "thing pushes other thing" suddenly broke down, your entire body would suddenly fall apart in to it's base components. The real answer is the tainted work of the hand of man thanks to man being sinful. Magic is closer in purity to the uncorrupt world prior to the fall. Also what makes it so dangerous. Much in the same way that anyone who looks upon the Lord would die instantly. Or how touching the Ark of the Covenant would kill someone instantly. Harnessing magic takes extra measures.
>>97373744Your answer is just as valid as the other anon's.Neither needs to hold up to scrutiny of rejects from /sci/ or /lit/, because they won't be scrutinised, they're window dressing for a game.
>>97373817>scrutiny of rejects from /sci//sci/ is one of the most retarded cesspools i've ever encountered. it's were science goes to die. even /x/ is a better resource for science related matters.
>>97373744This is why I dont have any intention of fleshing out the interaction. It just does, the players haven't shown any interest in the exact mechanics. There's no real reason for me to work it out further unless my players suddenly start caring about it. Its going to be more relevant in the future but for now its background information with the occasional reminders.Unless the players tell me / let me know by their behavior and questions that they're interested in specific things I try to avoid putting in a lot of time to developing ideas and lore about them. The exception being of course things I think are cool or relevant that I want them to deal with or know about. At the end of the day I enjoy creating a consistent setting for my players to have fun in, where they can make informed choices and have the world respond logically to their actions.
