I particularly like Poschengband 3.5.1, but feel free to try newer/supported branches, I think some anon created Pseudoellisposchengband, and you can play Frogcomposband on mobile if you care for it. Amberites really feel like planeswalkers, their passive regen makes them monsters in battle even if you're a caster, and you can easily color-code your gish with the right paladin domain or wizard-warrior combination. You won't get the broken 3 card combo going infinite that easily, as Angband variants are more "fair" and about numbers going up instead of Ulyssean exploits. Finally started putting pen to paper on my 9th set, and I think I may have created the worst card in any game ever.Wheel Gator, Evil Fanged Heavy Tank150 PowerTrigger: When you take damage, both players add their hand to the bottom of their deck, then charge that many cards. For clarification "charge" is put those cards into a pile you draw all of next turn. I know that I am late and I risk to do irreparable damage to the thread but wouldn't a gun need both a super metal and a super powerful gunpowder that may not even exist in the setting to scale as well?
>>97360407Traditionally? NoA bullet that breaks on contact is equally as deadly as one that stays intact, and in several cases the shrapnel can actually do more damageA bullet breaking doesn't stop the momentum of the bulletAs for the gunpowder, It depends. Most modern bullets are not actually stuffed entirely with explosive for obvious cost concernsIf you can picture a stick of dynamite compared to the blast it makes, remember that dynamite is actually an older weaker explosive and newer ones can be much more denseIf there were, for whatever reason, a market for bullets that could kill dragons they would certainly be doable(but would each individually run like 200-400)(And also the chamber would need to be much stronger)(And the recoil would be intense)(Still cheaper and less risky then 20 years of adventuing, but quite hasslesome)
>>97360427You don't use a guy with a gun to kill a dragon; you use massed artillery on its lair. Even mundane armies in DnD can take down dragons.
>>97360427Yes it's only the logic above where guns automatically scale to swords surprised me, considering that the gunpowder seems more important than the metal
The fact that you have to twist logic this much to make guns less powerful says a lot

Celestial Exaltation should just be described with a new incarnation of an ancient hero instead of reincarnation, as it describes what they are better, even if an Exaltation being a magical third soul makes it a weird grey area for being a reincarnation.

After playing both the original Shandalar and the 2016 update version I've come to the conclusion that magic was just more fun in 1995 when it was more loose and relaxed. The kinds of decks you go up against in the 2016 version are so much more ruthless about shutting down every play you make that the only way to compete is to be an even more obnoxious dickhead and make sure they never get a chance to do anything. Every victory was bitter and spiteful in a way that I never felt with the older simpler Magic cards.
>>97354269Who are you quoting?
Same applies to a lot of TCGs. This is why games like YuGiOh were best before a certain set, even outside of card balance. Your deck was the best with what you had, and you made it work. But it's ok because the people you are playing against are also (usually) playing the same way.Now they print cards that arent just stronger, but clearly being made for a specific meta purpose.

>>97359435I agree with the other poster, what a daft thought exercise. Probably the worst thing I could think of already happened anyway with Lion pardoning The Fallen, removing anything interesting they and the DA had going. >>97355569Fuckin forgot to post before I went to bed. Sorry for leaving you hanging. My personal experience boils down to a single utter shitshow of a game which didn't even last a session, because the GM quite literally opened with "Okay so you're all on a spaceship and you want to go do some heresy, there's three planets nearby, a forgeworld, an agriworld, and a hiveworld, pick one and then go kill some people." The situation devolved from there. Note the distinct lack of "who are your guys and what are their motives, why are you all working together, what's your objective" in there. An hour in and nobody's mentioned my name once, the GM clearly doesn't care to go into enough detail to make tech-use applicable, so I mentally check out, lower the volume to something less distracting, and go finish a video lecture. Get up for a bathroom break, come back, the server's fucking gone. I ask my buddy, another player, what the fuck happened, and he just says "Sometimes you gotta rip it out root and stem, man."Now that's just a shit GM being a shit GM, but it's representative of a subset of people who are only there to do lolrandom dumbfuckery. Black Crusade attracts those like flies, because they see "this game is about being horrible evil chaos bastards" and they think "oh, finally, a game for me!" They don't want to engage with the game as it's meant to be played, they want to use it as an excuse to act in ways that are unacceptable at a table, and they think the subject matter gives them that excuse. Y'know, like FATAL.This is not exclusive to the lolrandoms, either, but I'm fresh out of brain juice so I'm just gonna tell you to imagine That Guy, think about what makes him That Guy, and think about whether he thinks he could use Black Crusade as an excuse for being That Guy. I'm telling you, man, it's like flies. And it's fucking shameful, because the careful political aspects of balancing a chaos warband are actually a compelling premise.

>>97358809As I said the other Army list, Sniper Priest with a Machine Gun is utterly superior in every way. It may not allow you to pin an enemy down across the map but with your current build you have enough models to hold them in place. Getting another Machinegun in the list or- rather your first one will make a pretty big difference. >Grenades I don't know who the fuck hurt you but not every single model needs a grenade, you will be lucky if you throw two in a game. Three max if your enemy is really unlucky or just not playing well. Try to remove some of them, see how much Ducats you have left to try and invest into more Yeoman. You have a musician. That's great, don't know what that Frag Grenade is gonna do for them in combat. Give them a pistol or something. You don't want a sitting duck. Other than that the list seems solid. Just ensure your LT isn't too battle-damaged from engagements or you might need to retire them.

I'm working on a journey system with a few specific goals. One of which is to hone down on events that can happen to parties during a journey which - ideally - present the players with interesting problems to solve.Working document is here if you'd like to peruse: https://files.catbox.moe/7hfxya.pdf I'm curious if any experienced GMs have ideas on interesting journey complications (both positive and negative) that- ideally- might allow for opportunities for players to problem solve?Picrel is the list I've got right now (very basic)
>>97360406So what’s your process here? Do you prepare this content in advance or on the fly? Let’s explore the homeless example. I’m guessing you don’t railroad the players into being at a specific gas station, so you improvise this homeless guy on the fly right? He makes sense in the context of the environment. I’m just curious how much of this you prepare in advance.>>97360438Yeah, I guess I have the same question.>>97360442I think he’s saying the way that the content exists in the world (improvised; randomly generated, pre planned, or some combination) looks functionally identical to the player at the table as long as it makes sense in the context of the environment, right?
>>97360485It doesn't matter how it looks to the players. Total perfect simulation is the correct method, and no other shall be permitted.
>>97360489That’s the dream. So are you creating and simulating every aspect of your world prior to introducing your players to it? Do you improvise most of it?
>>97360172I'm not able to post the full thing and would probably be embarrassed to do so. I think having a set idea of the roster would be great. That's my bias, though.Basic idea of the system is it takes about an hour to walk 3 miles so that's used as the baseline. Meadows, fields, etc. Distance is halved or even brought down to 1/3rd depending on how difficult the terrain is. Phrased differently, difficult terrain may have 1 environmental hazard every x hours. The more that they run into, the less likely there will be another, the longer without the more likely there will be one. Represented by starting on a d10 and ratcheting lower down to a d4 for more likely or going up to a d20 for less likely. Like yours, it was on a 1. Simple stat rolls to overcome an obstacle. Failing just meant they were more tired.Similarly, enemy density is rolled by expected resistance. Whether that is every mile or every 3 is dependent on the territory. From what I remember, there were different bands of territory with heavy presence and longer stretches with no one (1d4 vs 1d20 rolls), but the danger came from exhaustion.Every fight or obstacle would cost 1 exhaustion, which every 5 HP the PC has, they gain 1 additional exhaustion. When they run out of exhaustion, they lose -1 to stat rolls until a long rest in a safe place. YMMV. Enemies were less important than simple stat rolls that would cause exhaustion loss if failed, but it also meant the 'fighter' types actually had a built-in mechanical advantage to endurance. Having to choose between the potential for many combat encounters along a contested road with the guarantee of a friendly camp or taking the long way and showing up weaker for a fight was a fun debate to watch. I think it added to the game.
>>97360489Except that higher powers put the hobo there on random chance rather than the hobo having any agency because he's not a real person but actually an obstacle.
