Good point. I've always read in genre for my games to get used to tropes and such but didn't think about actually picking up on the tropes on my porn's plot.

But why do you say it depends on the system? I don't use Labyrinthus nor Lewd Attack because frankly character creation alone pushed me away from playing both. Am I missing out just because I don't use sex mechanics?
>>
>>97362096
Because rules are almost non existent to the point you can easily play anything else and get more from it. Art even if well made is not for everyone and many might find it cringe or distasteful and look for something else. The author also tried a shitty cashgrab by making a mediocre 5e supplement so there's also that
>>
>>97362106
Labyrinthus and Lewd Attack also include actual lewd situations you might encounter while playing, other than having sex mechanics implemented. If you struggle to came up with lewd scenarios then using systems with such events built in will probably help, don't you think? What you usually like to play? Because knowing that could help you pick one or try both
>>
>>97362333
I use Fate for all settings I run. I tried to play Labyrinthus and Lewd Attack exactly for the reason you're pointing out, I wanted to see how it made things work, but I prefer simpler systems.
>>
>>97362380
Then you either start reading erotic novellas or try to use the tables from the systems. Otherwise you can't expect much from just using a generic setting with no attempts to implement lewd mechanics or lewd scenarios

Imagine arguing Exalted isn't full of contrarianism when it's how White Wolf does everything and always has. Sometimes that's cool. But when it isn't, I'm always going to say when it isn't. The dialogue gains nothing by pretending to like things you don't or ignoring things that aren't good. I fully support the homebrew posted in this thread instead of just accepting whatever is in the books as good or better

The one I'm interested in is Weapons of Desperation, at least for allies. There might be something to be said for Breachers with Clone and WOD absolutely loaded with stubbers, shotguns and the new Rending melee weapons as extremely sticky troops that also status everything, although not getting lascutters does sting slightly. Unsure whether a shotgun and a Rending 6+ melee is better than firing two autoguns at once with Pistol, but both are stylish.

Grave Wardens are still very very good regardless of what the WS5 crowd says about them, but I do believe they have a somewhat different niche from before. Going from all flamers to D2 guns will change the niche.

Yeah, lowest cost possible allies can just have the guns, but if you actually have 1500pts of vehicles/dreads/non-bolter infantry to fill out a blackshields primary you can get some seriously good chumps from it.

So is it sci fy, magic scy fi ala warhammer40k or something like that,

fantasy masquarading as si fi,

or sifi masquatading as magic

What gamesystem/setting?
>>
>>97361977
Mage: the Ascension/awakening is the system.
It's a little bit difficult to say really, every mage filters their magic through a paradigm, a way they see magic and its place in reality as a whole. If you get too flippant with magic around people who haven't been awoken then reality will try to assert itself and backlash on you.

The closest is probably magic masquerading as sci-fi, as my mage's paradigm is based around engineering and science (arc weapons instead of casting 'lightning Bolt's). It also helps he's incredibly intelligent, allowing some of his gadgets to actually mechanically function without magic.

Filtering magic through the lens of technology and nearish future sci-fi concepts let's him get away with more than most, as the consensus of reality has been exposed to enough of those concepts to believe they could exist. I have a much easier time getting around paradox backlash than say, our art streamer mage who paints things into reality or our daoist who uses 'chi' manipulation and various talismans.

Setting wise it's a bit of a detour from traditional world of darkness, carrying on in the same world we played Vampire the masquerade in. We're traveling the USA in an RV solving magical mayhem and dealing with rogue mages. Ours world lacks the technocracy of traditional mage (a mage group who function similarly to my mage, except they are trying to snuff out other magical paradigms/traditions to enforce their techno magic reality.

allow me to explain:

Disturbia is a two-player urban-fantasy card game that translates skirmish-game positioning into a card system: players win by contesting via a tug-of-war victory meter, rather than by reducing life totals.
Minions must advance by discarding cards to secure face-down cards from the top of the deck, forming Outposts that simultaneously define board presence (Positioning), targeting range, and future resource potential.
Advantage is the main resource to pay costs, which is generated by sacrificing Outposts—making every strong play a permanent loss of territory and future options.
Combat resolves as a fast skirmish using dice ordered by Agility, evoking tabletop tactics without grids.

Compared to Magic: The Gathering, Disturbia has no mana curve, no stockpiling, and no long-term engines; resources are volatile, positional, and self-consuming. Compared to skirmish games like Malifaux, Dungeon Command, Warhammer Underworlds, and Godtear, Disturbia removes boards and miniatures but preserves their core tensions—objective pressure, initiative via speed stats, positional reach, and meaningful sacrifices—delivering skirmish depth in a compact, deck-driven format where timing and territory matter more than accumulation.

>They get someone from the Shadowverse design staff to come in to implement much-needed reforms to the core system.

as soon as they start showing signs of magical aptitude, usually around 8 years old in the case of humans, though in families with a magical tradition it might start before in preparation for the actual manifestation of powers.
Besides those, only families with a high social status might induct their children into a mage order or hire a tutor to instruct them; commoner children that manifest powers usually won't be able to develop them unless their liege lord or some patron of high standing takes an interest to them. Those usually end up as hedge wizards at best and more usually as the village's cunning woman/man
Think that magic doesn't appear in awesome powers; no kid starts spontaneously casting fireball or prismatic ray or something of that kind, not even especially useful cantrips. They cast stuff like a handicapped version of mage hand or speak with animals but affecting only their pet, and just for a few seconds every month. It's easy to miss until they're much older if people aren't actively watching them in case they do have magic

Course it only mentions Aboms, Licks taking regular ass Wolfy vitae and assurances that it wouldn't mess with the boss' pet project that shouldn't be relevent here. Apparently nobody at this unethical pharaceutical/peteoluem shell company had the bright idea to see what drinking Abomination blood does. quick rundown?
>>
Funny emoug, in his early drafts, Tolkiactually used the word "Gnome" to describe Elves, not Dwarves.

The "Wise" Gnomes: Tolkien liked the word because it sounds like the Greek gnome (intelligence/wisdom). In his early Book of Lost Tales, the Noldor (the most intellectual and craft-oriented Elves) were called "Gnomes." He eventually stopped using the word because popular folklore (influenced by 16th-century alchemy and Victorian garden gnomes) had turned "Gnomes" into small, earth-dwelling, often comical spirits.

In general folklore, the lines between dwarves, gnomes, and kobolds were very blurry. Both were earth-spirits who lived underground. However, Tolkien specifically moved his Dwarves away from the "gnome" archetype.

Almost every dwarf name in The Hobbit (Thorin, Fili, Kili, etc.) and even the name "Gandalf" was taken directly from a list called the Dvergatal (Catalogue of Dwarves) in the Old Norse poem Vöouspa. The idea of dwarves as master smiths living underground, associated with stone and mining, comes straight from the Norse dvergar. The "Greed", The "dragon-sickness" or obsession with gold mirrors the Norse dwarf Andvari, who guarded a cursed hoard.

What he invented (The "Modern" Dwarf):

Tolkien gave them a secret language (Khuzdul) and a deep internal history. He famously compared the Dwarves' history dispossessed of their homeland and wandering among other nations to that of the Jewish people, which added a layer of solemnity and tragedy not found in most folklore. Before Tolkien, dwarves were often portrayed as ugly, maggot-like, or purely mischievous. Tolkien made them brawny, honorable, and formidable warriors. He intentionally used "Dwarves" (plural) and "Dwarvish" instead of the then-standard "Dwarfs" to distinguish his "elder race" from the "dwarfs" of nursery tales and Snow White.

>Can the things you discover in a system nudge change your strategy?
Absolutely. If you discover a bunch of science planets, you can take it easy on early combat and go hard on teching up. If you find a free frigate laying around while exploring, that may fuel your early expansion, or give you space to sit back and just build orbitals. If you find an ancient ship part, that might influence what kinds of ships you make or how you design them.

Nudge is maybe even too soft a word. It's more like riding the wave of what you are able to find through exploration, what tech tiles are available, and what your opponents are doing. Your overall strategy may not necessarily change that much, but your capabilities will and you must act accordingly.
