Dunk On 'Em Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/Comment too long. >>97180822Funnily enough, had a game Saturday where my first shot was an AT Communicant using Cartridge Of His Wrath. Downed two enemies and wounded three but no OOA’s, and for the rest of the game I couldn’t fucking take anyone OOA with the exception of one melee guy who charged me unsupported. Very annoying.
>>97127804Same here. I just paid out for some mini's because that shit cost money, and I've never been much sold on buying books for things. But if the chance comes around, I might have to order books for TC. That shit actually looks dope as fuck.
First batch printed. Saturn 4 Ultra 16k, Sunlu ABS-like in ‘solid grey’, 0.025mm layers @1.6 sec exposure. Very happy with the result. I forgot the machine armor engine and one of the quillions on the shocktrooper’s flamberge didn’t print properly but otherwise excellent.
Can't do any actual model making due to moving this week, but here are some rough mockup mini's for my "Mothers of Saint Mar-Garet" warband (Stigmatic nun (going to get a proper face), War Prophet, Castigator). They were an idea I had a while ago in these threads, but I actually started quite liking the concept, and how it fit into TC.Already built the Castigator, and a couple malformed Pilgrims. Does anyone know any good wedding dress and/or pregnant woman type mini's for other Nuns?

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Also thinking of removing the printer guide and just having entries for FDM/Resin in budget/richfag categories. So would like to see some discussion around which printers to be nominated.

Using "sheets" or whatever is useless, you just need to go by instinct. Look at the request and think, "Is this an actual character someone could use"?I'd go pointing out examples I don't but then it would look like I'm just trying to falseflag for a response
>>97181277and even then instinct could be wrong from time to time. given the nature of the internet (and even more so this site) it's practically impossible to be sure.
How about we post our requests and let the artists decide if they find it interesting enough to draw? The rest of us beggars can STFU in the meantime.

starting a new campaign saturday. what good stuff should we cover at session 0?
>>97181932>what good stuff should we cover at session 0?number one with a bullet is to establish the reason the party should work together, otherwise you'll get an edgy lonewolf tard who will do their damndest to not actually contribute or get himself killed off instantly.
>>97181932Session 0 should be the GM laying out the general tone for the campaign and the players creating a party that compliments each other more than actually playing shit. You can implement the shit in the middle of a session though by having an event take place in a common communal spot. The group doesn't know each other and are all in a Waffle House at 3AM for various reasons when shit hits the fan and the exit isn't an option. The players reaction help them settle into what kind of character they will make. Something like that.Or maybe it's established they all work jobs that require them to be at a crime scene (employee at the place crime happened, cop asking questions, CSI team gathering data, etc) when the dead body suddenly stands up.
>>971819321. Establishing the tone of the campaign2. Identifying any triggers/lines3. Introducing the world4. Getting the party together5. Fixing any issues with any player's character sheet.

What do you do to make it interesting?
>>97181105>Don't forget weapon breakage rules. A 1.5 lbs. weapon risks breaking every time it parries a 5 lbs. mace. Against an 11.25 lbs. super-sized mace, that increases to 3.75 lbs. which included broadswords in the at risk category.Did anyone come up with a better system for blowing through parries. I don't mean like exploding swords that try to parry you, I mean just a parry being insufficient to fully stop (or even stop any damage) that's incoming. Feels weird it's so binary that you either have an enormously heavy weapon that can explode whatever tries to stop you, or your opponent can parry it no problem.
>>97181147When you have such enormous strength the cutting modifier is basically irrelevant.
>>97181370The Broken Blade (Pyramid vol. 3 iss. 87 p. 4) replaces the 1d weapon-breakage roll with a more complicated system based on rolling vs. the parrying weapon's HT.A beat (Martial Arts p. 100) is a ST-based feint that an attacker can use to knock his enemy's parrying weapon out of position.
>>97181282>there is a 'sweet spot' of DR which is just enough to stop the axe and not quite enough to handle the maceabout 1 DR, given that's the usual damage bonus maces have over axes, unless the axe is fine quality.>But this is mostly irrelevant in practice! except when it does, like fighting a dragon, which is when your high ST should shine, but the lack of wounding multiplier fucks you if you're using a mace.>If all you care about is being the most effective fighter build at a given points valueI don't mind some weapons being more optimal than others, but 50% difference is far from min-maxing, it's straight up handicap.>>97181384Is 50% more injury most of the time irrelevant?
>>97181756>except when it does, like fighting a dragon, which is when your high ST should shine, but the lack of wounding multiplier fucks you if you're using a mace.Lets say you're attacking a dungeon fantasy medium dragon (SM +4, 35 HP, DR 6). You're an ST 17 character with an ordinary flanged mace wielded in one hand and weapon master (mace) plus skill level of at least DX+2. Competing with an equivalent character with an ordinary good-quality axe.You attack the dragon's neck with a normal attack. You do 3d+8 crushing, average of 12.5 past DR, increased to 18.5 with wounding modifier. Axe guy does 3d+7 cutting, average of 11.5 after DR, or 23 after wounding modifier. The axe causes 24% more hit point loss and has a better chance of inflicting a major wound, so it's clearly better, but it isn't 50% better and this is pretty much the worst case scenario. Against goblins, you pretty much just destroy them with one hit each.If it was a case of merely strong (ST 13) characters without weapon master, then the mace would be relatively better. 2d+2 cr vs DR 6 does an average of 4.4 HP to the neck, while 2d+1 cut does 4.6. That's only about a 2.5% improvement! To the torso, it would be 3.1 HP vs. 3.2, which is again a pretty small difference. There are a few cases, such as opponents with vulnerability to crushing or mail armour where the mace is actually a bit better. But yeah, the less you care about flat bonuses to damage and the more you care about multipliers, the worse crushing weapons look. This means that for super-strong characters, they are often sub-optimal.

>>97176099>Yeah it loses some of that fate of everything gravitasThere was never anything like that in Storm of Chaos.Middenheim is not even the most important city in the Empire. If Chaos had won Storm of Chaos then nothing would really have changed fundamentally. The set up narrative was fine. A massive horde is coming barrelling down out of the north, you can't stop them, but you can slow them down and fuck them up.The big mistakes were more to do with actually running the campaign, like leaving battlegrounds open for too long, and that ending which was just a bit shit.
>>97174255>Warhammer crystallized is supposed to be a picture of Archaon barreling down towards victory,Could they at least write it better? Perhaps not having multiple major characters die offscreen (like most of the Dwarves and Brettonians), or having the villians not just throw out some of their major flaws/ features dissapear so they can become a threat (the skaven just forgetting their backstabbing)
