Karak Eight Peaks is a good example of how rancidly ass the writing in Warhammer is.

>hyperadvanced super strong rich dwarf province fell apart and got wiped out by goblins

>dwarfs fail miserably trying to retake it because uhhhhhh lol goblins are so le random and funny

>army of retards who are hilarious (painfully unfunny) cockney parodies are stronger, smarter and better in battle than the dwarfs ever could be because uhhhh le epic subversion of expectations i guess

Pisses me off to no end how pathetic and useless Warhammer Dwarfs are written to be, it's like anti-plot-armor.

>dwarves must always suck and die because the hack writers say so because they hate them
Dwarves, elves, and brets were the three biggest punching bags in all the fluff, dishonorable fourth mention for beastmen who probably would've been shit on just as much had they ever even been slightly more relevant. There's nothing sad about any of their stories, you know they're gonna job hard af because that's what the turdburglars in charge of the lore demanded.

So list building wise, with mortuary cults if I have a mortuary priest as my leadership- 7 general if I include a tomb prince - what happens? Do I have to make the prince the general?

Anyone else notice the premodern cards skyrocketing in price suddenly? Psychatog used to be 1.50 at most for a near mint. Now suddenly all the listings are at $10+. Parallax tide was 20 bucks. Now it's $33. And so on for quite a few old printings and old cards. So on and so forth. Paypiggies and investors ruining the second hand market yet again for people who just want to play a game.

Why don't those guys running the premodern events just allow proxied decks as long as they look good? Not even a 16 proxies or 12 proxies allowed. Just allow a deck full of entirely proxies given that it was ordered from a printing house for the $50-$100 to print good quality proxies so everything is readable and it's not just one player trying to decipher the other player's chicken scratch or shitty home printer cutouts. You still play what you want without having to pay the investor inflation prices for the deck.

Even with non-reserve list cards being ran in the format there are quite a few of them that still haven't been reprinted and experience pricing bloat like the psychatog just mentioned. We're not even talking about a format that exist just to sell boosters like anything JotC is doing because no one can afford those boosters. The point is to play the game and it's best to just allow fully proxied decks as long as there are standards for proxy quality.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

While true, they also do it because it's a cheap way of conveying an idea or a specific kind of character trait to communicate the idea of the story.

Star Trek is specifically guilty of this although it can be said that at least the Ferengi got a massive glow up from being slinking monkey dudes with bulbous foreheads and dragon dildo laser whips to a respectable race who represent old world capitalism in a post scarcity "we don't use money" world.

This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

Naturally not if you are going to be honest and upfront about which edition you'll be playing

Though I have to say I had a strange case of a young couple signing up for an ItO game, and while I repeatedly told them the oneshot will not be 5e, they still sat at the table expecting 5e lol

To do them justice they were good players, quickly adapted with guidance by example from experienced osr players at the table and everyone had tons of fun

Someone on this board was crowing about how great it was, so I thought it might be worth checking out. I then found the PDF and couldn't tell if it was a joke or not. It's almost got a FATAL-tier cover, and as dumb as it looks, its contents are worse.
>What the fuck were they thinking with that initiative.
I imagine it's just a complete lack of understanding of how chance works or when or how approximations should be handled, and when an idea is not worth the amount of time spent on resolving it, or the headaches created by needing to track it.

Previously: https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/96936967/

When last we met, we made G.E.T.S. (Generally Entertaining Team-built System). Thus far, it seems to be a fairly minimalist system.

Now, we shall make our first setting for this system.

If your proposed idea gets doubles, it is canonized. Any canon characters, worldbuilding, themes, et cetera can be modified (but not outright contradicted or discarded) by triples, quadruples, et cetera.

Let us continue.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

Hey, all. Merry Christmas.
I'm looking for a recommendation for a simple fantasy skirmish game. I'm trying to get my wife to play a few games with me over drinks and, as much as I'd like her to play Mordheim, it's just not gonna happen. I need something a bit more simple. She's played a bit of D&D before (like twice) and some Heroquest, but not much more complicated than that. I was considering maybe Frostrgrave, but I think the amount of spells and stuff could throw her off at first.
>>
>>97242400
Brutality Skirmish is very, very simple as long as one of you is comfortable cooking up stat-lines. It's a lot of fun too. Encourages a weird mish-mash of stuff and dumb metal behavior

I'm working on mine. 36 figures is kind of a lot, especially considering they're all different and I don't want to do up my medieval peasants and watchmen as some kind of football uniformed team. I'm a beginner painter as well.
You need a ton of terrain for this game. It's supposed to be pretty fun though, I'll get to actively posting in this thread when I have played some actual games. Rn just under half the box is painted. I'm using the old Catan cardgame art for inspiration which is fun and nostalgic.

Does a magical parasite that took over the body of a wizard count?
I was basically just helping my friend play an NPC that would betray the party and be a more interactive boss fight.

The wizard was technically a half elvish female, but the brain slug never cared about such trivialities, part of the fun about being a parasite was being weird and off putting to see if anyone caught on.

Only time I even bothered with a female and I technically was playing something else entirely.

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas.
Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

You can have one extra peasant-y peasant who demonstrates why the nobility really do look down on people who haven't been trained in the proper ways to talk and behave.

And an impoverished noble who had to let all his house staff go and is pretending he didn't.

And give them manners and airs so even if a noble became as poor as a peasant and had to sell his last estate, they'd still feel superior to people born and raised peasants.
>>
>>97233040
Probably a military officer with noble blood. That's the kind of nobility adventurers would have the most dealings with. Maybe some provincial governor or duke who either gave out the mission or is scheming something.

Heinrich De Sandea, secret occultist.

A nobleman of an old and distinguished family that has a large estate and town out in the middle of nowhere. He commands significant respect at court due to his family line and wealth, but he secretly has a fascination with banned magic and forbidden books. He believes that the kingdom/empire/whatever has foolishly forfeited a powerful advantage by "needlessly" discriminating against these topics and schools of magic, and believes that ignorance of them will not serve as protection should some competitor choose to invest in them when we have not.
So he's performing horrific magical research with the "justification" that he is doing it for the good of the realm, even if the realm would have him hanged if they ever suspected he was doing it. When Sinistaar the Dark Lich rises from his thousand year slumber, De Sandea will be the one guy who knows *exactly* how a phylactery works, how it might be found and destroyed, and maybe an uncomfortable amount on how to make one if you were so inclined (which is impractical, you'd never get ahold of that many orphans without drawing attention to yourself, there HAS to be a better way...)
