How are interspecies relationships between yuan-ti and humans treated in your setting?
>>97355296Iffy. There was a long period of Yuan-ti trying to conquer/enslave humanity followed by a peaceful era where Yuan Ti realized that not being assholes all the time actually leaves to a better standard of living. Unfortunately That led to Yuan-Ti leadership having a collective panic attack and trying to Exterminate humanity in order to avoid cultural corruption. Needless to say, the Snakes are on Thin Ice.

I want to make a character who specializes in gathering information. Basically I want to know everything and everybody, or to be able to quickly learn about something or somebody when that isn't the case.I'm not sure how to go about it. Obviously with a design goal as broad as that, this is not the kind of character that I expect to be fully realized straight out of chargen. Face skills seem like a nobrainer starting off, but what would be the best thing to focus on after that? Also Shadowrun thread. The character is for 5e using basic priority chargen.
I really like Shadowrun, only played 5e so far, but I like the setting, the design, the mechanicsLast year I started my own campaign and it´s going ok, I think I will ditch half of my players but that is not due to Game reasonsMy favorite thing about the game is, that you can streamline it very good, because anything can be boiled don to "dice pool v difficulty"What is your favorite thing about SR? Have you tried diferent Version? Which Version did you like the most and why?
>>97363879I'm gearing up for a 2e game. I fucking love the setting. Even with the magic and elves and shit, it still scratches the cyberpunk itch better than cyberpunk itself does, imo. And those Roc paperback novels are an intrinsic part of the 90s for me. It's goofy and not even close to realistic, but at the same time it feels like a lived in world, to me.
>>97363879To expand on this, I'm reading Shadowbeat right now, and they just don't fucking make sourcebooks like this anymore. It has rules on how to steal cable tv, and run a pirate broadcast. Is it completely unnecessary? Probably, but I love that someone thought about it.
>>97364175I think the metas make it even stranger from our world, so it feels more like an unfamiliar place>unrealistic but feels lived inI get what you mean some of the things aren´t realy that 'logical' but if feels convincing>>97364190All this niche stuff is, at least to me, what makes the settingI remember reading somewhere in the rules "There is so much going on every night, not all of it on your level" and this sheer abundance of options makes this more plausible"Don't deal with dragons" was recommended to me, did you read that book? What do you think about it?
>>97364342Ive never actually finished Never Deal with Dragons, although not because I wasn't enjoying it. Got distracted 3/4s of the way through.I've read Into the Shadows, 2xs, Changeling, Striper Assassin, Fade To Black, Wolf and Raven, Shadowplay and Night's Pawn relatively recently (last few years). 2xs, Into the Shadows, Wolf and Raven, and Changeling would be my recs. Changeling especially is fun because it's from a Troll's pov.

>>97364585outside of the Fessability issue, it seems neat would just be a lot of work from the event organiser/GM
>>97365071The game was designed around campaigns. If you're playing one the standard points size for most missions is 750-1000, with a few 500-pointers (basically a cruiser or two and some escorts) and 1500s (full-on fleet). Scenarios are a lot more fun than just pitched fleet battles. They will teach you very quickly about proper squadroning and planning for your ships' momentum. A 1500-point game should last a couple hours, anything above that and there are some weaknesses in the system that start to slow you down.>tipsNo matter what you want to cram into your list, if you're an Imp ALWAYS buy a LD9 Admiral. He's absolutely game-changing. You should also try for an even mix of lances, batteries, torpedoes, etc. You'll want at least 4 launch bays per 1000 points (these give you fighter coverage against enemy torpedo/assault boat spam) and it's considered kind of shitty to bring more than about one Nova Cannon per 500 points. Once you get a feel for the tactics you like, you can start to specialize moreAlso, get some actual Order Dice and like 50 blast markers. Fighter/bomber/Assault boat markers are just 20mm bases with a topper on 'em, torpedo markers you'll need to print off and cut out. The rules have only used the one with three torpedoes on it since 2002. You'll need at least 2 of the Bearing Compass/Nova Cannon Blast Marker. There are both STLs and PDFs of all the counters readily-available>did zero researchDon't stress too much about it, we tend to be a forgiving lot. Check out the Warp Rift/Specialist Arms website. They've got downloadable versions of all the rules, with links to a *very* useful G-drive. If you catch my drift. It's effectively a continuation of the old Specialist Games forums. And if you're in the South Sound, I'm usually up for a game.
>>97364271>feel like it is straightforward from the get goNot as much as you'd think. Learn the assist system, it's fundamental and yet plenty of players refuse to heed it and allow their defensive lines to get unraveled by just some mildly smart positioning. If you get the vidya it can be a good kicking off point, it does a lot of the work for you in the background though so reading the rulebook is very recommended to understand exactly what's going on. I'm in an online league that runs off BB2 myself, that's a ruleset more similar to BB2016 but legendary edition gives you all the teams and goes cheap during sales.
>>97365071>>97365252BFG is quite interesting regarding army size and game duration. You got less units, but you got alot of weapons to fire. And there is a time when a squadron splits and suddenly the movements become units.
>>97365252I just have the 1 mate from my group who has several fleets he built as a teenager in the 00s, so I assume both our fleets will just be a bunch of stuff we thought looked cool lol, afaik he does have all the markers and shit that we'll need from the original game, but I have a neptune 4 if I need more of them.>You'll want at least 4 launch bays per 1000 pointsI do have a cruiser on the way that I was gonna build as a lunar class, is it worth building it as a dictator? I'Il also have some weapon battery light cruisers on order so maybe that will cover my macrocannon/torpedo needs for a bit. >if you're in the South SoundSadly I am not, I am a norf bonglander lol

I'm trying to write a campaign and have a good idea of where I want it to go, but I'm not sure how to get started. In your current game, what was the main threat facing the party in their starting location?
>>97364443>Where does it start? It starts at a point where something creates a pressure that moves the characters to action. If you don't have a point of motivation for them to grab onto, then you don't have a story to have a campaign about.
>>97364993>How'd that end up playing out? It's funny because they figured out that something was up and didn't really trust the "priest" but they still kept doing his work even if they did act erratic at times either to fish for some incriminating response or try to fuck with what they assumed is his plan. Still they did end up doing everything he asked, ultimately retrieving for him a spell safeguarded by the religious order he pretended to belong, and parted ways in more or less friendly terms. He is going to come back as an antagonist again and try to pull the same trick. I want to see if my players learned anything up or if they will keep doing things that suspicious old guys ask them to even if it goes against their current plans.
>>97364443We just escaped slavery and are stranded in the middle of nowhere in the desert. The main threat is the setting itself.
First mystery was a missing city council member who the players are hired to find that, in the middle of their investigation, just reappears and tells them all to leave with a weak explanation for his absence just as they start unravelling the conspiracy behind his disappearance and realize he is an ooze clone created by an Oblex and several of the other NPCs they've been interrogating are too.Served to introduce the PCs to a whole bunch of characters and give them a bunch of connections to tie them into the world and the town and the various other problems going on there and hints of bigger disruptions from the world at large.
>>97365224Kek. I doubt they'd fall for the exact same scheme but you could easily try to pull some "I knew you'd suspect me so I asked you to do the opposite of what I wanted" shenanigans.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.
