Is it better to have fully anthropomorphic beast people in your settings or just humans with like animal ears and tails?

If you're going to get that autistic about realism then you might as well get rid of elves and dwarves too because that's even more improbable for entirely different races from entirely different origins from humans, and that often have rivalries with them to exist while also looking very similar to each other without having wiped the others out or turned them all into one singular race over time.
>>
>>97341888
The former because they're descendants of a furry commune that got a little crazy with genetic engineering. They were just made that way and it doesn't need to be any more than that because the chance of a player interacting with a level beyond that depth approaches zero.

Most scientists believe Homo sapiens didn't necessarily hunt our cousins to extinction; we simply out-competed them for the same resources.

>Social Resilience:

Sapiens lived in larger, more interconnected social networks. This allowed for better trade, sharing of information, and collective survival during lean years.

>Technological Advantage:
We developed more advanced tools (like bows and arrows or sewing needles for better clothing) and potentially had lower caloric needs than the heavily muscled Neanderthals.

>The "Slow Squeeze":
As Sapiens moved into new territories, we took the best hunting grounds and caves. Our cousins were pushed into marginal, harsher environments where their smaller populations eventually dwindled to zero.

Others were jus assimilated. We didn't just replace them; we absorbed them. Genetic testing has proven that early Sapiens bred with Neanderthals (in Europe) and Denisovans (in Asia).

Anyone that posts for MHA know what he's getting into, new or not, you would have to be blind to not see the shitposting since it happens every single thread. And if someone just opens the thread and makes a random build without even knowing how things work I doubt they really care to find out.

Ecstatic because I have my own. Of course, during the Napoleonic wars they were split between the Illyrian Provinces and the Ottos so I would be running them as Second Corps French with Albanian regiment auxiliaries but still, very good.

This type of urban landscape doesn't exist in Western Europe.
You don't see houses scattered like that. They're along the streets, often with shared walls or with fences, hedges, and low walls to separate the properties. It's really missing from your game table.
On top of everything, the roundabout in the center, with that ridiculous little grove, makes no sense. A simple Y junction or + intersection would be more realistic and aesthetically pleasing.
Put your trees along the road or in gardens or orchards.
Look for maps from 'close combat' games for some inspiration.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

There are a lot of examples of knights being implemented into a sci-fi future setting (Warhammer 40k, Battletech, Dune), but are there any examples of medieval societies with modern-esque professional soldiers?

>>
>>97343780
That makes even less sense than it being its own genre. I mean in terms of what words mean; it actually makes huge sense in terms of conning a bunch of suckers to buy something that sounds different in a saturated market, genius even.
>>
>>97339417
>joining the Roman legions ceased to be profitable
Hadrian managed to square this circle (as did Antonius Pious, if I recall correctly) but he was one of the few emperors who wasn't insanely stupid and corrupt, and actually used tax money for public works.
>>
>>97339216
>medieval societies with modern-esque professional soldiers?
You can't really do both. Medieval society is distinct from modern society largely because of the way the state administers violence.
The era you're looking for is Imperial Rome.
>>
>>97339417
>in ancient times soldiers would often be forced to pay for it themselves. In a feudal society, your lord pays
The other way around. In late antiquity, professional standing armies did exist with state issued arms. In feudal (medieval) societies, combatants were generally expected to provide their own equipment and training (except things like munitions and other consumables).

Absolutely not, I see this said here fairly often though? Even last thread we got a guy with uneven coats of paint/primer and anons pointed that out. Shitposting would be saying it looks dogshit without providing any advice on how to actually improve it. I'll try to keep what you're saying in mind next time I get a chance to give feedback though because you brought up valid points.

Dice are dice, sometimes life's a bitch. As long as you don't make the goblins gangrape the party because of that bad roll, I see no reason to not just accept the failure.
>>
>>97341697
I think what you did was fine.
Bad rolls to me usually mean something else happened. Like it wasn't the fighters fault it went poorly.

You could've narrated that the goblins are more afraid of Klarg. Or that they're afraid and show it, but it's not quite enough to open the gate. Or something silly like the goblins can't hear the fighter correctly or actually hated the guys he killed so they're happy about it
>>
>>97343527
That's more or less how I played it. I established Klarg as an asshole to the other goblins right off the bat by having him blindly throw a goblin corpse to the wolves from his balcony (not seeing the players), so there was enough reason for me to have the goblins happy that Klarg was gone. There was a failed set of negotiations (mostly because my Barbarian wanted to start a "business deal" that would have the goblins keep doing their thing in exchange for a cut of the profits) that led to a chase to where the other goblins were, then another failed set of negotations that led to a bloodbath. All in all a pretty entertaining session.
>>
>>97341697
Foregoing the roll is fine if you think it makes sense, but demanding the roll is also a valid choice. It's fine as long as you stick to what you chose without backtracking, sometimes the dice just fuck you because that's the price of playing the random dice game

I went with a more Spartan cooking honestly. Which in ancient times was described as being something non-Spartans considered traumatizingly awful, but Spartans themselves loved. Tasting History recreated one such Spartan stew and described it as bland with a metallic aftertaste if I remember correctly.

The spin of New Mando cooking was to marry the Spartan-style cooking with what Galaxy’s edge considered mando cooking. And frankly it just felt right, I can imagine that with the new pacifist philosophy, traditional tests of courage and strength would be seen as taboo, so a more “socially acceptable” way to prove oneself might just be seeing how spicy of food you can handle before tapping out.
