Thread #02 Lean Winter on the TundraPrevious Thread: >>97090196Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887Rules:>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.>Spoiler any OOC discussion.Happy hunting. Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

>>97253951We have many chapters all over the west & some in Japan too. Doesn't require you to believe we exist. And you act like these monsters we fight are outside of humanity. They aren't. They're no different than a bunch of sadistic body builders or whatever. Are you telling me that any hunter with exceptional skill or mystical power like some in this thread couldn't be just as horrible as the monsters we fight if we chose to? The monsters we fight aren't sent by God to harm us, they're just magical animals or magical humans when you get right down to it. As for the "prison" yeah, our souls are stuck here til we learn. We have the knowledge of Good & Evil. We have a conscious. Now we need to grow to learn use it properly. A shell, an egg, a Cocoon, call it what you will, is a prison too, until the new life inside hatches. God love us, he wants us to grow, just like a parent loves their kid, but we got to learn, & learning hurts
>>97254355You don't teach your kids by locking them up with a psycho and telling them to "figure it out". Learning involves making mistakes, but I've seen too many good people meet an ugly end to buy that any of this shit is for our own good. That's abuser talk. Yeah, kids have to fall down and scrape their knee to realize that maybe they should watch where they're running. That's so many orders of magnitude less severe than what even garden variety monsters get up to. You also need to protect and nurture your children, because if you don't, they'll wind up dead or borderline feral traumatized wrecks incapable of functioning outside of rote survival. There's no nurturing, no protection, he's just locked us in a cage together and is watching us eat ourselves, by your own claim that all monster shit is human in origin.Which I don't buy for a damn second, are you telling me demons are fake? Or that they're actually just humans? What about the fairies from fairyland, not the people they take, the big boys who did the taking? They're also just humans in a clever disguise?Man I didn't even want to get stuck into this theological debate, but your dumb ass comes in with this rote repetition of dogma while insisting all the world's monsters can be fixed with an axe and fire? Shit no hunter I've ever met could say with a straight face one method can kill every monster. You're delusional. You haven't left the shallows if you think the scale of destruction some of these can wreak is in the same ballpark as what we can do.
>>97254355>they're just magical animals or magical humansDemons are very much real and as dangerous, if not more, as the legends say. Each one of these demons, witches and monsters requires a different approach. You have a lot to learn and I hope you live long enough to do so.
>>97254355And who's been telling you this? Have you actually encounter anything that doesn't have an enforced rest period? You haven't been employing more than school yard tactics from what you mentioned. I fear to imagine how easy you would turn on your fellow humans if something whispered in your ear. >>97253981They can entertain other explanations, at least.

>>97253597Yeah well not necessarily true, they did a lot of shitty distribution things with L5R when I was playing it, because basically they have the luxury in the LCG model to get rid of the whole idea of a "set" as in TCGs. There were expansion packs with like 1 useful card buried within a clan's pack nobody would play, so that card alone was already 10-20 bucks and you ended up with stuff you are not interested in. Good luck getting rid of them since nobody was trading/selling singles at all. In the Arkham Horror core set they also had single copy cards before the revised edition arrived. Let's just say that the LCG model sounds too good to be true, so it usually is.

What the fuck is up with Benko players online? I play the Half-Accepted variation where instead of accepting the second pawn you go e3 instead. I have heard that this can be a bit annoying to Benko players - well fucking tough. But it's like they make every move in like 1-3 seconds and end the game usually with 2 minutes on the clock. Is it supposed to be some kind of intimidation? Is it they really hate the e3 variation? Do they just know where they want to put their pieces immediately, even though I win more than Iose against this type of person? Is it that it's a bunch of kids playing the Benko? Like what is going on? I wish I could say I don't let it affect me but it is offputting, this feeling like there's someone on meth at the other end. First few moves obviously is fine, still in opening theory, but this relentless speed and aggressive play also, do they think they will end with 2 minutes on the clock and everyone will applaud at this magnificent player? It's just offputting. Chess is supposed to be a relaxing game. Genuinely curious if anyone knows anything about this. See a little of it in KID also.

What is the correct way to handle female priestess? Historically women weren't part of the clergy, so you don't have a lot of references to drawn from in regards to their attitude.

>>97254576This one seems to be up against the strange problem of the definition of unique rather than being a common DCMS unit. >Halflings to do the farming>Dwarves to do the smithing and mining>Gnomes to do the researching>Elves to do magic>Humans to do the fighting (and thus, the ruling)This seems the obvious perfect order to things. Humans don't want to be the peasant farmers, we want to be the knights and lords, but somebody has to farm, somebody has to smith, etc. Why not have the other races do the menial peasant stuff that they specialize in anyways?

>>97251874So 80-90% of the population is halflings? Because that’s the percentage who are farmers. Makes more sense halflings are a servant class, as they are excellent cooks and gardeners, the hard work of plowing the fields is best left to men. Men can also be the warrior class, as hardy peasant boys are good stock to make soldiers.

>>97250864If the DCs on higher level monsters and how casters fail way too much (most of the time) are things that have been complained about since forever, it's not a question of "luck". Overall the math is designed to rather consistently screw over players and specifically casters.
>>97251022I just don't really enjoy that offensive caster gameplay when fighting higher level enemies is to basically waste a turn and a spell fishing for a 30% chance that your spell will actually do something besides mildly debuff an enemy for 1 turn or do nothing at all if they crit succeed. But this is why our usual GM likes PF2 more than PF1. He likes designing very challenging encounters and the idea of a player caster turning the tide of a difficult fight doesn't sit well with him.
>>97251022The equivalent situation, of a 9th-Level Witch vs. a 12th-Level Spellcaster, would not be that different in 1e. Even worse, as all arcane casters take a -4 penalty to the saving throw against Feeblemind. In a charitable situation, where the boss have no buffs and only 21 DC, vs. a Witch with Heroism and not using an arcane list and a +4 to WIS, still would be about a 65% chance of saving and not becoming a walking onahole (assuming no Spell Resistance)?I don't think you are wrong about the math being slanted towards the GM and this punishes casters. But normally this discussion is about FIGHTING the boss, not being hit by them. Especially someone that is supposed to be hard. If you don't like the game being hard, then ask the GM to tune down the foes numbers, slap the Weak tag and call it a day. Again, that DC32 is the HIGH, not *STANDARD* DC for a Level 12 creature anyway, it would be DC29 if it was moderate. So this is all an atypical scenario that any real math criticism wouldn't help.>>97251150I respect that stance, though I can say that using an Incap spell when you have a distinct advantage like that is still a dick move. Least with no real heads up in the dungeon, that curses and the like that can fuck you over are all ready. It is fair to not like PF2e for catering to that thinking, but you can at least tell him to knock it off, there are better challenges than making the caster permanently retarded.
I don't know if this is a 2e thing or just my group thing but it feels like I'm the only one with working brain cells and can understand tactics. If I have to miss a session, suddenly that session becomes super deadly. If anyone else misses, the session is fine. I do play a lot of martials so losing a frontline can hurt but i also play in groups of 5-6 pcs. So it shouldn't hurt to lose one frontline. We also mainly play APs so it's not like the GM is making deadly encounters. But even still, a lot of the time I am soloing half the encounters while the rest of the party is struggling with the other half. Now i'm wondering if this is a normal sight or is my group just outliers?
>>97255083>We also mainly play APs so it's not like the GM is making deadly encounterslol
