So a question about OD&D attributes. In the book it says something to the effect of "clerics can use 3 to 1 str for their prime requisite" so does this mean they can use a thid of their str to increase wisdom OR swap 3 points of str for one wis. If a wizard did it, then there isn't really an issue with a monster race being just Vikings/Aztecs/Mongols/Celts in monster costumes. If they arose naturally or quasi-naturally, then they're not half human, half animal, they're fundamentally inhuman creatures that have developed human-like characteristics.
