Something that only clicked to me recently when rereading TRO3025: when Archer's entry mentions the cockpit being located below the center torso, the original intent was that the boxy sensor array below the Unseen mech's "chin" would be the cockpit. Seemingly every subsequent redesign of the Archer has missed that, as they all put the cockpit on the tip of the torso rather than hanging below it.
>>97228730Hunchback cockpit is also not where it is supposed to be in new art. The 'head' is supposed to be a heatsink with the cockpit deeper inside the mech.

There's nothing that's going to persuade me to try it again short of 5e, which is going to be written by the same people, and the game has only gotten simpler and less of a wargame overtime. Best hope now is a specialist game that focuses on large scale fighting using AoS models, but TOW kinda takes that spot now so fml.

What should I play / modify if I want to run Dark Souls? Specifically like a super dungeon crawl, old-school on a grid.I want to run something people can drop in and out of, and something where I don't have to think about plot, just focus on mechanics. I thought the Undead from DS was a perfect fit for this - stick with one character who can die over and over. Focus on map design, enemy placement and behaviour, and big set-piece boss encounters.I know there's a few systems out there, by all accounts Dark Souls RPG is dogshit. I don't need anything with RP elements, just something that will feel good on a grid; something with that reactive/dodge+block based combat. I've thought about ways to adapt 5e, 3.5, PF, but not sure how to get that 'speed and spacing' kinda combat.

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.
>>97226123>>97217302(...cont)If you want to play Warhammer 40,000, you play 4th edition core rules with a mix of codices; 4th ones up to and including Tau(after this they changed their design philosophy with an eye on 5th), the latest 3rd edition one for everything else. You have the full range of content from both 3rd and 4th editions to draw on - campaigns, WD rules, Chapter Approved, some of the FW books, the Journal, even some "fan"dexes that were written by GW dudes in their spare time like Huckleberry's Mechanicus list - and none of the NuHammer garbage to deal with - no Primaris, no Primarchs, no Redditcrons, no Ward-era Grey Knight retardation. I started in 2nd but 4th is where 40K peaked as far as I'm concerned, it's the bowl of porridge that's Just Right.
Been kind of working on some custom 8th edition stuff lately since I've been playing it a lot. Custom cards and datasheets if anyone wants to see. Honestly I've had an idea in mind this week to create a sort of "alternate" 8th edition ruleset with some stuff from other editions and redone Primaris.
>>97226129>>97226123You sound like an utterly insufferable cunt. Stfu faggot.
I enjoy playing some Index era 8th casually from time to time, it feels a bit like core book 3rd and as long as you aren't dealing with WAAC tournament grinders (which nobody still playing 8th should be having to deal with) it is a very fun way to play the game as far as Modernhammer editions go. I still mostly play 2nd, a little 3rd and 5th but Index 8th is the newest form of the game to exist in my rotation and I don't see that changing for a long time.
>>97217254>Least delusional Eldar playerI remember 3rd was when the delusional BS started, online all Eldar players were discouraging everyone from playing them as they were for advanced players only when all they did was stick starcannons on everything.Saying 7th taudar was only dominant a short time or that it was only as bad as necrons is pure delusion. 1000pts of taudar can easily table 2000 pts of necrons. It ceases to become fantasy adventure. Keep monsters monstrous, cause you need to have things to kill. If you keep it cinematic and cartoony, you'll have a good time killing monsters. And like, you're done playing fantasy game and now you're into the moral nature of our world and existential stuff. Are they right?
Miyazaki is just mad it doesn't have a paper thin facade over it. He'll have the worlds most detailed tank crushing it's way through a fairy village with incredible animation and he'll look at you and go "wow, isn't this terrible?" while he poorly conceals his erection.A brave twelve year old tomboy that really likes old men will face the camera and tell you that the true message is about brotherhood and maintaining a connection to society and you can still kind of hear him screaming at his employees in the background.

>>97216984Ttrpgs are ultimately just cooperative storytelling with a dice game on top. It's up to every group whether they just wanna play the dice game or add a story to talk about. Obviously this narrative part of the game can be existential and question morale because often enough that is what makes a story memorable or good to begin with. Each group can decide upon that themselves, I don't think we need a basedboy redditor to tell us.
>>97228032Read the post again, dipshit.
TTRPGs are a social game first and foremost. That means there's unspoken rules that vary from group-to-group, but a common one is "acceptable breaks from sensibility" in the name of game experience or table cohesion. It's the kind of thing that keeps the bitter rivalry between the Elf and the Dwarf largely to amusing banter and not outright PvP. It's an innate instinct: nobody likes to spoil the atmosphere, because that's a large part of the appeal of a good game (alongside the freedom). That being said, there are also times when the group's course of action is patently retarded and you can't meaningfully push back on it without feeling like you'd cause a big fight over nothing (and then feel obligated to keep comrades away from the consequences), or something a character cannot abide has to be "sanded over" somewhat, or you as the GM don't want to cultivate the feeling that you're antagonizing your players by hitting them over the head with "you murdered someone because it was convenient and didn't even take measures to cover your tracks" or whatever unhinged misadventure occurred because something about the player position of the table cause human beings to lose IQ. Have you ever had that feeling? I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common.
90% of poor player decisions come down to>I'm fucking bored I want something to happen already
Depends on what you consider 'catering to'.I let my players do whatever they want and they have to deal with consequences. Modern DMs seem terrified of giving players consequences and I think this is borne from many different factors that are all worth their own discussions. But it's kind of like a kid or a dog being taught and trained. Your players don't do things that hurt them, like touching a hot stove or torching a shop, and they do do things that reward them.Don't reward disruptive play and punish bad behavior. Simple as.

>>97227594I also refuse to watch Wicked. Especially now that it looks like the director induced eating disorders in half the cast and the malnutrition has gone straight to their heads in weird culty ways.
>>97227594I played one game of it using proxy bases, it's pretty fun. I don't really have much to compare it to though, I don't play many rank and flank games. A typical game uses brigades made of four or five regiments with each regiment being made up of five "stands" which the majority of units represent with 2"x2" bases (artillery puts all five on one 4"x4"). Each brigade has an overall commander and initiative is handled with both dice and cards. Each regiment rolls a d6 at the start and then when it's time to activate units, you draw a card from 1-6. But brigade commanders can collect up all the dice from units near them and hand them back out as the numbers come up, so there's more control closer to your commander.

I had a horrifying idea of taking MTG shit and putting it in dnd in some way, how probable is this?
>>97228724Pretty common thing, yeah
>>97228724old mtg stuff grafts pretty perfectly to oldschool dnd one ruling that i remember is treating the manacost of cards as their level/hd x2, so a 6 mana cost creature would be a 12 hd monster for example, and then you can make micro adjustments of course.I am sure a conversion to 3.5 is possible as well even if it doesnt fit so well. Thematically it's obviously doable with most archetypes featuring race/class or both. I guess one could make planar setting splat with homebrew races and classes depending on the cards of the set without any thematic difficulty.I guess balance can be whatever. you can simply graft cards into existing monsters for some down and dirty conversions .I generally think that the idea has legs. Which plane of magic were you thinking about converting?
>>97228724I'm pretty sure everyone who both plays mtg and d&d has had that idea at some point, they lend into each other pretty well. Which is probably why they did it for real in 5e with...varying results.
