It's an absolute garbage mech that can lose against a moderately skilled martial artist, but all my buffs push it to a pretty nice levelThen I hit up Zoids for Metalmending to fix up my Hardballer where I ended up becoming a Zoid VeterinarianComment too long. I want to skim an 'army book' of a game Im familiar with and immediately pick up on which faction it is because they're all distinct in fun and meaningful ways. The worst games are ones where you cover names and show me stat lines and abilities and I have no clueApart from the rampart series and similar where it's designed to let you make yourdudes yourway with what you might have on hand of course
can anyone recommend some tanks for the human defense force in one page rules? i like the progression from infantry to walkers but i feel like the tanks don't fit
Anyone have the fan rules for Dimensional Warfare: Tactics? It's the Robotech RPG Tactics spinoff game. I want to see how they rewrote the transformation rules. >>97358231They should not have gotten rid of the old site. They had painted examples that weren't transferred over. They used submitted images of painted models they didn't have a 'studio paintjob' for. The forum was ancient, but it had examples of nearly every model they made, and it's all gone now. And they lost their detailed tags.
>>97359404Thats a decent idea, i think heresy has a system like that, a core force org, then your added leaders or warlord add extra flexibility to army construction. Could be a good way to add some variance. I've always wanted a bike character to unlock more slots for bikes. Still doesn't help me with the immediate issue of balancing wargear, model, and unit costs, but I'll highly consider adding that in.>>97359022I've never actually looked into Battletech's tonnage system, but I'd assume it's similar to a points cost where the size of your mech is X tons, and each big gun you strap on to them is Y tons, up to a Z limit or something like that.>>97359718I've got 9 factions with 10 units plus 1 named character for each as a start. Each faction has 3 Leaders, 2 Troops, 2 Vanguard, 2 Mobile, and 2 Support units, and I've attempted to make sure that each faction from the start can at least do everything everyone else can. Some Factions are much better at certain game aspects than others are; The super shooty army isn't the best in melee, but has units that can still hold their own. I tried to make sure that each faction leans into their own theme, but multiple playstyles can emerge from each faction based on what you like to play. With leaders possibly offering different force org combinations, that opens up even more potential for army variance, but I still need a points system. I might just have to bite the bullet and figure out some arbitrary way to give costs to things. That'll bump up playtesting time a whole lot longer, for sure. In my playtest games, I've had both players start with an equal number of bases for each side, and it's worked out decently well for a "half-sized" game, the armies are mostly equivalent in power at that size of game, but I don't think it'll fly for a hyper-elite army or horde army playstyle. If both players get 50 "bases" worth of models, the custodes player will overrun the genestealer cults player every time.

>>97359435I agree with the other poster, what a daft thought exercise. Probably the worst thing I could think of already happened anyway with Lion pardoning The Fallen, removing anything interesting they and the DA had going. I haven't kept up with nu-lore mostly due to this stupidity, but what drives the Angels now? Are they still all secretive and still race away from engagements, or what's their shtick now?
>>97359530They're still searching for Fallen, but Lion does the initial investigation. If he decides they were cool, they become a Risen. >>97355569Fuckin forgot to post before I went to bed. Sorry for leaving you hanging. My personal experience boils down to a single utter shitshow of a game which didn't even last a session, because the GM quite literally opened with "Okay so you're all on a spaceship and you want to go do some heresy, there's three planets nearby, a forgeworld, an agriworld, and a hiveworld, pick one and then go kill some people." The situation devolved from there. Note the distinct lack of "who are your guys and what are their motives, why are you all working together, what's your objective" in there. An hour in and nobody's mentioned my name once, the GM clearly doesn't care to go into enough detail to make tech-use applicable, so I mentally check out, lower the volume to something less distracting, and go finish a video lecture. Get up for a bathroom break, come back, the server's fucking gone. I ask my buddy, another player, what the fuck happened, and he just says "Sometimes you gotta rip it out root and stem, man."Now that's just a shit GM being a shit GM, but it's representative of a subset of people who are only there to do lolrandom dumbfuckery. Black Crusade attracts those like flies, because they see "this game is about being horrible evil chaos bastards" and they think "oh, finally, a game for me!" They don't want to engage with the game as it's meant to be played, they want to use it as an excuse to act in ways that are unacceptable at a table, and they think the subject matter gives them that excuse. Y'know, like FATAL.This is not exclusive to the lolrandoms, either, but I'm fresh out of brain juice so I'm just gonna tell you to imagine That Guy, think about what makes him That Guy, and think about whether he thinks he could use Black Crusade as an excuse for being That Guy. I'm telling you, man, it's like flies. And it's fucking shameful, because the careful political aspects of balancing a chaos warband are actually a compelling premise.

>>97360251may I get a rating>>97358809
>>97358809As I said the other Army list, Sniper Priest with a Machine Gun is utterly superior in every way. It may not allow you to pin an enemy down across the map but with your current build you have enough models to hold them in place. Getting another Machinegun in the list or- rather your first one will make a pretty big difference. >Grenades I don't know who the fuck hurt you but not every single model needs a grenade, you will be lucky if you throw two in a game. Three max if your enemy is really unlucky or just not playing well. Try to remove some of them, see how much Ducats you have left to try and invest into more Yeoman. You have a musician. That's great, don't know what that Frag Grenade is gonna do for them in combat. Give them a pistol or something. You don't want a sitting duck. Other than that the list seems solid. Just ensure your LT isn't too battle-damaged from engagements or you might need to retire them.
>>97360303>I don't know who the fuck hurt you but not every single model needs a grenade, you will be lucky if you throw two in a game. Three max if your enemy is really unlucky or just not playing well.Prussians. Given they arent consumable (cept the charge) its arguably better to use and makes for an effective bleed/assault

I'm working on a journey system with a few specific goals. One of which is to hone down on events that can happen to parties during a journey which - ideally - present the players with interesting problems to solve.Working document is here if you'd like to peruse: https://files.catbox.moe/7hfxya.pdf I'm curious if any experienced GMs have ideas on interesting journey complications (both positive and negative) that- ideally- might allow for opportunities for players to problem solve?Picrel is the list I've got right now (very basic)
>>97360406So what’s your process here? Do you prepare this content in advance or on the fly? Let’s explore the homeless example. I’m guessing you don’t railroad the players into being at a specific gas station, so you improvise this homeless guy on the fly right? He makes sense in the context of the environment. I’m just curious how much of this you prepare in advance.>>97360438Yeah, I guess I have the same question.>>97360442I think he’s saying the way that the content exists in the world (improvised; randomly generated, pre planned, or some combination) looks functionally identical to the player at the table as long as it makes sense in the context of the environment, right?
>>97360485It doesn't matter how it looks to the players. Total perfect simulation is the correct method, and no other shall be permitted.
>>97360489That’s the dream. So are you creating and simulating every aspect of your world prior to introducing your players to it? Do you improvise most of it?
>>97360172I'm not able to post the full thing and would probably be embarrassed to do so. I think having a set idea of the roster would be great. That's my bias, though.Basic idea of the system is it takes about an hour to walk 3 miles so that's used as the baseline. Meadows, fields, etc. Distance is halved or even brought down to 1/3rd depending on how difficult the terrain is. Phrased differently, difficult terrain may have 1 environmental hazard every x hours. The more that they run into, the less likely there will be another, the longer without the more likely there will be one. Represented by starting on a d10 and ratcheting lower down to a d4 for more likely or going up to a d20 for less likely. Like yours, it was on a 1. Simple stat rolls to overcome an obstacle. Failing just meant they were more tired.Similarly, enemy density is rolled by expected resistance. Whether that is every mile or every 3 is dependent on the territory. From what I remember, there were different bands of territory with heavy presence and longer stretches with no one (1d4 vs 1d20 rolls), but the danger came from exhaustion.Every fight or obstacle would cost 1 exhaustion, which every 5 HP the PC has, they gain 1 additional exhaustion. When they run out of exhaustion, they lose -1 to stat rolls until a long rest in a safe place. YMMV. Enemies were less important than simple stat rolls that would cause exhaustion loss if failed, but it also meant the 'fighter' types actually had a built-in mechanical advantage to endurance. Having to choose between the potential for many combat encounters along a contested road with the guarantee of a friendly camp or taking the long way and showing up weaker for a fight was a fun debate to watch. I think it added to the game.
>>97360489Except that higher powers put the hobo there on random chance rather than the hobo having any agency because he's not a real person but actually an obstacle.

For example last session my cleric said he would use radiance of the dawn either when all the enemies were within range or at initiative 1. Can you add triggers? >>97360228That's a DM call. Should an elven wizard be more powerful on average than a human one? Explain your answer.
>>97360182Yes? What about them?
>>97356728I thought that was generally understood. Most systems and book series go through various answers but normally elves make better wizards overall. Either the elves have an extra century or two to learn and master their craft, or they are some inherently magical species that is just plain better by birth. It's all the same in the end. Humanity's strength is always in numbers. They are not the best at anything but they are more populous. They are the smart horde species while orcs, goblins and everything else that wins wars through wave tactics are complete savages. Humans are the mostly intelligent wave tactic savages that can be kind of not shit at things.

Have we done anything with John Browning yet? I've been discussing gun designs with a friend, and the subject of Browning came up with him getting started in this exact period. Of course, most of his more famous designs, the 1911, Hi-Power, .50 M2, etc. are from later, but he was still designing and making several firearms before the turn of the century. And we've nudged the development period of certain designs before, with the Maxim I believe.I'm just divided on whether to keep him pretty normal with a blank cheque from the government post-Paraguay, or work in something Hyperborean. He'd basically be a saint up there with everything he's made/going to make. Alternately, I thought about somebody finding a 1911 or something on the battlefields of Paraguay and it makes its way into his hands (2000 Psychic Wars!)
>>97360094We haven't done enough with the Paraguayan War in general. The Second Oriental Crisis got a massive point by point description, and the Fall of Paris and the survival of the city also has a ton of lore. Compared to them, Paraguay has very little.

>gameplayFor Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.>fantasy settingsThey're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions. >loadouts for fantasyIf you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.
