Is it a good advice for game masters who want to run campaign in the "exotic" place instead of generic "coast of swords" clone?
>>97273634>"maybe don't go full nazi on blacks?"The irony here is that the Mwangi Expanse is the only place where you will find an honest-to-god Hitler in the game. It's the God-Child, Waika or whatever, who is worshiped as a Sun God and ardently states that, "all whities need to get dashed into the ocean and incinerated."It's very telling how Paizo was perfectly comfortable doing a BLM Revolution in Sargava completely off-screen and without any sort of follow-up besides "everyone's happy and hopeful for the future now," and Black Hitler was not only allowed to continue to exist, but presented as like, this awesome threat with no clear answer.
>>97273713You're trying to twist good advice into something that you can be mad at, anon. You're a martyr in search of persecution. When asked what you're rebelling against, you respond "what have you got?" It's pathetic and you shoulda grown out of it at 15.
>>97273686"Characters should not be surprised by their own daily lives even if they seem surprising to the players" is not at all conveyed by that text. Writing General: 'festive' editionWelcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product. As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time. There's a discord for writers herehttps://discord.gg/6AwKHGFThe previous thread can still be found in the archive here>>96644454And finally an archive of /tg/ fiction can be found here:http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (dead link, but may be resurrected one day)https://2d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (page missing, wiki still up)Comment too long. Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128>Need a starter dungeon? >>97273084Welcome back!>How do you guys track all the player run businesses and NPCs they enconter over the course of the campaign in a convenient and efficient way?Pen and paper? Not sure what you mean here.>Special retard question: would you allow your players to have them or their retainers use their round to "forcefeed" another player a health potion? If the feedee is unconscious, yes. If he is up and fighting, lol no.>And in a more serious way: how do you let players control/influence the actions of their retainers? With loyalty checks. I've recently discovered the tables for obeying orders from WRG and they're based, I might start using them some day. Basically roll high = charge in, roll low = run away, and roll average = obey orders. Picrel.
>>97273084Use ACKS for market checking/turn over. Also, you control henchmen, they are NPCs
>>97273161Thanks, very cool table indeed! >Pen and paper? Not sure what you mean here.Yeah you're completely right. In my 5e campaigns before (which I kept quite sandboxy) I've used RPG notes for android to track events, NPCs etc. Now running my first bx campaign I just do my daily tracking and strict timekeeping but simply losing the overview of all the NPCs involved and having to flip through all my notes when they pursue some of the NPCs for example. The business part is done separately and updated with the players during downtime. I just wondered what handy ways you guys use but I guess I should keep it simple and have some written NPC records at hand.>>97273527Yeah you're absolutely correct, as well.I was probably too soft after our long break. It was quite ironic though, my ironman player who's been there every session and leads with a level 6 character still is shit scared after their last dungeon fiasco in the ancient red dragon lair found himself and the small group of few players and retainers but no mercs ambushed by a red dragon in the wilderness. The tank was heroically facing the monster while the ironman send his retainer to chug the dwarf down some health potions. I felt it wasn't right but I also didn't want to bumfuck them that hard after our long break...
>>97273084I like those small A6 papers you buy in bulk, library notes? They have a name but I'm blanking on it.I find them practical to move around, spread, give to a player, and so on. But my memory depends heavily on taking writen notes.
>>97273841That's a cool idea, could keep the info for the players that way, as well lol>>97273527P.S. thanks for the ACKS recommendation, can you specify what books/chapters to consult for that?

why do retards think that having power automatically makes you unhappy? and why do they think being weak will give them a fulfilling or happy life?
>>97273773oh, forgot pic
>>97273773the problem is they seem to think if they have the power or the protagonistship or whatever that theyll automatically be happy and wont have to do anything else, when its actually fairly common for a protagonist to be fuckin miserable for various reasons, and also that the more power you have the more lonely you can end up feeling and whatnot, theres a reason theres so many stories of powerful people pretending to be ordinary people to get a life that makes them happy, is power nice, yes yes it is, can it make your life easier, yes, can it help you to achieve what you want to achieve, yes it can, does power alone make you instantly happy, not really no, unless youre a psychopath or smth who derives pleasure from enslaving and raping people or just generally having power over the lives and wellbeing of others

>>97270832I'm still waiting for you to answer the question, how is one role that takes maybe 30 seconds to resolve, somehow a negative aspect for you?
>>97272671NTA, but it doesn't quite take 30 seconds to resolve, since a chart like that requires it to be looked up because it's so poorly constructed and organized, and then the "unique" (minor variations of the same few) affliction has to be written down and any contradictions (such as from previous afflictions) have to be resolved/ignored/figured out, and all for something as incredibly unwanted as a permanent debilitation that predominantly takes the form of an aesthetic modification and an annoying mechanical nuisance. You probably have not played enough games with real people to know that things like Crit Charts/Scar Tables/Permanent Wounds/etc. fall into that wonderful category of "Things a bad GM might like but most players hate", but even assuming the entire group actually enjoyed those sort of things, this particular execution is pretty awful because the majority of the rolls are poorly written/conceived dud results.I understand you're pretty much a hopeless retard and you won't be able to understand anything I've explained to you, but that's kind of why you're stuck trying to promote a game only a hopeless retard would ever think is good.
>>97273237You're wrong. It takes thirty seconds or less. >Character goes down>While waiting to be assessed you tally your bonus, as others take their turns>On your assessor's turn you roll 1d20+x and 1d6 How is this a hurdle for you?
>>97273237>You probably have not played enough games with real people to know that things like Crit Charts/Scar Tables/Permanent Wounds/etc. fall into that wonderful category of "Things a bad GM might like but most players hate">Character goes down>Character is dead beyond hopeor >Character goes down>Might have a chance of continuing adventuring with an acceptable wound, or even noneYeah, I'd much rather just outright die at 0hp, you're right :)

How many level 3+ monsters do y'all actually hunt? I'm realizing this is the first time I've ever actually hunted a level 3 screaming antelope, and I can't thinking of any others I actually hunted other than sunstalker, dragon king, and DBK.
>>97272594I usually exclusively start hunting lv.3s at around LY 15+Until then I baby mode and hunt lvl 1s. I usually find hunting Lv 2s to not be worth the risk/reward
>>97272155Not an answer people here might like but try the facebook group or the unofficial discord.
>>97269313Our group loves to mix and match their own survivors to paint with the entirity of core, gce, and almost all the expansion survivor bits. We always start with the founding survivor minis and then move to our 'actual' survivors once we gear up a bit (currently all using 10 uear survivors, but i got the 15 year box im waiting to give out as Xmas gifts our next game). Though if I do black knight, I should probably do the squiers. Speaking of: is the 5 year campaign as difficult as they say? I kind of want to do all the knights for lore purposes but ny group is still pretty new to the game (only a couple core campaigns with expansions sprinkled in).
>>97272992How do you know you're ready? I usually replace hunting level 1s with twos once I have dash and surge, and have at least one survivor with 5 armor all around and a shield, but I don't know the right metric for the level 3s other than "ran out of stuff to make"

I’m working on a horror scenario, care to help out with suggestions? The Premise: the player characters are all "test subjects" (probably former military, ex-cops, criminals, lone drifters and such) that were kidnapped or otherwise imprisoned by a sinister conspiracy of unknown nature or goals. They participate in "experiments" to "stress test" the conspiracy's "projects." Present day real world setting, on the surface.Any ideas for monsters, unnatural tech, twists, set pieces, testing grounds and scares?

>>97270329The experiments are to test the limits of how much the "reality" of the world can be fucked with before people notice too hard.It starts as a slow creep before the overt stuff happens and everything is thematic to the situation.butt fuck nowhere USA with perfect white bread american ideal townsfolk? They are all secretly monsters pretending and the uncanny valley ramps up until they mask off.Random inner city USA? The faceless masses of people will randomly become monsters that hunt you down but non one else notices what's going on or your own presence even as they are attacked in the process.Typical desert village except you have to hide from some super giant monster that randomly spits out smaller monsters.Basically, boxed in experiences where the situation decays and forces the PCs to survive as long as possible fore they move on to the next box.
