I often suffer from the same issue with Dark Heresy in that people seem to play it as a dungeon crawler and everyone gets over geared rapidly. Current campaign is in hiatus but we're mid career and it's only the second "mission". People walking around with bolters and carapace - again, no one is checking weight/ammo/reloads etc. I bring up playing Wrath instead but everyone just says it's a shit system but they've never played.

I don't check weight too much, I always felt it was superfluous. However, I do usually use basically loadouts (usually 2 weapons and maybe a sidearm/melee weapon), and tell peeps that if their loadout seems unreasonably heavy then they probably won't fit it on their body. I do tell peeps to carefully check their ammo and reloads, though. OSP is very important, and the teams have to figure out weapon and ammo transportation, such as spending time outfitting a vehicle with ammo racks, purchasing ammo drops, or that one time they bought a porter slave.

It's inconsistent, and is barely worth more than a buzzword in a conversation.

IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

Ok, gonna try to get it done for this evening, here's the New Alamo Outlaw. Very cheap, low Discipline, that will likely require you to use Ambush mechanics or loading up on Alcohol to get them to push through the mid and late game.
Thinking there could be some campaign mechanics (maybe a Criminal sponsor?) where that roll may turn into a promotion mechanic.
Any feedback on switching the Gunslinger to a Specialist profile?

Stage Coach. Lots of rules, but I think it should be simple enough once it hit the table. Shelter rules are for the Frontier Settler, if you load on them then all you have to do is give your passenger Warm Meals and you'll recoup a part of your cost. Not enough to turn it into a legitimate econ engine, but a start.
RAW there's nothing to prevent you from using the Stage Coach's Embarked models for the various Ambushes, so there's a bit of gimmick there to pull as well.
(Fml new kitten likes to tapdance on my keyboard I had to rewrite this twice already... )

It's actually pretty simple to do if you want - mech provides and upper limit on how many actions, speed, dodge and so on you can pull out. Pilot provides the skills. And the result of pilot getting into the mech is worst of the two stats.

Let's say we have mech:
4 arms with weapons
5 speed

Pilot:
Weapons 1
Piloting 2

As a result you get a mech with 4 weapons only one of which could be used per turn and mech can move up to 5 but turn only 2 times during the turn due to pilot's limited skills not being able to keep up with mech speed.
Add that Weapons(plus weapon special rules) and Piloting(or speed if lower) determine chances to hit and dodge.

This is very much true. The rulebook itself is needlessly bloated and written in a cumbersome manner, but the core system itself really is simple when it comes down to it.
The real tricky part is keeping track of various 'side' rules that are hidden away in various paragraphs.

Though I played it with some simplification to the damage system as well, since the default one is pants-on-head retarded.

How would you implement undead PCs in a game, in a way that feels flavorful and meaningfully different from regular PCs?

There are campaigns for players to all be dragons. I daresay it's uncreative to say that giving your PCs a weird powerset closes more doors than it opens.
What about giving quests where other adventurers would be fucked but the undead PCs have an edge? Maybe an area with a shit ton of Gazers or something that would be a high-level challenge for normal players but is low-level to your undeads, and that is what makes them special and puts them in the right place at the right time for other events?

Replace their race's strongest trait with the following:
"Undead Fortitude: When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 Hit Point instead. Once you use this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a Long Rest."
If you want to do more, you can give them disadvantage on Persuation checks and advantage on intimidation checks.
If you want it more realistic and the group is fine with it, have all npcs want to kill the character on sight unless he's disguising his undead status.

Sigil & Shadow has rules for ghost PCs.
They can temporarily manifest themselves in a physical realm with magic and utilize cracks in reality for longer crossovers with limitation that they can only linger until the next sunset or sunrise before needing to go back to ghost realm the same way they came, and spells they cast affect the physical realm even if they are not manifesting themselves. They are wearing gear and carrying equipment they had on death, and there are some special rules on how ephemeral variations of items function. One of the perks of being a ghost is that they can never lose any items, even if they are ripped from them supernaturally they just reappear on them later. A lot of supernatural enemies exist simultaneously in the physical world and the ghost world and they also face malevolent spirits there, so they are by no means safe in "invisible" ghost forms.

Haven't used them much, they were a more frequent meme monster in the earl 2020s. They're sort of creepy looking if you've never been outside and don't have any specifically innate power or horror to them so there's not much to work with other than making them quiet weirdos.

One of our games has them as an antagonist of sorts.
Since the setting has fate spiders wielding threads of fate, there's an opposing (dragon)moth entities that eat the threads of fate. Very much a Creation vs Destruction theming.
Them being an enemy of creation hasn't stopped the party from managing to snag one as a companion, because of course (to the frustration of the fate spider character, but not their player).
Also easy enough to do a Law vs Chaos aspect, and have them represent breaking free from the shackles of fate, or a hero burning brightly before being consumed.
