the only themes that don't really fit perfectly in any of the existing faction would be butchery magic and ice age monsters, but even then they would slot pretty easily with the less overly chaotic side of the northern marauders with but a few small changes, who would also enjoy sabertooths and mammoths

>Generally only useful at lower levels. As an example we have two Orcs standing side by side (not more than 5 feet) to each other. We call them Orci and Morci

> You take an action (This action casting a spell; a cantrip called "Green-Flame Blade")

>As part of this action "Green-Flame Blade" you make a (only one) melee attack ("Roll d20 + attack bonus+ Whateveryouhave) against a foe in your range of the spell (5 feet), I suggest that you want to hit Orci

>OPTION A:

>You hit Orci (make damage, +whatever your attack makes)
> The magic green fire of the mighty green blade enlightens the poor Orci with incredible hurting flames - flames from hell - and jumps (without hurting Orci) to Morci
> Morci gets damage in height of your spellcasting modifier (6.) At higher Levels you would roll a +dX additionally

the exceptions are "be a class that doesn't get extra attacks and doesn't have something better to spend their actions on"
like arcane trickster or something
>>
>>97234460
Makes sense.
I guess a war domain Cleric that's intent on larping as an actual melee fighter might also make some use of it.
What about Eldritch Knight Fighters and Bladesinger Wizards?
I think I remember the last time I played 5e we had a Bladesinger that made good use out of it, but it's been years.
>>
>>97234469
EK is usually better off just attacking, while war cleric and bladesinger will eventually reach the point every caster does where they have so many slots they never really need to use cantrips

It printed fine for me when I had one, and the software side has gotten so good that they should print now better than they ever did.
But they have a rather rough 50 micron screen, so anti alias is probably a must and so it will not reach quite the details that most newer machines can get easily.

Thing is, I do not know if that one supported wait time before printing or if you had to use a workaround. Waiting for the plate to settle against the pressure of the resin is something that only became widely used after some generations and helps loads with printing.
>>
>>97234221
Yes. Elegoo is one of the better brands and the Mars is a fine (if small) machine. Please tell me you didn’t buy second hand though- if so you will likely need to swap in a fresh FEP and/or screen and that will like;y set you back most as much as a new printer, if you don’t own them already.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

Look preference is based on the game and the premise. No point in doing Furry mutants in a Mad Max-themed game, and no point doing tumormen in a TMNT game. If you're going to come here, you need to know the barest details of what playing a TTRPG is actually like.

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas.
Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

>social advancement in medieval society was rare as fuck, and often actively countered by nobility. Fighting your way into position is how most noble bloodlines get started.
Check out the story of William Marshal for a counter example.
Also consider if maybe one or all of the PC's have noble blood, but little or no holdings. Perhaps their holdings were conquered in a war before their birth. Or they are the seventh son of a seventh son type deal. Or a cataclysmic event dropped the entire place into a shallow sea. Whatever, but the noble blood is key to have any type of legit chance. Meritocracy existed, but being nobled somehow is key even to that. Fight well, get knighted and work from there.
>Define ranks and standings.
What is a baron. What is a king. What is a count. Note that many titles are different words for the same concept. How much of the land does the King actually own. Are there other owners? How do they relate to the king? Is power centralised or diffuse? Do people vote for the king or emperor? Holy Roman empire was a clusterfuck. Medieval England was pretty structured. As examples. Clusterfucks allow more social mobility.
>Are there religious authorities, and do they own lands?
Bishops often found themselves heads of powerful armies and owning tons of land. Sometimes they could be both bishop and lord. Consider how religion plays into the social advancement, and if perhaps a cousin might be elevated to bishop to control important resources to pressure another noble.
>A court is essential.
Consider the majordomo, consider knights, consider unlanded noble family members who need jobs. Consider the women who do a lot of behind the scenes work, tutors to children who may be more scientific or more religiously inclined, merchants whose money is coveted, giving them both power and a need for protection.
>Consider the state of the world.
Is the land safe, or do knights from the previous war roam the land as bandits?
>>
badically, you gotta decide what century you are in. late 16th century you got minor nobles marrying into merchant families cus they are shit broke. 12-13th century nobles are still pretty much all gigachad knights full of piss, vinegar and pride.
>>
>>97234289
One other point I really need to make is that most knights owned a horse, some minor armor and a few weapons. Little more. Most didn't own any land, but had some small allotment assigned to their use by their lord. Think of a homestead with extended family hanging about. Having a full on village is already a big fucking deal.

Also, cities might be free places. Check out the concept of free cities especially in the holy roman empire. The hanseatic league ties into this as well. Guilds have power. Cities have power. Money buys weapons, men and fortifications. Even for non-nobles. Marrying wealthy merchants or powerful guild leadership wouldn't be out of the question for noble houses, thus nobling the merchant and adding wealth to otherwise faltering noble houses.

This is a highly niche question, but: what's the best TTRPG anthology you've ever read, and what made it good in your opinion?
21 replies and 1 image omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>97233886
If it's an anthology of roleplaying games, then it obviously does.
>>
>>97231825
I haven't heard of any of these
>>
>>97231920
>>97234419
It was old White Wolf's science fiction/superheroes branch of games in the late 90's, which never got quite as popular as World of Darkness or Exalted (despite using the same system). It produced a couple dozen supplements, which would be impressive by today's standards, but it couldn't hold a candle to e.g. Vampire.

The gimmick was that all three games take place on different points of the same epic timeline, with one huge metaplot connecting all of them, whilst simultaneously they each had a very distinct genre and atmosphere. It wasn't literally an anthology (they weren't sold together at the time), but conceptually they were something like that.

Adventure was 1920's pulps, you'd play adventurers, inventors and crimefighters fighting criminal masterminds across the globe. The metaplot begins here thanks to time travel shenanigans (but players wouldn't find out about this for years to come). Pulp adventurers are effectively "proto-superheroes", but their powers tend to manifest as supernatural luck or skill over more overt powers.

Aberrant was the modern day/near future supers setting. In the near future people start developing superpowers and becoming comic book style superheroes. Somewhat uniquely for the time (remember this was before Watchman or The Boys were mainstream), there was a lot of focus on the "realistic" implications of superheroes in the world (e.g. technology rapidly advancing thanks to superintelligent inventors, superheroes becoming dictators or celebrities, starting churches that worship them, etc.) with the metaplot involving superheroes growing in power but also madness and monstrosity, eventually becoming "aberrants" who try to take over the world. They end up leaving Earth for the depths of space when China threatens to nuke the world into a radioactive desert and leave them to rule over the ashes.

(cont.)
>>
>>97234437

Aeon was a space opera game taking place int he 22nd century in a world shaped by the Aberrant War of the early 21st century. No more superheroes are created but humanity (secretly with alien guidance) has developed the ability to give people psychic powers. Psions are now the vanguard of humanity's expansion into the cosmos, dealing with alien civilizations, the return of the aberrants, and various conspiracies. The metaplot ends and begins here with big revelations about why superpowers exist and so on.
>>
>>97234442
Somewhat setting it apart from other space opera was the prominence of psychic powers in the setting. Psions are central to a lot of key industries and affairs, a lot of technology only works for or thanks to psions, and it turns out that virtually every species in the cosmos has psychic powers of some sort deeply ingrained into their evolution and society (the fact that humans originally didn't have them, but instead manifested superpowers, is a major plot point - turns out humanity threatened the psychic aliens out there with their orders-of-magnitude more incredible powers, so they manipulated human history to guide them towards artificially giving them psychic abilities while simultaneously blocking their ability to manifest superpowers again).

Who wants to sink money, free time, and thought into something that's just the same boring life they sleepwalk through to get to their leisure time, except with slightly fantastic people making the lattes? anyone in the mood of generating, if you are up for it, "Thalassymphai* (Θαλασσύμφαι)" one image or one where its calm and the other when angered;

"A strange and otherworldly being from the aqueous realms of the Upper Planes. From the waist up, it possesses a humanoid torso, arms, and head, but this is a facade of unsettling grace. Its skin shimmers with impossible, shifting aquatic hues—iridescent blues that melt into abyssal violet, greens that flash with metallic gold, and faint bioluminescent patterns that drift across its form independent of the light. Long, fluid hair flows around its head as if perpetually submerged, often braided with pearls and planar sea-glass.

Its lower body is a flowing mass of six powerful, octopus-like tentacles, their undersides lined with subtle suckers. In moments of peace or curiosity, its eyes hold the shifting, fathomless colors of a deep ocean. Its hands are webbed, with fingers that seem almost delicate.

But this placid state is a mask. When threatened or angered, a frightening transformation occurs: its eyes pool into voids of solid black, its fingers split to reveal sharp, retractable claws of horn-like material, and its mouth distends to uncover a hard, parrot-like beak capable of shearing metal. This shift reveals the creature's true, alien nature—beautiful not in a conventional sense, but in the way a deep-sea anglerfish or a gossamer jellyfish is beautiful: fascinating, elegant, and utterly, primally horrifying in its complete otherness.

It is a creature of dual impressions: from a distance, a mesmerizing figure of planar myth; up close, an unsettling amalgam that whispers of the silent, predatory vastness of the deep."
